Yeah, I have a feeling it is the netcode as even with my brother in law who lives about a mile away I struggle to evade mid string.

Netcode bro. Her lil 9-piece online only combo you can never seem to tech out of online was working like a charm. This is real unacceptable

I was really hoping Sega will slap Bandai Namco in the face by making a dope netcode for vf5us, but they didn't. They actually not only manage to make it work worse than T7 and Sc6, but also worse than vf5fs, a game released in 2012.

After playing 300 games, i can say for sure the netcode is bad. I dont know if local players in my region dropped off, but the majority of the matches as of late has been laggy or moves are not coming out as intended.

I hope there is something sega can do

The game is great, but if the online continues to lag and be more of an annoyance than a playable fighter, then i may have to drop the game for now and dabble in it casually here and there.

It's a shame because i really want to stick with it. Hopefully sega can make some adjustments such as a filter option for different regions or fix the connection bar to show how good the connection really is. Or show if the user is on wifi etc.

I decided to come back in VF5US after 10 days of GG Strive:

Man this is the worst netcode i can remember in a long time, i think last time a netcode was that bad or worst was Tekken 6, even SF4 vanilla online was better.

To be honest, almost every fighting games netcode is close to horrible. I saw a few random posts, from people who are not VF fans, who claimed that the VF5 Ultimate Showdown netcode, is actually a bit better than SF5 and Tekken 7. I guess the user experience, is different for everyone. But yeah, VF5 US might need to improve their online capabilities. Sega can easily do it, since they have been doing online, since the dreamcast days long before most consoles, even adopted online play. Hopefully, they do.

Are room matches bugged? Rematch only seems to work sometimes in longer sets (best of 3, 5 etc.) and I frequently get dropped back to the lobby. Is there any solution to this?

Starting from the point that I'm not the best player in the world... but I have the feeling that this "absorb netcode" doesn't absorb delay but my inputs...

Not sure if this is a netcode issue, but I noticed in some online matches my diagonal inputs [9][K], [3][K], [3][K][+][G], [3][P] comes out as [8][K], [2][K], [2][K][+][G], [2][P]. This becomes very obvious when trying to execute the moves on the 2nd player side and when latency is much more obvious.

I thought it was poor execution on my part on the 2nd player side or my arcade stick have some issues. But in between matches, I have no issue of executing those moves in the offline training mode. When displaying inputs, I do see that my inputs of diagonals on the 2P side is not as "clean" as they are in the 1P side (a frame or two on where the game read my input as [2] or [8] before it is read as [3] or [9]). Even though it was not as "clean" of an input, the game definitely registered my inputs correctly offline.

There's definitely a host/hosted position assigned to 1P and 2P. 1P tends to be the host and have superior connection and experience. 2P tends to be the red-headed stepchild that no one loves.

I have good matches as player 2 tho as well as player 1. Being hosted doesn't seem to be an issue at least for me imo. But the netcode has been funky in the last 2 days

I really wanted to like the new VF. I don't know what it's like in other parts of the world but in the UK I've found the lag to be unacceptable for a lot of matches (I have wired, high speed fibre). Instead of playing proper VF with hit confirms, fuzzy guarding etc I resorted to a very watered-down, keep-away style that doesn't feel like VF. I've got more frustrated with bad connections than I'm willing to put up with, so I'm sending back my arcade stick and I'm not going to invest more time into it. It's a shame because I really enjoyed some matches, especially the ones against Gutti, but it's going to frustrate me too much overall. Best of luck old VF bros!

It's not just you guys. That darksydephil guy, went through that same problem 2 weeks in a row, when he was playing online with Shun Di. Shun Di's [1][+][K] move would either not come out, or he would get [2][+][K] instead. He literally complained about it, in every VF5 US livestream he did.

That confirms it. If you go back to my original post on this topic. Mentioned the lag affecting button presses. So this really is a thing smh.

It becomes more harder to play with the lags the more you advance in rank.

I would like it if Sega will tell us if they have plans on improving or not the netplay, as it is now i fail to see how the game will last long (outside of Japan) with its actual online infrastructure.

I'm starting to see those issues too. FS definitely had better online. There were times on fs ps3 where i would have good connections even on a 1 bar from a player in Korea.

There were times in FS where I had a router with no ethernet and I still had good connections with alot of players on ps3 too. Like FS was actually absorbing if nothing else

    This is... not good

I'm starting to notice this more too. Its like at least with other games like soul calibur 6, the delay is at least consistent. The game will tell you 5 4 3 2 1 bar etc. Its possible to adapt.

With vf it feels like there are some matches you can adapt while others you can't because there's some uneven distribution of lag
