I like the idea of defensive moves, but I think they were made too good in the last one. I don't think they should be full-circular mids that knockdown on any hit and can ring-out someone when your back is the wall and all that jazz. I think they should be fairly weak in terms of damage potential, and different characters should have different properties, like some could be high, some low, some mid, some could have circular properties, some could lead to small combos on CH but be more counterable etc, but on the whole, they should be viewed as a 'safer offensive option' from evading, meaning the evader chooses to go with an attack that will come out a lot faster (since it doesn't need the evade to finish before starting up) and is thus much more likely to connect, but it won't offer as much damage as if you were to finish your successful evade and then do something more punishing.

The idea behind it would be, if you're evading and would rather make sure you get a hit in and shut down the possibility of getting tagged by a second hit of a string, you'd use the evade-attack; if you're evading and would rather be in a position to do a lot more damage and cause a lot more pressure on your opponent, you'd do an evade and then check your options. If most of the DM attacks are just like, say, 20-25 damage on recovery-counter hit and do not knock down (maybe leave the DM attacker at +1 or +2 or something), then they're gonna be used more of a 'poke' after evading, when you're not too sure what your opponent is going to do. If you feel more confident that your evade is going to lead to more damage, you let the evade go through, and punish with your bigger moves (the downside being that you can get tagged by the second part of a string, or you might not get any damage at all if you've evaded something that isn't punishable if it's evaded, like a jab or something, where the DM attack would have landed).

That's just how I envision it.

Also, Jacky's flipkick needs to do more damage.

I'm whatever about it , really. I do miss CH-> Low Throw, since that was always a nice 60%+ damage option of two hits though. I liked using OM in 5 like I do in FS, just beacuse if the OM attack wad blocked it put me in two choice, or at leadt or felt like it.

I remember people bitching about DM attacks calling them "noob shit" and what not but they were still punishable, like everything else in VF, so if someone kept spamming them, it was a free win.

Watching SCR stream. The Pai Chan costume. Dear god. The amount of visual tone-deafness is astounding. It isn't the only reason the game isn't very popular, but a consistent look and feel and atmosphere sure wouldn't hurt.

Getting rid of the DMPK was the best design choice SEGA made in FS, in my opinion. Because a lot of those moves had very little guard stun, they were very difficult to punish online. And from a technical point of view, it was too easily executed for how useful it was when at disadvantage. I never used it on principle. DMPK was the epitome of shenanigans.

I really think that Street Fighter Alpha 3's World Tour mode is a proper example of a Quest Mode-like story that doesn't beat you over the head with plot points. I was pretty well addicted to that, back in the day.

I think that the whole story topic that keeps coming up (sorry) is really just a matter of stronger character emphasis. Again, the last thing I want is for a VF story to beat the player over the head mid-game. But a stronger emphasis on characterization and interactions between them are really all it needs to feel that much more dynamic.

And crappy 30 second long arcade mode endings, because they are everything to some people, for some reason.

Character (match-up) specific intros could be pretty cool. I like that.

This would be cool. They should do like VF2 and even have different stages like the Chicago stage, when it was Jacky vs Sarah. Even had a different track as well!

    This.

I'd love to see some more modern remakes of some classic stages.

No if you have to multi evade, evade then doing nothing or evade then guard =)

Against auto tracking, you have to know what you do like in third strike when you manage to parry several moves in a row.

People have to accept that defending is not supposed to be a easy task, and guard should stay the best option on defense...

I find the auto tracking/evade system perfect in FS.

I agree that spamming strings is also too powerful, especially when some characters have so many that it is waaaaay too much work to familiarize yourself with all of them (I am thinking of Brad, Eileen, Shun, etc.). But if one could dodge any linear string move and then automatically land jeff's knee, that would be crazy, even if you, uh, want to become a predator and stuff... :)

I was at the arcade last night, and I lost 4 times in a row to a freakishly aggressive Aoi player, who seemed to have no trouble whatsoever evading Jean's strings. :(

One thing we have to take into account- there's what we say we want, and what we actually want. Often two different things.

Right now, I think the problem with FS is that technical stuff can too often dominate players even when they know it's coming. It's just not bustable enough. Every OS needs to be punishable in a big way.

The idea of making evades negate TE's for a time period, no matter what you do, would be a good start, or just make a failed evade uncancellable. In return, bring back DM as the evade cancel, but make it risky.

I don't have a problem with the TE system, outside of it being appiled inconsistently. SOme things are old system, and some things are new system. I'd make everything new system, and liberalize the directions needed (147 would TE back, 258 neutral, and 369 front)- you'd have b/n/f side throws as well. Also, I'd add in some trick throws to mess folks up with the grappler chars, like giving Jeff a press slam option from headbutt.

As for new characters- I'd want a boxer of some sort, VF needs a boxer, and for the other char maybe some obscure MA no one is thinking about.

That's what happens when you actually know how to play the game instead of bitching about something because you suck.

The "you" in the above sentence isn't directed at you Devdan, just the people that suck.

Like Goh, Jean is pretty easy to avoid as most of his circulars cover the same direction.

-Soulcalibur V lobby room.It was just perfect...Choosing the country was so great. It should become a standard.

-customisation of soundtracks per stage.Just like SCV but with every past vf ost included,no overpriced dlc packs...

-return of VF4 evo world tour, but with less grinding for items.Winning items when winning promotion match would be great or simply use the arcade system available online, even in non ranked rooms.Enabing a challenge system in it?Like recent games?

-trying to improve VF3 Level design? But don't get rid of small stages in rectangle,i Like to beD' toe to toe with my opponenent. They did get rid of that design because they had problem but some tweaks could make it great.Nô need for DOA Level though ^^

-A real boxer even if Brad is the one supposed to represent it.Return goh to a more traditionnal judo please,i understand that hé needed a buff but his new approach is ridiculous.I miss his old 2/8k+g on oki hé hé ...

-when i see the great new animations of idle stance,i just want some taunts ^^.

Thèse are pretty much aesthetics thoughts since I am pleased with what they did with vf5fs.Even though some changes are not appreciated by japanese players.Maybe less advandced BS ...

-return of the old middle stagger? Not sure about this one if you consider the new TE system.

You could make a boxer work on VF. Give him limited kicks that aren't technical or flashy, and just make most of his attacks punch-based. He could still have a 'side kick' with the usual frames associated with them, and it could just have an animation similar to Brad's standing K. Could have a shin kick that just kinds stabs the opponent's lower leg with his toes, and maybe something that lunges forwards, somewhat ungracefully, like Jeffry's 66K. Could have a groin kick, since that's a 'dirty' attack and doesn't require any real kicking prowess to be effective, as well as some mediocre knees that can be used to start/end strings. Then make all of his major staples punches and build his core offence around punch and forward + punch strings (kinda like how Jacky plays, but with a boxing feel to it).

Of course, what we really need is farting polar bear standing upright and wearing tennis shoes, and a 100-year-old man who fights on the floor. Wait, scratch the second one, Shun's got it covered!
