Where's B1 and IMF

Not true, zaibatsu and shoryuken were around and still equally as strong. Ive seen the zaibatsu forums for along time, the internet was already very large. I think cause its a PS2 release plus more popular game.

VF is finally on the most popular system (PS2). It's also closer to the arcade version than previous games were, but the fact of the matter is: Tekken, SC2, Capcom games, etc. are also on PS2. These have always been more popular than VF, so it shouldn't be a shock to anyone that nothing has changed.

IMO, the death of the U.S. arcade scene began when SF2 was first released on the SNES. Fighting games in general seem to be less popular now compared to when I was younger, and arcade games haven't evolved at the same rate that the home consoles have. I hope VF.net makes it to the U.S. to provide players with something they cannot get at home. This is the only thing right now that I think is capable of bringing the VF arcade scene to life.

    "Less hardcore players"

I don't think it's possible to come up with a complete explanation for the lack of hardcore VF players in the U.S. now. You live in a heavily populated area with arcades that actually have VF machines. Others don't have that luxury. Some people play for fun, some will do whatever it takes to be competetive, while others will only play if people in their area share the same interest. I don't think that pounding people to death with shit-talking is going to make them more "hardcore". It only drives people away from an already unpopular game.

VF3 was a few years ago. Many different things can happen in a few short years. Being "hardcore" is very time-consuming. People get older and their priorities change. Some simply just don't have time anymore. People have various reasons for playing/not playing and you should have the decency to respect that. Just be happy that VF is released in america. It's better than nothing.

Hey Andy, quite a response! I must have hit a nerve or something... I'll respond to what I can, but most of what you wrote was just going off on a tangent and putting words in my mouth...

    CrewTW said:

Lemme repeat something if it's not painfully obvious.

YOU were not around in VF3 days. You didn't see what happened. If what you say is TRUE we should have less VF4 players in NYC than VF3.

We had 5 or more VF3 machines in NYC with people playing. We have 1 Evo machine that is .50 at CTF 1 for $1 at Laser Parl. WE HAVE MORE PEOPLE playing vf4 with less machines. Dont trick yourself into thinking we have lots of people so there is a scene to make yourself happy. Cause if that was true in VF3 our scene would have been huge.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Yes I didn't know about VFDC during VF3 days, but I played VF and went to arcades... And I didn't visit any arcades in NYC during this time, but my extrapolation from what I saw around me to what it might have been like in NYC is that during VF3 days, moreso than VF4 days, was that you could walk into any random arcade and find more people playing the current release of VF... I guess I was wrong in my assumption, but in my world (outside of NYC) you could learn some stuff by going into an arcade and playing VF against people during VF3 days... You can't do that during VF4 days unless you live in a major city like Toronto, Boston, LA or NYC...

    [ QUOTE ]

And your explanation why MORE people play vf4 yet there are less people who play than in VF3 days makes no sense cause BOTH scenes really took off when the games came out at home.

Just look at the TRAFFIC at vfdc if you need any proof. What does that have to do with the number of Arcade machines or downfall of VF? VFDC has 10 times the traffic of the VF3 days.

What's your explanation for that Alex? Why are there SO many people who play yet less hardcore comp?

    [/ QUOTE ]

Because they are playing at home amongst small groups of people, not in an arcade where more people will get to play other people out of their groups... If you get VF4 for the PS2 sure you will play against your buddies a lot, but its not like you are going to meet someone outside of your house with an interest in VF, invite them over that day and start playing with them on a regular basis... If you and that same stranger with interest in VF met in an arcade you'd fight there more often... That was my explanation in my last reply too, I guess you missed it there though...

And actually thinking about it and taking a step back, is there actually less hardcore competition now? I mean how many people could kick your ass during VF3 days? How many people give you a run for your money now?

    [ QUOTE ]

And YEAH you must have MISSED the entire mess about B1 and IMF not needing NYC and them stating they are the NEW hotness.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Yeah I did... If you got logs I'll read it over...

    [ QUOTE ]

The thread you brought up was BEFORE anyone liked them on VFDC. Thanks for defending me Alex. I love it.

    [/ QUOTE ]

What are you talking about? I'm not defending you...

    [ QUOTE ]

Now where is your excuse for B1 quitting? I stayed out of it for years. No flames from me. No NYC involvement cause they said they didn't want or need me to be involved.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I don't have one, I never said he was going to be a great player or stick around for a long time - that was you who said that...

    [ QUOTE ]

If you really care about the scene; don't bite the hand that feeds you. (Boston's Shang/Jerky, TO's LLAN or ME)

    [/ QUOTE ]

Are you talking to me here? Or to other people?

    [ QUOTE ]

Cause like B1 and IMF if you dont have the MEANS (time, energy, commitment, money) to support your scene then you are full of hot air to build a scene or make claims in the first place.

    [/ QUOTE ]

You are full of hot air until you go up to NYC and win NYG3...
Then you put your money where your mouth is...

    [ QUOTE ]

Where is the FL HOTNESS you so loved and so admired on VFDC?

    Who knows...

I'm not replying to anyone in particular - but I would like to add my view on player numbers for VF3 and VF4. Imo, there are more players for VF4, mainly because the game is far more accessible to becoming - dare I say it - competent, than VF3. VF3 was, and is, far more difficult to play at a high level than VF4 ever could be. Go back one more, and VF2 is the same to VF3 - more difficult. Add in the exposure VF4 got through being put out on a Sony console, and you've got more players. It's the nature of the beast, really. VF4 is remarkably easy and has attracted more players because of it.

Hi to blondie and imf wherever they are.
    For crew:

Crew's theory: "Maybe my rude trash talk is beneficial to the scene".

    Look at the facts:
    1. Crew has been talking trash steadily without stopping forever now.
    2. The scene isn't improving, it's going downhill.
    3. Therefore, crew's method doesn't work, eh?

I dunno if he's part of the problem, but andy's definitely not part of the solution.

Trash-talking doesn't translate well to the internet. It's really a face-to-face thing. But, between the right people it can get the competition, excitment, and fun geared up at a gathering/tourney. On VFDC however, trash-talking only seems to generate true animosity instead of the friendly rivalry that good trash-talking does.

Long story, short -- I agree with you Creed.
