Be careful though. The money for EVO is not corporate dollars - EVO is not a company, it's simply well organized gamers.

Samsung and WCG however, are both incorporated bodies and as such the money from this is very very different when it comes to payouts.

Lastly, being international may also work against you, unfortunately. This is likely a gauge of interest for WCG USA's fighting game communities. Adding international competitors would water that down, regardless if there appears to be less than an optimal amount of VFers. Please don't take this the wrong way, but if I was running a similar event in Canada, I would not allow international players simply because the option for the international players to take part in an equivalent tournament in Japan, HK, Korea, USA, etc would cover that opportunity.

Really, I'd encourage you to go, of course - you'd get to hang with Rod, etc and enjoy some VF. That's what VFing is all about, right? But do not be surprised if you would be ineligible to compete.

    Just my 2 cents.

I understand the whole thing which you say. well, just regarding to this event, I really don't know if they check whether I am international since it is open tournament. in anycase, I am going to NYC not only for this event, but also getting some books from japanese book store. thanks for writing it. I am going to ask them about it when I get there.
I will not get upset when I can't be eligible to compete because I am here to be a student. that't would be sad, but more likely, I will try help players get better skills.

Yosuke - i just found out from the Operations Manager, that you can compete, ONLY IF you have a social security number.

    Do you have one?

In any case, i look forward to finally seeing you. It's been a while!

"well, I dont have a social security number, but I could get a check from EVO 2008.Therefore, I dont assume that would be a big problem. Because I am international, they would have more option, I guess."

    looks like he doesnt /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/frown.gif

seems I guessed right. It's like Llanfair said, when your talking about corporate dollars everything needs to be documented to the government. Your Social Security number other wise known as your Tax ID Number is how they can trace / keep track of the money to confirm that WCG is operating around the law and not running any illegal BS.

Anybody who knows about NY travel maybe help me out? If I take a train to Penn Station, whats the best way to get out to the event area?? Taxi? Or do buses run out that way.

Take the A train uptown to 59th Street Columbus Circle. It's on the 3rd floor of the Columbus Circle Time Warner Center.

It's the big, flashy, new building accross the globe structure, the direction away from Central Park West.

I know the "big building" is rather redundant in NYC, but you shouldn't miss it.

From Penn Station you can just hope on the A or C train heading uptown to 59th street Columbus Circle (2 stops on the A / 3 stops on the C). Once you come above ground the event area is literally just a hop skip and a jump away, about 1 block or less away depending on where you exit.

Awesome, thanks for the info guys. I'm still a little shaky on the whole train travel methods, at least in the city. The amtrak that I took for NYG has like one line, with no transfers /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif. Not used to all the transferring and shit.

Also, assuming the tournament for VF5 or SF4 spans across both days, I'll need a place to stay. Can anyone hook me up? It would be huuugely appreciated. Not looking forward to dropping $100 on a room for a night, but will if I have to.

The Schedule for Fighter Club was put up recently. They're getting shit straight ahead of time which is a good thing, brackets are made already and shit. I saw some pretty fun matchups in the brackets. Shirt gets to play gootecks in the first round of SF4 /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/laugh.gif haha good luck bro. I don't know a single person I'm playing in SF4 or VF5.

Thanks! Much appreciated man. In terms of an itinerary you probably won't need to know much. I'll be arriving to the event at like 11:30am all by train. And probably getting right back on a train after the 2nd day of the event.

I just need to know about transportation to and from your place I guess. My SF4 match is at 11:15am on the 2nd day so I need to be there by like 10am for check ins. Thats about it dude. Can't wait to see everyone I met in NYG again /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/laugh.gif
