woo, they make El Blaze really cool with those throws. That stage has awesome music.

His down attack does a ton of damage, now Vanessa's has become a lot weaker, I think.

In the Kage vs Akira clip, in 1:38, Kage offensive dodge kick to Akira's gut nails the side crumple.

Yea! I wonder what the circumstances of it are... is the Akira in the middle of a big move ? It's kind of strange, it looks like he just got in a lucky hit ... ...

Interesting how the Aoi player uses the OM to get around to Kage's back at the end of round 3...too bad he didn't use the OM attack.

So...is the [6][6][P]+[K]+[G] grunt gonna take some of the nasty out of the move? It still seems to be working plenty in the clips I've seen so maybe not, huh? Just a thought.

I have to go on record saying that adding the "yeeaaarrgghh!@#!" cry to the [6][6][P]+[K]+[G] was the best thing AM2 could have done to the move! They've effectively doubled the mental damage caused by this attack! I'm lovin' it! /versus/images/graemlins/lol.gif

So I don't think the grunt is taking away the nasty.. since everyone is just so much more vocal now it's not really standing out. And you pretty much hear it the same time as you see it, so if you can't react fast enough to the visual queue, I'm not sure how much the audio queue is going to help?

I do wonder what [6][6][K]+[G] sounds like though? /versus/images/graemlins/wink.gif

When you absolutely, positively need a knockdown....

    "yeeaaarrgghh!@#!"

Looks like you've got some new kage voice effects to master there. Actually William and I were talking upon watching a batch with Jacky replays and it turns out he has nailed the new Jacky "YEAH!". I'm so jealous. Mine always either sounds like the old one or is waayyy too deep. Crap.

Have you guys noticed that in the muddy water stage Akira's white gi gets wet and darkened as the game progresses?? Wow! Also noticed the same effect with Pai's blue costume.

Just watched some of the new clips. Some things I noticed:

    - What's up with Aoi?? if the first elbow in [6][P][P] staggers the second will float for a [2][K][P][P] combo. Yikes. She's also got a new two hit move, the first of which kinda looks like [3_][P] but anyway the second hit will knock down for a [2][P] > double kick combo for a cool 60-70 points! Ouch Aoi looks strong in VF5! But the second [P] in [6][P][P] is at least high now.

    - OK, Kage looks like he can be really flashy in VF5. Love his new stance. TFT seems to be definitely weakened. So far I saw knee > [P] > [2][P]+[K] > flipkick as the best combo, which should take about 70-72 points damage. The RO potential of TFT seems to also have been reduced, but we'll see. DPK is also weakened--in a previous Aoi vs Kage combo it didn't look as if it took more than 60 points. [3][P] is also weakened with the canned follow-up [P] which hits high. Basically, if Kage just does [P] he cannot combo; he must do the two hit [3][P][P] (I'm guessing without delay) to combo which means that if the opponent blocks the first slap he/she can easily duck and punish the second. Otherwise, Kage looks just as strong. [4][K]+[G] hit throw looks like it takes too much damage right now and his double punch swipe attack looks really useful.

    - There is a bridge in the raft stage!!! In the Kage vs Lion stage, you start to see the bridge by the 5th round and pass under it at the very end. Hope AM2 would move the start of the raft nearer to the bridge so that on average it'll pass by the end of the third round (which nearly guarantees that players will see the bridge)...so perhaps 40 seconds * 3 rounds = 2 minutes into the match. Love the stage music.

    - Jeffry is so big in the game and looks really powerful with all his new canned strings. Can't wait to do some RAPAGE!!

    - I LOVE the throw-attack neutral push-off thing. Substantially reduces the risk of throwing in a reverse nitaku situation.

    - All the girls in the game look so skinny.

Overall, my surface-level impression of VF5 has definitely improved by leaps and bounds from the first Wolf vs Lion match in that dead Dural stage. I do like most of the stages and the music has exceeded initial expectations. While the system doesn't seem to have changed much from VF4 (at least not to the same degree as with previous sequels), there are enough individual character moves and style changes to merit the number 5...so far, at least.

    Couple things I noticed:

Akira's [6][6]+[P]+[K] no longer needs to hit/guard on first hit to chain 2nd hit. I liked the commitment it required in FT, hope they change it back.

Maybe they changed the 2nd hit of Akira's [K]+[G],[P]'s animation to a High double handed strike? Or is this a new move?

Kage's [K]+[G], [P]'s first hit now pushes the oppt away (counter?) like Pai's [3]+[K],[P].

Jacky has a Jumping Knee again? (goojacky vs pai wmv)

Anyway, for fun I wanted to make a guess at which stages belonged to which characters, see how close we can get

    Stages I recall seeing:

Great Wall: I'm gonna say Lau, Great Wall has meant Lau for a long time.

Sunny Chinese Flavored stage w/ Walls, Rocks, Flowers & Building in backgound: Pai

    Muddy canyon w/ Statues: Eileen

    River & Raft: Shun

    Library: Lion

Misty waterfall Temple in the sky: Lei Fei

    Island: Jeffry

    Snowy Mountain: Wolf

Wrestling Arena w/ Crowd: El Blaze

    Aurora: Sarah

    City: Jacky

    Jungle w/ Waterfalls: Vanessa

    Rooftop Party: Brad

Outside Japanese Temple w/ Kimono Ladies: Aoi

    Cherry Blossom Garden: Kage

Inside Japanese Temple w/ Statues: Akira (I hope /versus/images/graemlins/smile.gif ) Seems like at the moment the statues are just textures, I'm really hoping they take the time to model them.

Ruined Dojo w/ broken walls & tatami mats (seen in Akira/El Blaze clip): I'm gonna guess Goh? I thought Akira until I saw the indoor temple. Judo practice always takes place on Tatami, and the indoor temple has a wooden floor, which is typical of Akira's stages. The destroyed aspect also seems to fit Goh.

That's 17, one for each character /versus/images/graemlins/laugh.gif which leaves the coloseum, must be Dural.

while some of the stages are bland, the rest more than make up for it, and the music really is kicking ass. The game has nice atmosphere now, much more than the cheesy techno feel of Evo. I must say though, it seems like more of an update to 4 w/ a complete graphic overhaul than a truly new game. IMO, there's nothing I've YET seen that takes 3-D fighting to a new place.
