The reason why JP players' level are unreachable because of the arcade environment!!!

I remembered during VF2 and early VF3, we (Taiwan) had some communication between Japan and Korea. Do you guys know where the fuzzy guard is from? The creator was one Taiwanese Pei player!! One JP arcade magazine had an interview about him coz at very first moment JP players couldn't realize what kind of skill he used. After that, fuzzy(屈伸) was a noun and introduced formally.

Few years ago, 栗田 was invited to Taiwan for a private travel, of course Taiwanese players wouldn't lose that chance and they had a VF party with him. About 10 to 20 top TW players challenged him constantly but one one could beat him (on evo). After those matches, 栗田 said TW players lacking experience, and that was a very big gap to cover(We only have 4 total evo arcades in Taiwan). 栗田 also pointed out one TW player was impressive and that TW player was VF2 world champ, Mr.G. 栗田 also commented if Mr.G was in Japan, he could become one famous VF player no doubt.

For me, the flourishing VF timing was VF2. I bet Yu Suzuki agree too. I really appreciate that we have XBL now, otherwise, I would never log in VFDC and have a chance to hang out with VFDC crew. But I have no pressure when I play online coz I know I won't lose penny even I lose. Well, I believe arcade can force you become stronger because of token pressure. No one would like to waste money~~^^

The history of the discovery of fuzzy guard is interesting.

Do you know about the beginnings of crouch dashing? Was it out of Korea? I remember seeing No4 (I think he is from Hong Kong) the first time in Toronto doing things that had only been hinted about on rgva... mind blowing experience really.

XBL is good thing to have, but its a long way from players being in same physical space. In both good and bad.

For starters the XBL voice needs to work 100 times better. It doesnt work at all for me. Therefore I cannot teach people thru it.

Yes, that discovery of fuzzy is very fun, and that creator is a super genius. He didn't totally realize what he was doing but his sixth sense made his left hand keep doing fuzzy!!!

I don't really know who was the beginner of crouch dashing, but Mr.G broke a lot of records in VF2. I also remembered there was some misunderstanding between team JP and TW coz the interpreter did something wrong from TW players. The video indicated TW players said " JP players needed to prepare more token to play with them", however, they misunderstanding the original meaning.

When the first time ShinZ showed his step on VF3 was during the international tournament, everyone was shocked by his amazing performance. After that event, his video was broadcast by media and almost everyone was trying to copy his step. Do you know how important about his step in VF3? If you couldn't do that stepping, you would NEVER win someone is good at that tech no matter how hard you try.

ShinZ is another good example, if SEGA didn't abandon hard core fans oversea, we could have more impact and spark!!!

If I am not mistaken, I think crouch dashing was created by a Japanese Akira player named Kani (crab I believe) Akira. From what I understand VERY shortly after the game first came out just like the fuzzy guy Dennis mentioned, this Akira player just started using crouching dash as a sixth sense to move around very quickly and since crouching dash resembled and very much looked like a crab walking from side to side he was dubbed with the name Kani Akira. I guess the rest is history.

I don't if this is a true story but this was told to me by my VF mentor Hiro back in VF2 days. I don't see what purpose he would have to lie about something so in a sense pointless like this. Still if it's a true story it's kind of cool how all the awesome stuff that's still around today has a history and game from a sixth sense.... Genius players??? Indeed!

yah, maybe "sevant" is a better term, especially with regards to fuzzy... frame stats didn't exist right away for VF2... it was all trial and error. And back then when the stats first came out it was just exe-act-recovery, there was no advantage/disadvantage stats. We later learned the formula for block stun and were able to confirm guaranteed punishing counters. I still have the hand written table I made that talied up how much block stun was generated for each possible level of damage. God, such primative stuff now... =)

OK, yep. The coolest thing is that he changed his name to AKIRA Yeh when he moved to Canada. He showed me his license or ID card once. I wonder if he still plays.

Do you think that the discovery of fuzzy and stepping lead to VF4 having the system it had?

I mean, a lot of "glitches" of SF3 are back in SF4, so it must mean the creators liked them!

My only question is, if a lot of stuff worked well in VF4 and made the game such a success, why did they change it for VF5? I feel like a lot of awesome stepping tech are not possible in VF5. Am I wrong?

I see they've been changed to 7:00 PDT. We are currently observing Daylight Saving Time - so 7:00 pm is really 7:00 pm.

Sorry to jump to this thread again, but WCG issued a post about rules and regulations:
    http://www.wcg.com/6th/fun/news/news_view.asp?keyno=C09051110000

regarding the discussion before, I noticed this part before reading further:

Much like the standard for participation in the Olympics, all players competing in the WCG 2009 Grand Final must have proof of citizenship to their country. In addition, if the player has multiple citizenship, he/she can represent only one country. All players who were born after November 11, 1991 must present a consent form in order to participate. Regarding age restriction, WCG follows ESRB rating standards.</div></div>

Unless you're lucky enough for their wcg login name (shown in the brackets) to be the same as their xbl tag . . . you pretty much have to wait until the match shows up in

    http://qualify.us.wcg.com/?page=my_matches

at which point you can click on View next to the match, bottom of page has opponent contact info, click More to see it
