From Gamersync. I've put the player names in bold letters.

<div class="ubbcode-block"><div class="ubbcode-header">Quote:</div><div class="ubbcode-body">Tetra unhappy with WCG Grand Finals group draw

Day two of the World Cyber Games 2009 Grand Finals group draws has been concluded, and Singapore's Virtua Fighter 5 representative Wilson "Tetra" Chia is fuming mad.

For the second year in a row, Tetra will have to face Japan – the nation that produced last year's WCG gold medalist and home of the strongest VF5 players in the world – in the group stage.

"I am fine if I am seeded together with the other countries that got top three last year," said Tetra. "But Germany got seeded even though he didn't make it to top three in any of the previous tournaments."

(It should be noted that Germany's representative, Darius "stprock" Schuiszill, placed fourth in last year's WCG Grand Finals.)

Therein lies Tetra's beef with the group seedings: he feels that it should not be based on individuals players, but on their nationalities.

Tetra questioned: "Why is an international Olympic-styled event seeding based on player and not country, especially when they emphasize so much that you are representing your country and all?

"At least, the top three countries last year shouldn't be in the same group right?"

Seeding aside, Tetra admitted that his chances to advance from the group stage were slim. He gave the following reasons:

    • Shin "Akira Kid" Eui-Wook will be a difficult challenge. He was the International Maximum Battle Championship VF3 champion and "beat all the Japanese players" back then.
    • The Japanese representative, to be selected this weekend, is expected to be "someone strong"
    • Eddel "ChiefFlash" Dioquino uses a character Tetra doesn't like playing against and Tetra has no prior experience with the American
    • Lack of training partners as the Singapore VF5 community has all but died off since last year's WCG
Besides VF5, the groups for FIFA 09 and Guitar Hero World Tour were also drawn today.

Singapore's FIFA 09 representative, Chiang Wen Jun, was placed in Group D. The first-timer to tournaments on an international scale will have his work cut out for him as he will be facing competitors who are veterans of last year's WCG Grand Finals.

GHWT representative Joel Teo was placed in Group C. Although not much is known about the other competitors, GameSync understands that last year's silver medalist, Italy's Lorenzo "Lo7_" Castelli, is in the same group as Joel.</div></div>

It's most intriguing to me that "ShinZ" (aka "Akira Kid") is still playing VF. I thought he stopped with VF4.

Anyway, great he is REALLY BACK! Now where's Ige Lau ...

ShinZ was still pretty hot back to VF4EVO, and I remembered he was invited to Japan for something offical tournament as well; however, the result wasn't good enough as what he earned in VF3.

What I hear is ShinZ never quit VF but apparently he doesn't play that much either. I personaly love his playing style and always consider him as one legendry of VF!! Especially when he was a kid!!

If I was tetra too I'd be pretty pissed off as well.
No disrespect to Group A but Group B is so lopsided that most of the really good matches will be in group stages rather than in the knock-out stages.

Anyway they won't change it and I assume it was just a Random draw. However if they seeded the other games then VF5 should be redrawn.

Kamais, if you don't know then don't post.

A few of us lucky enough to have met him at previous WCG events know that Aoiyuka is a beast with just about every character. He has no main, and will choose a character that he thinks works best against you.

Myke is correct, Aoiyuka has no main!!! It depends on who is the opponent and he can switch anyone he wants. He DOES know how to play almost EVERY characters with his incredible ability~

Oh ok, I was just responding to Flash being worried about Lau's because I've fought some of his characters and I felt that Lau was his strongest among them, it explains why he uses soo many different characters though, good to know.

One thing that definitely needs clarity, and I'll inquire as well, is how many people advance from the pools.

With 24 players last year, advancing the top 2 players from each pool of 6 made for a nice bracket of 8 for the single elimination. With less matches to be played overall in the round robin, perhaps the format will simple remove the bottom 2 from each pool and again form an 8 person bracket.

If that's the case, then the single elimination matches will be much more appropriate. I definitely look at my bracket and feel remarkably lucky when looking at the strength in Group B. But if they go to top 4 advance, then much of the complaints perhaps will be addressed and the VF tournament won't feel too short.

Perhaps all of you have to wait until the last second to figure out the schedule. But eliminating the 2 bottom players at first from each group is fair enough and sounds reasonable to progress into last 8 person bracket.

I will be reaching China on the 10th of Nov. Fuudo will also be reaching on the same day.

Also, if anyone wants to laugh at WCG's random name mistakes. Fuudo became 'Food' on the website.

I will be staying at the 18 Steps hotel. Fuudo will be at Holiday Inn. I am hoping the hotel isnt too far from each other.

Will anyone be bringing xbox over?

    See you in China, Darius.

Thanks Danny! You should have come along with me!

PS: Yes the bracket suck. They should have seeded Japan too! How can I be seeded when Japan isnt even seeded [IMG]

Germans arrive too at Nov. 10th. Got no clue about the disposition of accomodation...last year there were two y-hostels. We had 2 Xbox-Setups in Köln; at least one would be nice in Chengdu....any plans?

@Tetra: Is that a hotel where WCG-Players will stay at...or private? See you there!

Anyway im looking forward to meet the VFers and hopefully get some nice impressions of China.

Well, last year me and Danny brought 1 setup. You guys brought the other 1 rite? Maybe we can fixed something up this year? Would be a hassle for me to bring this year cos of alot of transits and stuff.

    Yes thats a hotel that we will stay in. There are 2 hotels. So probably the same as last year -_-;
Unless Fuudo made a mistake. He isnt staying the same Hotel as I am [IMG]
