Hey, you can’t blame me for not having a go. /versus/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

I think with the implementation of the DM/OM system and the greater emphasis on movement and evasion, every character will need a crescent/half-circular or some other sort of attack (Akira) that turns the opponent to capitalise on side hits.

It’s up to the stronger players to lead the way with the use of the new moves so that the average players will take notice and apply them themselves. Everyone wants to win, so until frame data is released it’ll be awhile till we consistently see new techniques and strats in clips.

NICE

Edit: I did notice that too though, a lot of characters seem to be 'stealing' eachother's moves. Like Vane now has a move that looks like Jeff's. Or Eileen having some similar moves to Lion. But in the end, you all are gonna play it... bitch all you want =p

Edit No. 2: Shit that hit throw is powerful.

Edit No 3: Look at the Lau vs. Sarah vid, at 46 seconds. Why did Lau's sweep not connect ?

My only beef with the kick is how quick it is. Especially compared to Goh's.

[9][P]+[G]: 19 frames, full circular, 50 points damage
[4][K]+[G] > [4][P]+[G]: 22 frames, half-circular, 30-40 points damage

The only thing about the latter is that it probably takes too much damage on hit, but other than that it seems like a fair move.

Actually it looks like 25-30 points on block to me.

I was just recalling how Sarah also has a hit throw that works on guard: FL: [3][K]+[G], [P]+[G] - The catch was that the kick that lead into it was linear and as slow as molasses. You’d probably get caught out by it once or twice but it was avoidable on reaction. At least in EVO where it was just FL: [K]+[G], [P]+[G].

My point is that Sarah’s FL: [3][K]+[G] is 35 frames on execution while Kage’s [4][K]+[G] isn’t initiated from a stance where he can’t block and, as already pointed out, is 13 frames faster at 22 for its execution and does 30 dmg (admittedly via FT data) while Sarah’s starter is only 20 dmg.

The actual hit throw for Sarah was 40 dmg and if that’s the same Kage gets for his hit throw then that string needs to be tweaked yesterday.

Still, it’s all really speculation at this point. It looks great though. Next thing you know Sega will give him a triple hitting flying kick like Hayabusa from DOA… /versus/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

while I agree w/ the sentiments about the characters all becoming the same (I feel Aoi is the biggest victim for me, she's become a poke character, instead of a character that focuses on defense & turning attacks against the attacker); it has to be said that Goh isn't the only character w/ a guard into hit throw:

Jeffry Threat Stance [P] -> [6]+[P]+[G] works only on guard

Sarah has the one from Flamingo that works on Hit/Guard (flamingo [K]+[G] -> [P]+[G]?)

Also, Kage's kick is High isn't it? There's your balance right there.

From his new stance, I've seen Kage do 3 things that I can remember:

the Hit Throw [4]+[K]+[G] (which seems like it can be done in and out of stance)

the double low sweeps

the lunging punch that seems to KD, maybe counter only?

The sweeps have pretty short range from what I've seen, so if he's close, [2]+[G] will beat the kick and the sweeps, if the Punch doesn't KD on normal, it's a pretty safe bet (if you just wanna sit there). At range, seems like the best option is to Dodge, since you're out of range of the sweeps and the kick and punch don't seem circular.

Keenan, from what I've gathered reading your posts in various threads it seems like the only things you care about at the core are that VF5 exists (no matter how good or bad it will be) and that there's a system people can buy that will play it (no matter who makes that and/or how much it will cost); so we should all be wearing the face shown in your avitar.

I don't think people here are "bitching" per se. I think that if you care about something, and it's growth or evolution, you show that by discussing said things w/ a critical eye. I don't think the fact that we're all going to play VF5 anyway means people shouldn't critically examine things about the game; or even that the biggest critics of the game would be hypocrites by then enjoying it. VF came into existance because someone looked at Street Fighter critically and decided that it could be better, or head in a different direction, by taking a big leap. Critical thinking is good.

BTW anyone notice that it's Hakushon Lau in that clip? Maybe Shizuoka Ochai no Kai is coming back!

also, Sarah guarded Lau's 46[P] after he guarded the Dragon Cannon.

He could have just been a bit slow. It's a very strict timing hit.

What ever happened to the context-specific low punches? I haven't been keeping an eye out for them in the vids and they haven't been mentioned at all since the first location test or so. Are they still in?

Sorry to give that impression. I don't believe that at all.

However I think people need to step back and look at what's in front of them.

VF4 is a very good game. From what I've seen and played of VF5, it looks like it's on track to be a very good game. Not only graphically, but more importantly, it introduces many new intricasies to the VF formula. I'm very optimistic that VF5 will also prove itself.

Moreover, there are many, many horrible games out there. MANY! I'm confident that VF5 will not be one of them.

I am not against looking at things critically. The comment that I made was more in jest than anything else. However, I trust SEGA to make a compelling, enjoyable game. If something is deserving, balance the critisim with appreciation, I guess that's kind of my philosophy.

Thanks a lot! I think all but two or something are new, and I'm very glad to see new Eileen clips /versus/images/graemlins/laugh.gif Did anyone else notice the change in Lions opening "It's showtime!"? I wonder if it's a change to the basic one or if it's something you can earn.

I'm still trying to decide if it's more or less flamboyant than the original.
Considering the new similarity to this, though, I'm leaning toward the former.

Just FYI, the Lion in the Lion vs. Aoi clip (4th down) and Lion vs. Eileen (second to last) is none other than your friend and mine, Chibita! /versus/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Now I just need to figure out how to save these. Stupid embedded media

No sweat. If you use Internet Explorer, the clips will be saved to your "Temporary Internet Folder". Simply copy them from there and Volla!

Why am I so great?! /versus/images/graemlins/tongue.gif
