I don't understand what is the matter with these folks in America...they love tekken and hate virtua fighter...WTF...don't get me wrong before VF3tb I loved..ED tekken but after VF it couldn't compair anymore. But my best friend...my ace had the nerve to tell me he doesn't like VF4 because it's too slow /versus/images/graemlins/shocked.gif slow??? then it was my cousin...the problem is that most people can't handle the truth that if you suck...you suck and you can't beat someone good on your best day if you SUCK. They blame it on the game...and we suffer...so for the next few months take out your memory cards and ... /versus/images/graemlins/confused.giflet them win and they will love VF... /versus/images/graemlins/grin.gif

So very true jherb. Many people I know say that "tekken is faster", or they call vf a "pokefest game". I really don't get it. And really, you can't just let someone win in vf. I did that, and the person started saying "see, you had the game for how long and I can already beat you? this game is scrub friendly" /versus/images/graemlins/crazy.gif I don't know what the hell is up with that...I play the computer most of the time and now they compare themselves to me as if I were chibita? Then when you do beat them, it's like you said..."this game sucks...blah blah blah".

But I've been thinking and I think that I've got a good way to describe to new(er)comers how to approach the game. I'll just have to wait and see if my description works.

And for the record...I'm actually a fan of many fighting games. Go to any of the sites for another game...you'll see my sign-in name there. These past two years though, my love for vf has increased massively.

I agree with everything you said, it's hard to get a new person into this game, especially enough that they are going to want to buy it, but i think in another thread they were talking about how to make the U.S players better, and I think this is relevant for how to get new people into VF4.

When your playing against your friend who is new, instead of basically trashin him everytime and mocking him, give him some advice on what he is doing wrong, or how to play his character better, what moves are more effective than what he is doing, as he tries this and succeeds he'll have more fun, and want to play even more. i have a friend who i have to lock out of my house because he wants to play so much.

another thing i do is challenge them to see how far they can get on the computer, and do the same thing give advice and feedback, it works, and my list of sparring buddies is becoming a lot better

What sucks though, is when they become your equal, or close to it. I gave a friend some advice, what you do in situations, etc, etc. I gave him the blueprint of my mindgames and strategy, and what I was doing to him- after he looked like he was about ready to throw the stick at the TV. Now, it's lead him to become a pain in the ass. Of course, he does it with Jacky, as does my brother, and other neighbor, and......... /versus/images/graemlins/frown.gif

that shouldn't suck. Now you have someone forcing you to evolve and adapt. You just described an idea situaion, imo: teach someone the basics behind the game, they learn and apply those basics and give you a challenge.

GodEater is right. Some people are not as fortunate as you. Having someone reach your lev. of game is something very positive and will help you advance to your next level.

I guess I am in a minority then, because I still feel that VF is a faster series. Tekken to me feels smoother in it's controls, like the SF series does (Which could explain why some like it.). I have also always thought the VF series was more inclined to be a poking game compared to the rest until Tekken 4 came out. That is the absolute king of poke games currently out. 8 frame jab > joo!

I can see why some people see VF as a poking game. I wouldn't doubt if most of these people are Tekken and SC players that are used to the strings.

Yes, I shouldn't have expressed point like I did. I should have written, "it sucks when they behave like children when they win and do some immature celebratiion" somewhere. We like to bag on each other.

As with anything, sports even- where playing with better competition will improve you game than playing with scrubs. I also saw it with SF2 in it's arcade heyday. Funny thing is, my brother and me's been playing since VF on Saturn. VF2 then was released along with Rally, and I remember 6 months of blood, sweat, and tears. The game developed into "something personal." Those 6 months though, it was back and forth with constant improvement, and some frustration... I'm rambling at this point.

So, all that been said, i'll take the opprotunity to say, what the freak do we have to do to get Evo released here, without it being hacked to shreds by the powers that be???????

Make a CG picture of a PS2 inside an All Samoud missile and send it to Sony as an email attachment and tell em you will send that email to Powell as well if they dont allow for the release of VF4 Evo.
If they dont Powell will regard the CG pic as irrefutable proof of Sony´s compliance with Saddam´s evildoing.

No we are not, we are pacifist videogameplayers who think the only place violence has is the fantasy worlds of a videogame.

    Bah!
A "pacifist videogameplayer" would be more inclined to shoot someone in the real world, but adverse to military action within a gaming enviroment. It's ok to bomb a rival nation, but Command and Conquer would be a sin against humanity. /versus/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

I've been playing Tekken since the early days of T2 and VF since inception with long sabbaticals and a complete no-show on VF3. Being a console gamer I have put both VF4 C and Tekken4 through their paces more than any sleep-needing mammal should.
And I have to totally disagree with anyone who says Tekken is faster.
I've always had a bit of trouble adjusting to the fast pace of gameplay in VF4 after extended periods of abstinence. It may take me a day or two of playing to get back into the "zone" of back and forth brawling in VF4. Tekken takes me less than an hour. The main reason is the speed... not frame data of any kind but rather HOW the game is played.
Tekken's neutral guard makes defence easier whereas VF4 with its active guard button and slight advantage in the attackers favor means you have to react to the situation just as much as you think about it. Tekken gives me more time to think as it has less nasty fast mixups after a string that's been cut short on purpose.
Throwing is deadlier in VF4 and cannot be an afterthought in your strategy as it can be in Tekken (although I wouldn't advise it). This means more to think about; in the blink of an eye. Option select defence comes in here and thats more burden on your poor brain. Then you have the slightly more intricate (and speedy) wake-ups in VF4.
You can't sit back and block waiting for an opening in VF... you have to know when and where to quickly MAKE an opening for yourself (ie. low poke). Faster gameplay. Yes Tekken4 utilizes alot of poking too but it's used for interrupts and flow-aggression. Advantage for the poker, when applied properly, is more prevalent in VF4.
Combined all this together and you find Tekken is more a thinking game than a reactionay one. My brain sometimes fizzles when Im playing VF4 at high levels of competition and when playing Tekken4 I usually get into a comfortable state that keeps my mind moving without overloading it.
Both are excellent games in their own right... it's the speed of the gameplay flow that's different.

(now if you'll excuse me I just went on a VF4 bender and need to satiate my need for Tekken too... anyone want to watch me and laugh as I constantly press the LK button to guard and get pummeled all night?)

VFEvo U.S. release is very possible guys. Check this page out of E3 presentations. VFEvo is in black, meaning it's confirmed. Why the hell would Sega bring Evo to present here stateside only to let us down without a release. I'm optimistic now...just that we'd better get that madness about only loading custom chars from slot 1 fixed. We damn well better get it fixed.

That's great news! The only thing I'm worried about now is IF the memory card issue will ever get fixed. I have a sneaking suspicion that the U.S. version has been in the works for a while, and that any potential "petition" effort from us might be pointless.

I'd still let them know how we want the mem card issue to be fixed. That is my biggest worry. The next worry is that this site better be legit. If they meant to put evo in red letters (indicating that they aren't sure that sega will present it at e3) but messed up, I'd be pissed.

This next month or so should reveal more info about e3, thus exposing the truth about a U.S version of evo.
