So all this hype for the 20th anniversary is essentially for naught? =/

You don't think a 20th anniversary is worth celebrating? o_O

Well yes, of course it is, but considering VF5 first came out in 2006(!) I figured they'd use the opportunity to announce a new game as well. But I guess things have changed a lot since the 10th anniversary (which VF4 Evo coincided with)

I hear what you're saying. It's probably not the "celebration" most had in mind, including myself.

It just says a lot about Sega these days, considering Sonic got a big 20th anniversary game (big Sonic fan so not dissing Sonic don't get me wrong)

I remember 5 years ago, there was no celebration of VF (at least to my knowledge).

As far as im concerned, nothing!
Lets face it. VF is as good as dead since SEGA dont give a fuck about us people who are
keeping them relevant. The closest we get to a new VF is the DOA5U (which is fighting engine is not my favorite due to lack of true sidestepping and button mash friendly gameplay).
Yes we are going to see cameos in other games and yes i do hold hope the VF6 is bound to happen at a very, very late state of the next gen but i wont hold a candle over it.
Lets just be happy with what we have till the servers are down. Then we can all play against the CPU and share our stories... At least for us who have no active community.

Don't get me wrong but the release of the home version of VF5FS and the two SEGA Cups do not mean anything? VF is dead just because SEGA didn't announce VF6 at a event that was dedicated to the first 5 games of the series?

Right now, we don't know anything about the next VF, Tekken, Soulcalibur, KOF, even the next SF. That doesn't mean that all these series are dead. Come on, we are VF-fans, we have a lot of patience ;)

Well, that's just it. Why would Sega do all of this just to, at the end of the day, kill the series? Why waste money on Sega Cup and other events that remind us of how awesome VF is only to no longer support it?

At this point, the fact that Sega hasn't announced anything about the future of VF is the equivalent of letting it rot and die.

The next big chance Sega has to announce a VF6 would be if they did another Sega Cup in the west. I'm not sure how likely that is, or how likely Sega is to announce anything.

I haven't lost ALL hope just yet. But, being a huge fan of Sega in the 90s and being a part of an awesome community such as VF, I feel abandoned.

Tekken 7 is in the works. I had my share in Zaibatsu and i can assure you that NAMCO is working on their next arcade platform and the team's leader is Harada. Secondly if i recall
right Harada asked out of the blue "Which Tekken was community's favorite" in order to focus for his next project.
Second SF5 will happen. It's just a matter of time and it doesnt need to happen that soon. UltraSF4 is there to fill its shoes.
Third MK10 is in the works. The caterpillar eye brow man has recently said that they are working on concepts.
Forth: SC6 will happen since the fifth part was a commercial success.
KOF: Will happen. The KOF team from what i remember was searching for 3d animators.
Injustice2: Will happen after the smashing hit (personally i own and hate this game) was the first one
Next MARVEL: Wont happen! At least for a long time
I've been following/playing all these games for far too long so most of these news can be found on relevant sites if you are willing to go and search for facts.
Dont get me wrong or ill willed. I really like VF and i want as much as everyone of us a next chapter in the franchise. SEGA just didnt deliver what i was looking for and seeing the game being at best a side show (Where the F. is Chibita?) plus the inactivity on major tournaments, adding insult to injury the DOA5U VF character give away and the arcade ver of DOA5U hosted by SEGA it makes me fear for its future.
All those pre-mentioned games are in the works for the next gen systems where is my VIRTUA FIGHTER 6? I want my new polished characters that i saw in DOA5U with out DOA's mash happy game play!

    VIRTUA FIGHTER 6

Patience is not my virtue.Rant over...:p

EDIT: Why no one is playing on PJS stream?

How are you sure that it is in the works? Does that mean Tekken x Street Fighter won't happen? Also, when do you suggest that Tekken 7 will be released?

Tekken 7 is not announced officialy. Same goes for the other fgs you mention. Ono said that Capcom haven't got the money to make a next gen SF, but Ono's statement haven't stop you from believing that SFV will be released sometime in the future. AM2 never said that VF6 was canceled or that they are not making VF anymore. Don't jump to conclusions so fast ;)

Also, DOA5U has nothing to do with VF. It's financial success or failure has absolutely nothing to do with the future of VF. SEGA is an arcade publisher, and they agreed to publish Tecmo's game.

With any IP, the key thing to sustaining and growing its popularity is keeping it visible, reminding people its there, and making sure people are aware of it. Sega does not seem to understand this aspect of marketing. They are also very slow and bureaucratic, meaning they are slow to react to market trends, and tend to be behind them (whereas Sega used to make those trends). VF5, fantastic though it is, has not aged well (hence why the character models needed to be reworked for DOA5).
Yes, the Sega Cup is a great thing, and I commend those who organized it and made it happen, but without a new VF on the horizon to show it has a future, it will be hard to sustain people's interest in VF.

This 2 posts have one thing in common in fact; one thing many people fail to realize:
    dying of VF

With dawn of current-gen consoles, I am afraid game with as small base as VF have will have online servers running more then 1 year since now. Servers are expensive, player base on old-gen consoles is (and will be) shrinking every day and the support of "old" XBL will not go forever (I may be wrong, Xbox Halo 2 was supported for 4,5 years after X360 release; but that was BIG game and as far as I know, the last days (years) of original XBLive where not exactly nice and smooth)

    Now do the math:
    1) Once the FS online support is shut down, the FS game is as good as dead
    2) there is no FS on next-gen, so the shuttown (or downgrade of online quality) is just matter of (unknown but not THAT distant) future
    3) if there is no VF6 at that time of FS online shutdown, it is THE end and anything after that will be resurrection (what is PAIN) and not continuation
    4) given how long it usually takes to get console release after arcade release from Sega and how long it usually takes since 1st announcement to arcade release, Sega needs either change their ways completely, or announce VF6 NOW - else see point 3)

And now exactly THIS is why I am looking forward to see VF6 announcement - with fear in my heart and anger in my head because I do not believe we will hear anything from Sega. What means VF is as good as dead - unless you live in Japan.

    :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :(

And yes, ATM I am angry and salty and mad because of the reasons above.

Harada confirmed they are working on "next gen Tekken" and states that it is "too early to say anything more"
Ono stated SF5 will come in 4 or 5 years, as per "standard SF timeline" plus Capcom stated they will "reaffirm their presence in FG gender in 2014"
Boon sated that "Injustice 2 is definitely possible" plus he confirmed they are "working on new project"
SC6 is pure speculation AFAIK, but there is SC: Lost Swords announced for 2014 already.
    KOF14 is only speculation AFAIK.

Put this all together and you can see Capcom, Namco and Netherealm already confirmed their continuous FG support. But Sega... No, they didnt sated ANYTHING yet. Not even a single word, not even as unclear as Harada or Boon where.
Even if they will say some shit like "we will not abandon our VF fighting series", I will be happy - happy to see they CARE. But they do not look to care even THAT much :(

Maybe you have a point but -if I'm not mistaken - I can't recall Sony or SEGA saying anything about closing down VF's online servers. If Sony decides to close PS3 servers it will affect not only VF, but every fg (TTT2, SCV, KOFXIII, USFIV etc.). I will start to worry from the moment Sony/SEGA makes an official statement about shutting down their online servers.

As for Tekken 7 and all the other next current gen fgs, keep in mind that companies like SEGA, Capcom, Namco are having a "wait and see" policy, regarding PS4 and XOne. Even Kojima said that MGSV Phantom Pain will be released only when PS4 and XOne installed base will be large enough. The same goes for every major Japanese publisher. AM2 said something similar to what Harada said: they are working on something but it is to early to talk about that.

Point is that this gen will sooner or later be over. Yes all fighting games
    will be dead by then.
But... UltraSF4/SF5, Tekken7, SC6, MK10 and Injustice 2 along with KOF will be
there on next gen. Their respective companies are keepeing them in the spotlight.
What is SEGA doing on the other hand? Selling trinkets of old instead of nourishing
VF to keep it safe till the time has come for a new iteration.
Yes im disappointed. 2014 is at the doorstep. They better make a good announcement
or at least be honest and say that is a game over...

Maybe we should all just take a step back and catch our breath. Maybe we're overreacting. I think it's too soon to start making these kind of calls. Despite all the other franchises Sega has left by the wayside, VF has endured, so I'm willing to have a little faith, for now.

It was a very long time between Street Fighter 3: Third Strike and SFIV, and a long time between Marvel vs. Capcom 2 and 3. 3S and MvC2 didn't even need online. I could wait a while for VF6.

The 20th Anniversary things SEGA has done can't have been done without some reason. If they really didn't care, I don't think there would have been anything at all. Besides, as far as I know, AM2 is still around, and they've got to be working on something, right? Sorry if I'm kind of ignorant on this subject, but typically a new VF is made when Sega releases new arcade hardware. So, I'm hoping that's going to happen eventually.

But let's try to remain at least somewhat positive. Is there anything we, the fans, could possibly do to help the franchise out at this time? I wish there was a way we could get more people into the game.

Namco haven't said anything about T7, SC6, SNK didn't say anything about KOFXIV (3 years have past since the release of KOFXIII, and no news as of today), Capcom haven't said a word about a next gen SF. Despite the lack of any real confirmation, you are 100% that T7, SC6, KOFXIV are indeed coming, one way or the other. On the other hand, SEGA is doing exactly the same thing by not telling anything about VF6, and suddenly everyone is panicked! No real news from Namco/Capcom/SNK = Official Confirmation, No real news from SEGA = VF is dead. Perhaps a job offer (in the case of SNK) is louder than the 2 SEGA Cups, and a web page dedicated to the 20th anniversary? I don't think so ;)

I'm not defending SEGA. I know how this industry works. Times are tough for the majority of Japanese developers. I know it can be difficult for many of you to have faith on your beloved developers. So, we all can be more patient. There is nothing else we can do right now. Oh, my mistake. Have can do one more thing: keep playing VF, while waiting ;)

People are right. They should port FS to steam. THAT online support is not going to die down anytime soon, but it would also be a completely new territory (in terms of players) for VF since modern VF has never appeared on PC (I don't really count VF2).
