New York isn't the only place to play VF this year - due to the devotion of the Toronto Virtua Fighter scene, VF5FS has been added to Canada Cup 2015's lineup of official games for the first time in the tournament series' history! Early bird registration is live right now, so if you register within the next 21 days you'll be entering the tournament at a discounted rate.
Hard to believe, isn't it? Somewhere in the hubbub of E3 megatons this year flew by for me. It feels like just yesterday I was sharing that first trailer - but that was like, 5 months ago. And now, we are mere weeks away from NYGX - and it's looking like it's going to be the biggest Virtua Fighter event outside of Japan this year. While you may scoff and think "some accomplishment that is", bear in mind that this year we've seen Virtua Fighter flourish in Canada, having landed tournaments and stream time at CECC2, Toryuken 4, and later this year, Canada Cup.
So, with all that in mind, I'm proud to say that NYGX will be bigger and better for VF than any of those. We've got confirmed guests flying in from all over the continental US including longtime vets like @adamYUKI , as well as community beacon @BLACKSTAR coming in from Georgia - and that flourishing Canadian scene? Yeah, they'll be at NYGX too! Long-time VFDC emperor @Myke is coming in from The Land Down Under after devastating Toronto with his Kage (I spoke to them after to confirm their devastation). Much of this is owed to the dedication and hard work of @cruzlink2 without whom NYGX would not exist.
If you can, join us next month while we celebrate the 10th NYG with a truly special event. Virtua Fighter Remix, Virtua Fighter Kids, Virtua Fighter 3, Virtua Fighter 4 Final Tuned and Virtua Fighter 5R will all be present and playable in their arcade incarnations, and Virtua Fighter 5 Final Showdown will take the main stage with singles and team tournaments throughout the weekend. NYGX will take place at Next Level Arcade in Brooklyn NY from August 14th through August 16th - hope to see you there.
At this year's E3, Microsoft announced Xbox One backward compatibility with Xbox 360 titles. While not every game will be immediately available, Microsoft are allowing users to vote for their preferred game(s) to be added to the compatibility list, so go ahead and vote for Virtua Fighter 5 Final Showdown! Is this the best chance we have of seeing a VF title on a current gen console?
The archive for the most recent Tokai Bay Area Cup tournament has been posted! This is the latest of team tournaments that serve as pit stops on the road to The 16th Beat-Tribe Cup to be held later this year.
Are you one of the millions that currently enjoy one of Nintendo's most successful recent games, Super Smash Bros. for Wii U/3DS? Well, great news for those that are VF fans as well -- Nintendo is releasing 2 Virtua Fighter-themed Mii Fighter (Brawler type) costumes that you can use for Smash 4. Choose either Jacky, who wears his latest VF5-era Type A costume, or play as Akira, who sports his iconic VF1 player 1 costume.....complete with blocky polygon textures!
The Pre-Beat Tribe Cup 2015 is scheduled to take place in Japan this coming Wednesday 29 April 2015. This popular 5-on-5 team tournament is unique in the fact that the majority of teams are "character" based, and there are currently around 56 teams registered (or 280 players). It's scheduled to start at 11:00 AM Tokyo time at e-sports in Akihabara, and live stream details will be posted as soon as they're known.
If you live in Europe, Sony is having a huge sale for their fighting game titles on PSN, including VF! You can grab the digital downloads of Virtua Fighter 2, Virtua Fighter 4: Evolution, Virtua Fighter 5: Final Showdown, and Virtua Fighter 5: Final Showdown Complete Edition, all from 50% to 70% off!
Virtua Fighter has been going from strength to strength in the city of Toronto, and after a stellar showing at CECC earlier this year, Virtua Fighter is an Official Side Tournament at Toryuken IV! Scheduled for May 15-17 2015 with official prizes from SEGA!
Have you ever felt that your reactions are too slow? Or that you can't keep up with the speed and flow of the game? We often tend to blame ourselves and write the problem off as due to bad genes or old age. However, this 2012 blog article, titled Reaction Speeds in Gaming by Kayin, shows the actual cause is more than likely a mental issue, rather than physical one, and can be overcome with a change in the way you think. Sunday, 22 March 2015 sees the 2015 Newton Cup take place in Japan.
