The game title of "Virtua Fighter 5 Ultimate Showdown" has just been rated by the Game Rating and Administration Committee of Korea for the PS4 platform, and, interestingly, the rating lists "Virtua Fighter esports" as the original title. With recent news of the PS3 store shutting down, and no current, stand-alone way to play VF5FS on a PlayStation 4 or 5 console, could this be SEGA's move to kill two birds with one stone? Officially bring the latest title in some kind of updated "ultimate" form into the esports scene, and playable on a modern console?

The worst scenario here would be linked to the F2P formula, where the initial roster include only the VF1 original characters, then they start with DLC/season pass to re-include VF2 characters, than VF3, 4, Evo, 5, R...

It would be an ugly practice, basically paying and waiting months to have back VF5FS roster, and on top of that you even have to pay for it (remember that FS is included free in 3 Yakuza games, they should justify the new release with tons of new content, otherwise it's useless even as a free game).

I don't think they'll do it with the characters, but the costume parts will definitely be DLC. It's an acceptable practice these days and even FS had them as DLC. We'll probably get a number of season passes that add a growing number of costumes.

I don't know if it's feasable for them.
i mean Virtua Fighter is not a casual game where people go just to buy costumes or aestethic items like Fortnite etc.

I pray this is not a F2P game, but if it is, I bet characters roster will be the part sacrificed on season pass together with costumes.

Happy to be wrong in case.

I don't think they'll sell the characters in season passes just because the roster is so small. 20 characters is kind of minimum these days. If they are planning to create new characters then I do see them selling them.

I don't think they will make it F2P, not unless they somehow found a way to monetize it heavily and I don't see many casuals buying the costume packs to make money.

My guess is a paid game with all the characters from FS and then a slow release of costume parts which we can buy. That will ensure a steady income and keep the game active for longer since there won't be any characters hidden behind a paywall. Seeing as how the image and placement on the asian store leaked I figure we don't have long to wait before we hear more from Sega themselves. I mean, they wouldn't put a place holder on the store unless it was releasing soon right?

      Agree, I hope you're right.

It would be the ideal scenario to have a complete game on both retail and PSN, with content on par with VF4 evo or VF5 vanilla (quest mode, costumes, new stages etc.) ,in that scenario we could accept some brand new costume DLC next.

Let's hope Sega for once will not disappoint us.

Urg, I might be part of a minority here, but I'm actually not hoping for Quest mode to return. I don't want to spend 25 hours playing one character just to get my hands on his best item, item I have from the get go with Final Showdown.

I'm all for new content and all, but let's at least have everything we had in FS from the get go.

Simply having small stuff like wallpapers, retro win poses, etc. to be unlocked through solo modes would be cool though.

Why SEGA would do that? It doesn't make any sense, since you have access to the arcade version via Yakuza 6, Like a Dragon and Judgement, and you can play the console version of the game on Xbox One and Xbox Series.

For now, I'm really happy to play VF5FS again. It's a good staring point and I think that Ultimate Showdown is the first step for the revival of the series.

Im starting to believe this leak was real, that bridge appears on the backround video from the TGS announcement.

Looks like we are getting a new VF5 revision with new stages, improved graphics and gameplay tweaks :)

That whole scene in the background is nothing but VF5FS intro.

Again, I am on the side of this bringing new tweaks, models improvement and changes.

I'd rather have a new game on a new engine than another revised version of VF5 and PS4 only is meh. The only good thing about the leaks so far is there doesn't seem to be any new characters, judging from the artwork.

I don't mind if it goes free to play but I'd rather they sell cosmetics than characters.

Agree on the cosmetics vs characters.
I actually would love a port to all systems of the old games, it doesn't rule out a sequel down the track. I hate when old fighting games become really difficult to play on modern hardware, so I'd love to see both.

That VF5 Ultimate Showdown pic, with all of the characters in it looks nice. I really like it and the rich colours used in it too, it gives it a late 80's look. I was admiring it the day when someone posted that pic on this forum.

But one thing I noticed the first day I saw it. Why does Sarahs face, look a bit like Serah Fallon from Final Fantasy 13? And coincidently, both have the name Sarah. Sarah=Serah. I'm wondering, if sega hired a square enix artist, to make that artwork. :holla:

All in all, there's this part in me, that's wondering if that art work is legit.

I wonder if we will hear anything new about this game before Evo. We need news and infos about the game c'mon Sega.

I can't wait for this game so i can finally throw my PS3 out of window (of course i'm not gonna do that but you get my point lol)

If I'm being honest I imagine the game might be upscaled to 4K potentially, I don't think we'll see new characters though. At this point I just want to know what it is. A remaster? Content from all revisions?

Balance patch and Solid Netcode will do it for me. Balance patch is super important so it will somehow put community from ground zero, and to have some fresh taste on it. Netcode is simply a must specially nowaydas for any fighting, if they can make netcode as good as MK11 or even GG strive (that's even better) that would be super neat. And i also hope for an overall solid online experience user, Tekken 7 and Soul Calibur 6 are so awesome when playing offline, but when i go online the games are so toxic because of some reasons.

I don't want to go deep in, but i can say as a more Tekken and Soul Calibur fan than SFV and MK11 my online experience for the latter games has been better personally speaking, there are also some weird things in T7 online that it's weird they never change or fix, despite the game still had support since then, but some little weird annoying things easy to fix but never fix, all add together make the online experience quite trashcan.

For VF5 US online for example what i hope it will have Forced FT2 similar to MK11 system, and good antiragequitte system.

I won't be too surprise if there's no new character, also the poster already is hinting at that, but realistically it will be super weird if there is no big balance patches + new moves for all characters, because if not they would have simply called it VF5FS remaster instead of VF5US.

Maybe also a model and face update for characters would be nice to add to this freshness, i would love too but with Sega i'd won't hope much for it, but that will nice if this happens for sure.

According to that leaked artwork, it looks like there are updated looks for some characters?

Yeah, but i suppose this artwork was made using CGI and not ingame? Usually (if not always) Sega uses CGI for their cover artwok and not ingame model (like most games actually), and if that's the case it means characters will have new cgi portrait (like my avatar and you avatar picture), which actually make sens in a way. But i wouldn't yet bet 100% as character model will be updated, tho i really hope Sega will.

I think the models will be upgraded. The new mugshots in the leaked art work show drastically different style than VF5-FS and somehow had the vibe if being from an in-game.

It's still unclear what that artwork ever was. Or if it's real, if it's from OG VF or FS or R. I wouldn't put too much stock into it to be honest.
