WCG Fighter Club - NYC April 25-26

Good luck all, this looks like a great event to support. VF and DOA are the two oldest (and most similar) games there, so as I have said on DOAcentral, I hope players for these two games will "have a go" at both and show each other some support.

With player crossover there will be stronger numbers which puts the game in good staid for being a success at this event.

Also will this event be front paged?

From what I can tell, it seems there will be multiple tournaments throughout Sat and Sun, with maybe a final 8 or something played on Sunday. I can't confirm this, but there was talk of multiple tournaments, and this seems to be the most logical setup given WCG's past track record.

 

Good luck with the surgeries Adam, and I hope you make it to the tournament, it'll help pay for the surgery!

 

This sounds like a neat opportunity. I'm willing to bet this event is a tester for the community and turnout for a decision on which fighting game makes into the 2009 roster.

So, if the VF5 turnout is significantly different than the others, we could be in trouble for having VF5 still in WCG.

Please, if you are local/relatively local, do your utmost to attend the event. It could have an enormous impact on VF5 and WCG. I cannot stress this enough.

 

VF5 is a definite for WCG this year. It has already been announced.

Owen, your suspicions are on the right track. WCG is thinking about hosting another fighting game this year and they are leaning on picking SF4.

 

there is no point to even consider anything other than SF4... the turn out for this during that weekend is going to be HUGE! DOA4 will get some heads, but it won't even come close to the turn out SF4 will get.

 

On the register page right now SF4 has double the entries of both DOA and VF. Hell, a few more and it would also double SC.

I had a discussion with the head organizer and fellow judges, we will finalize the schedule a week from the date.

One thing that looks for sure is if you plan to play SF4 be prepared to play on Saturday with the finals on Sunday.

 

is this event open 2 the public? it would be good 4 me 2 watch since im trying 2 get better at this game

Sure you can stay with me that's not a problem, but you should confirm with WCG whether or not you are eligible to compete. I know you have to fill out a W-2 form in order to get paid and the key ingredient to a W-2 form is a Social Security number. Only U.S. citizens or permanent alien residents (ME) who are allowed to live and work here have social security numbers. Do you have this? If you do not have one I don't know if they will let you compete, because if you win they have to issue you a check which get's reported to the government for tax purposes. You should contact them NOW to find out. Maybe they have some special form or something you can fill out or fax to Japan so your parents can fill out to get the proper information about you so you can compete. Good luck and let me know!

well, I dont have a social security number, but I could get a check from EVO 2008.Therefore, I dont assume that would be a big problem. Because I am international, they would have more option, I guess.

 

Well I am just saying you should look into it any way, because it would be a waste to come so far and not be able to compete. Either way you are more than welcome to stay at my place if you want. Just let me know when you will be arriving.
