I think the deal was he's technically allowed to participate, but he can't win any money even if he does. Some sort of tax issue with giving prizes to non-US citizens. At any rate, he said before he wasn't going because he wanted to take a trip back to Japan for a while, but he's been sort of waffling on the issue since then. Honestly, I'm not positive that he won't come, but I don't think he's going to participate in the actual tourney either way.

My flight leaves on Sunday at 7PM sharp, so I'm pretty much gonna have to catch a cab from the event ASAP after picking up my travel stipend. The closing ceremonies are supposed to be at 3PM, and I really need to be in a cab by 4PM. I wish I'd had the full schedule when I booked my flight...

Only one hour window doesn't sound good enough. Waiting to pick up the travel stipend will take a while. Btw, do you how much it cost to take a cab?

I check the hotel front page and wondering can we use the free wireless in our room? If so I'll bring my laptop.

bah, save money, take subway, nyc is not THAT dangerous anymore. taxi is HELLA expensive. you are probably going to bring one bag right? i dont think that will scream "look im a total tourist, rob me!" so you're good.

Do you have any idea how much it costs if I take a cab about 10 minutes? I just want to prepare enough cash in my pocket.

Ohhh yes that is true. I hope it's free when you sign up and play but the anime festival is 1pm to 7pm so that is good to check things out around and the place and also check the wcg games

Yea, no kidding. I'm going to try to talk to the officials before hand and see if I can work it out so I can pick up my stipend a little early.

I just receive an email from WCG and it says we are able to pick up out stipend about 4PM. So you may need to pay attention.

If it's 4PM I should be fine. I was planning on brining my bags with my to the convention center on the last day and catching a cab to the airport straight from there. Even assuming a worst case scenario taxi travel time of one and a half hours (and that is severe worst case), I'll still make it to the airport with more than an hour to get to the gate. Not ideal, but doable. Still, I'll try to get the stipend earlier if I can to take the pressure off.

Since you all are going to this event, could one of you help me to ask them a question?

This year WCG is in ChengDu, China. If we were to go ourselves to ChengDu, would we be able to enter for VF5 in WCG? What are the steps to enter?

no you wont be able to participate. this event is only for those who place 1st in the nationals within their respective region.

I didn't have internet during the qualifiers or else I'd probably be in this *sigh* oh well.
