ok im gonna be a bitter asshole because that topics been shot to death.

no online complaints = no friends

DOAU actually made me quit xbox live, because i couldnt stand the 14 year olds screaming about lag and cheapness just about every game. Online isnt always a good thing. Go out get some fresh air, socialize with real people. It'll do better for you in the long run.

Seriously, playing VF and then hanging out doing fun things is one of the important aspects of enjoying VF.

With the beatings I'm taking lately, sometimes doing stuff OTHER than VF is more fun!

Unrelated to VF5, but is the PS3 backwards compatible yet?

I mean "yet" because I've heard that it wasn't, though that could have been a plant by a 360-propagandist. (I ask as I play to sell my Gamecube/PS2s/Rare games/mem-cards/furniture/manga/organs/textbooks on craigslist in order to buy a PS3)

PS3 has always been backwards compatible with PS1 and PS2. In the latest firmware update (1.50) Sony fixed some image issues with PS2 games running in non-progressive (interlaced) mode.

In fact, PS3 backwards compatibility is much better than the 360's, because it's legacy (done by actual hardware) rather than emulation.

PS3 is fully (well, near fully) backwards compatible (BC). It is about 95%-98% BC with all PS1 and PS2 games. With the new firmware update, PS2 games finally look they're supposed to, maybe even better (before, the PS3 would have PS2 games with extra jaggies and the like).

    Smarter AI vs Online Play

I argued that a evolving or dynamic AI might be better than adding online play to VF 5 two years ago. The PS3 never got that online play. It would be nice to have dynamic or evolving AI in quest mode (in absence of online play) The XBOX 360
did get online. Is online everything it was made out to be?

Now that Online for VF is available, some of the reasons I preferred having better AI, smarter, adaptable, or even customizable AI over an Online feature still stands.

    1) Lots of times there's nobody online that is worth playing.

    2) Lag does affect matches

    3) Timing conflicts West Coast 3 hour differential from East
coast. So players do miss each other.

    4) If you don't have an active microphone, UR just playin
a screen name, and you don't know that UR not playin an
    AI

    5) Online is not a substitution for live competition and
in some cases does not even rise to the level of competiting
    against the AI

B4 we had online many VFDC folks was saying that online capability was the most important thing to add to VF. I'm on the PS3 with no online and I still believe that having smarter, adaptable, possibly evolving AI IMHO is a higher priority than
    adding online [IMG]

The AI is always there, that's not the case with good online competition. The AI doesn't suffer from lag, that's not the case from online play. A very high quality AI can better prepare you for person-to-person matches. If you're playin scrubs online you're not getting any better. [IMG]

I have a PS3 and If I had the choice today, knowing now what I know about VF and online play, I rather have a high quality adaptable possibly evolving AI than the ability to do online matches. [IMG]

Sadly, PS3 owners have neither, a good AI nor Online play.

Re: Smarter AI vs Online Play

We agree here. But think about it, if you could design your ideal AI it would in the long run be better than online feature.

The best most adaptable AI design could even imitate online play
and without microphones or cameras you would never know.

Money was tight a few months ago, so I sold my PS3. But I kept my
copy of VF5&Hori stick because I knew I'd rebuy another one.

Re: Smarter AI vs Online Play

Playing against people that learn and adjust is best and even the best AI can get stale some even if it learns how to fight you as it goes along. Even then it will still do some things that make it stand out regardless of how hard it gets that I can exploit because it is still just an AI not a living person. I sold my copy on PS3 to get SF4 and I don't miss it since I have it on 360 as well.

I will never sell my PS3 either, I have the original 60 gig PS3 and I use it as my PS2 as well the new ones don't have that feature.
