What? Does that mean VF is officially dead now?!

Looks like the site is back up, with no new updates. Could've just been a server hiccup, I didn't think to check any of the other *.sega.com sites.

I checked for Tekken 7 in bing and the articles from 2010 said that the game was already in development. Since then, nothing else was even mentioned about that game :/

It takes alot of time and effort to build and enhance character models, the love and care Team Ninja put into enhancing Akira, Pai, Sarah, and Jacky is remarkable, and keeps at least some of the VF characters "up to date" and saves them from being relegated to "looking outdated" and helps keep VF relevant and "in the moment". TN have also won alot of new fans for the VF characters; Pai's new hair style in DOA5U, for example, has made waves.:)

The worrying thing is Sega seems to prefer "acquiring" other people's IPs to nurturing its own, which reflects a move away from development and increasingly being simply a faceless publisher of other people's games.

This is a great point here...I agree with you, and I'd say that most probably don't even know that VF exists...Combine that with this new generation of gamers who have numerous, flashier alternatives...and well, you know...

That said, what Kanura mentioned is what I believe is part of the key to this problem:

Like. Like. Like. Well said! The VF characters' inclusion in DOA is a really interesting phenomenon...Which is quite possibly the best thing to have happened to VF since FS's release on console.

In general, it seems as though the VF community is comprised more of older folk on average than the DOA community...This is just a brief generalization based on what I can take from some demographics here and on FSD.

That said, the reception to the VF characters in the DOA community has been pretty awesome for the most part(Of course there are some detractors...) and it has created a new generation fanbase of VF characters!

Here's a taste of some of the dedication these players have put into playing the VF-characters:

    and...This lol:

Even better, some DOA players are even reaching out and getting into VF! It's a really awesome thing!

All in all, I think if VF6 does come out, there will be a lot more potential players due to its increased exposure...Although, in order to retain it and keep a "casual" community base around it(As we will always have a hardcore base)- Sega AM2 should really take a few cues from Team Ninja in regard to presentation/story/etc...Look at some of the things that initially drew this new generation of gamers to DOA in the first place and go from there...Without sacrificing that which makes us all play this as our primary fighting game.

A VF game with a AM2 deep gameplay, and Team Ninja visuals and presentation (and some cameos from Dead or Alive..why not?). Believe.

I told you guy's. Even though TTT2 didnt do what was expected on console's its arcade
brother gathered more then enough in its run to guarantee the continuation of the series.
Also Harada wouldn't let its baby pass away so easily. For this, fighting games in general and TEKKEN im happy!:D

IMO this is going to be a funny generation for console games. Many sites have reviewed xbone and ps4 by saying "no rush to get one yet" and that is my feeling too. If a new VF comes out for next-gen consoles, I and others like me will not be in a position to get it. I may be poorer than most, since I dont have a job, but thats the way many feel about it.

This can be seen in the way games are made today, as tekken and doa to an extent have gone "freemium"; DOA5U is an ok game but what is keeping it alive for tecmo is the costumes DLC, nothing else. Turnament wise the game is dead.

I think VF will struggle if its xbone/ps4 only as it has always been.

I would also add that I want to keep my stick and I flatly refuse to buy another stick, since the one (two in fact) I have its pretty darn good and I dont want to buy another stick. Fuck MS and Sony on this.

All in all, VF6 may have a better opportunity in the arcades, and in a couple of years, maybe, bring the second revision to consoles. Always hoping that 1) they come down in price and 2) they somehow find a way to make stick compatible.

So Akira is officially the dumbest character in two fighting game series now?

    Back to sleep....

    :p

Actually, you may be able to say 3 once Dengeki Bunko Fighting Climax drops...because, well, you know: http://shoryuken.com/2013/12/16/dengeki-bunko-fighting-climaxs-final-boss-is-akira-yuki/

    Only time will tell...:D

Still, that's just a highly-situational stage-specific combo...Other characters have those as well...Some even have crazy character-specific ones, such as against Alpha-only...

Check out Pai's last combo here, @10:22:

While there are a lot of cool things that VF could learn from DOA, death combos are things that should not be in the next VF...Or DOA either for that matter. lol

Except that there's nothing "combo" about that "combo." DOA lets you parry while stunned and you could have done that at least a dozen times in that sequence.

I'm absolutely for death combos and higher damage in general. VF plays too nice. If you're not afraid of losing because you know you won't die in match, there's no tension and little incentive to play your best. That's boring.
