Did you guys notice that none of the scenes with male characters vs female characters had any instance where the guy actually hit the girl. Pai and Vanessa got thrown but nothing else landed on any of the female characters.

I guess SEGA doesn't want to have men punching women in the face in any of their trailers. The guys wail on each other but the women never really get hit at all.

    What happened to "trust L_A"???

Why doesn't SEGA do some of the same normal bitch-moves, on Japan this time, and only release the console version in the West -- if they're THAT worried about arcade profits? Getting money from the Western world is just extra from the relatively tiny audience of the Japanese arcade scene. The US and Europe are HUGE untapped markets for any new VF game at this point.

Saying that Sonic is free money is acknowledging that the Sonic franchise itself is popular. I personally think the VF series is popular too and getting people to play the game is as easy as letting them know it exists and what it looks like. I think people will come around this time and pick it up if were to be released on consoles.

Many gaming sites (including a new article on IGN) have VF5 securely withing their top 10-20 XBOX360 games of all time, I agree. SEGA just has to let gamers know that the VF series is where it's at for the highest quality fighting game experience...

There's probably thousands of 360 games so being in the top 20 of all time, including all of them, is no small feat. VF5 is that good. FS will be better. That makes me think it's possible we will see it. Even getting that huge nod from gaming critics helps your company and paints your development team and your game in a very, very positive light...

If you are known for quality in game development, that goes a looong way.

i think i had a friend tell me that VF5 was IGN's #6 best X360 game of all time. I might be wrong, but if that's true, that's good word to all the non-VF players on that ridiculously popular site

edit: whoops, my bad, it was number 21. http://xbox360.ign.com/articles/916/916362p5.html

    this was in '08 btw

^ This is the newer one I was talking about... It's from late November 09, so not that long ago.

This is the VF5 part: http://xbox360.ign.com/articles/104/1045042p7.html

VF5 was ranked 19th out of all 360 games ever released, including XBLA games as well. That's really high up on the list...

Man, if this is true and he's backing off of his earlier (virtual) guarantee, that sucks. Maybe he spoke too soon and with more confidence than was wise at that point.

I really hope he's not retracting what was said before.

I will feel personally let down by SEGA if this is true. After we all did what we could with a 500+ page petition asking for the game, it would be an absolute insult for us to never get another VF game, ever.

I think us not seeing VF5:FS, after writing a petition asking for it -- that was apparently enough to elicit a response from SEGA -- would mean there is no more VF in the USA now, or going forward. I see withholding the next iteration of VF from all console users and all players in the West, after 3+ years, as a complete abandonment of the Western fans and of the series in general.

It's very telling for them to make that shortsighted decision at this point, and it's a decision that will destroy the series for good in the US and Europe (or basically anywhere other than the tiny Japanese arcade only market)... Compared to the gamers in the rest of the entire world, the Japanese arcade scene is as tiny of an audience as it gets.

Capcom makes SEGA look like a bunch of myopic idiots when they have seriously good communication with the fans AND give them what they're asking for. MVC3 is already getting serious hype from players and gaming media. Compare that to the fact that most people probably don't know that VF5:FS even exists... SEGA really might know how to make games and nothing else. Marketing and fan communication seems like something they just aren't able to do, at all, and it hurts them so much more than they even realize.

LA said he thought the announcement would come at the latest by TGS in September. I don't think he was expecting anything at E3.

Fuudo also said he first learned VF by playing VF4Evo on console (which had the best practice mode, tutorial and AI of probably any fighter). He also had a very good practice partner.

Somehow i could not imagine Akira doing a forward roll - i always assumed he'd break the floor with this shoulder and end up getting stuck upside down [IMG]

Sega is adding Twitter compatability to VF5 Final Showdown, according to the new blog on the official site.

    http://www.virtuafighter.jp/dk_67.html

Basically, you register your Twitter account to your VF.net account, and whenever you play, your Twitter account will automatically update to tell people where you are playing and with what character. They're touting this as an arcade first, and it probably is since I've never heard of any other game using this kind of feature.

Not only will it tell people where you are playing, but it will also update depending on certain conditions. The blog mentions that if you unlock a special item in the game, your Twitter will be updated, or if you go on an impressive win streak.

There are other details about what you can do but since I'm at work it'll have to wait for a few hours. :p

Pardon for the slight off-topic but the Twitter feature reminded me of this video:
    <object width="560" height="340"> <param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/rBRM-vlvRqo"></param> <param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param> <embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/rBRM-vlvRqo" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="560" height="340"> </embed></object>
    Check at 2:25!

Oh yes Xbox Live has Twitter support... hmmm

In addition to the twitter announcement...

Sega announced a location test will be happening "soon", so it'll probably be sometime in July. If I were to take a guess, I'd say the weekend of July 17th, since that's a 3 day holiday.

The Twitter option would be a nice feature to have for a console version or should I dare say a console and pc version
