Why not weapons based VF spinoff?

I will admit, if there was weapons of any kind in and you could switch them with each character, I'd probably go into training, set the CPU to Crouch, give Vane a switchblade and dress her up as close as I could to a suit and redo the Resevoir Dogs scene, including the song as I chopped the poor victim.

I would prefer if the ever made weapons part of the gameplay that they make it on a spin-off. Hey, but what do you think if they added bruises to the match?

Yea there was a figher game that did a reasonable job with bruises it was K-1 Grand Prix for the PS2. The bruises were pretty realistic for the technology.

    Spin-off would be kewl.

If we could hold tourneys where perhaps the weapons based spinoff was the entry level of the tournament and then those that progressed went hand-to-hand that would kind-a-add a new dimension to live tournaments.

How about blood and sweat? Like when the sweat sprays off in a boxing match. Or a bloody nose or the character getting slammed going, "ugh"...

Let's take it a step further and include ripped clothes...

Then we can add Fatalities, Nudalities, and Friendships and VF can lose any identity it had.

(Yeah, I know Michishio is being sarcastic, so am I and making a point.)

VF's identity is most associated with

its very good sense of character balance
    its deep defensive system
    its deep offensive system
its unique character styles (no real duplication in the game)
its graphical attention to detail and 3d animations
its lack of firefalls, poison mist, exploding smoke, etc
its very loyal and capable community of VFers

adding character bruising, or ripped clothes, or flustered hair
would not cause VF to loose its identity, also there aren't any high quality fighters out there that have these features now, so VF would still be distinctive if they were added.

As a community we don't want to lock VF up so much that AM2/Seqa can't add new features right?

I will probably Do VF for a long time to come, I wouldn't mind if they added a new feature here and there. That would be a good thing right?

It's also known as a bare bones game. And I was saying that adding too much way too soon would be taking away from that immediate identity. Maybe around VF10 there's going to be enough brought in, but all that by the next installment? That would be removing the identity.

I see your point, not that I disagree but...

having a new identity (as a result of adding too much too soon)

is not necessarily the same as being identified as just like the other fighters. Because the some-what competition is Soul Caliber, DOA, and Tekken (more or less)

None of those games currently do bruises, ripped clothes, flustered hair, or sweat(although fight night does sweat it not in our genre). So if VF added those it would not loose its identity to those games.

And its hard to tell whether the addition of those things would simply enhance VF's identity or give it an altogether new one..

but you make a good point /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/cool.gif

Soul Edge started as exactly this, I think, before Calibur veered off into lightning fast, button mashing chaos.

It's one thing to add cosmetic changes and a different thing to add gameplay changes. Ripped clothes and sweat stains and stuff would only make the game more realistic. I know if jeffery hit me he'd probably rip my clothes using some of those throws.

I have to disagree... part of VFs appeal to me is that it makes a point of pressing it's higher mental gameplay, instead of just cool graphics of people beating each other, such as games like MK. The focus is really on the interaction between me and my opponent, not the two characters on screen, and I think adding blood on screen or whatever else would only detract from that.

It doesn't appear realistically violent, because it's not actually a violent game... the actual gameplay is closer to something like speed chess than real life boxing and it's a valuable distinction.

I think Vanessa should be able to duel wield the rifle and bazooka that are equipable items.

    Realtime physics would be neat.

Do you mean the kind of physics like in Fight Night, or Fight For New York?

That would be tight! But probably would change the game play... I don't know if its possible to do those kind of physics with just animation...

I'd like to see it go there though (The game play can stay the same forever) /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/cool.gif
