Jeffhan, major brownie pionts for saving this.

I hope what Van does to Blaze is in the Final game for every char, it would work like escaping a ground throw. (Not actually likely to be in the final game).

Wow Lau reminded me of one of those Kungfu masters in those old Chinese movies he looks pretty much like them too.

Yeah most of it looked like an action/martial arts film. The dodges, blocks, parries and hit reactions looked more natural and realistic then regular VF and I like the look of that block stagger from Lei too. Hope it can look something like that in the final version or maybe a future VF.

I hate to be Mr Pessimistic Party-pooper Pants but... I don't think that there will be any future VF games coming to consoles.

I'm thinking about it from their business perspective.
Just how much money will Sega have to invest in order to bring this game to consoles and market it?
How much do they stand to gain?
    Lose?
Can this company afford another setback?

Most of Sega's games are tried and true to the winning formula. Hell, they don't even have to spend as much on marketing as they would have to spend on marketing for VF.
VF is not as stablished outside of Japan as SF and Tekken are and even those guys had to spend money on marketing.

Games like Sonic market themselves, most of the time they make Sega money and have very low risk. VF's a gamble that companies like Microsoft and Sony can afford to take. But not Sega. Yes, they have been slowly building back up and yes they have the money to invest, but the big question is: why should they?
Is the payoff going to be worth it?
Realistically, the answer is no. VF5FS will not be as big of a payoff as SF4 or T6 or any of their tried-and-true-formula games.

Right now VF makes Sega money right where it's at: at the arcades.
And that's where it will stay. Making Sega money at arcades. If it ain't broke, why fix it?

I WANT VF to come out on consoles... but I KNOW it ain't going to happen until Sega sells or shares console rights with another company like Sony or MS.

i hope it does come to consoles judging from the trailers you can truly punish people now for serious damage not just the 4 or 5 hit combos we have now however that being said it looks a bit tekkenish with the long juggles (say it aint so)

I believe Xbox360/PS3 can stay until 2013, and FS is the final version of VF5. Unless SEGA likes to be an asshole, I can't find any reason without launching FS on consoles.

Wait, so VF5FS will have character shape shifting? [IMG]

Thanks for the find Jeffahn. It's an awesome trailer and wow, the motion capture is stunning! Jeffry trying to maul Eileen out of nowhere was darn funny and that Akira/Goh segment was awesome. That makes what, the second time in a trailer that Goh's got his ass kicked? [IMG] - Goh should really take a note from the Yakuza series and use weapons next time!

But damn, I really want to see some more gameplay of FS! Should only be a couple more weeks, right, AM2?... right?!

I told myself I wouldn't watch the trailer until Sega put it back up on their channel again but then I was like "F*ck it" and watched it anyway. God damn! Watching these trailers only makes it more painful waiting for word on the eventual console port. Lei Fei really is a punk constantly harassing Lau like that. I hope he beats down that bald monk before he kicks the bucket in VF6.

By the time VF6 comes out who knows how many arcade operators will actually be able to afford it. Arcades are slowly on their way out in Japan. That might force Sega's hand a bit when it comes to arcade exclusivity of the franchise.

Ken Tao, who owns Arcade Infinity, said that arcades in Japan will be gone in ten years. Surely the VF franchise will outlast Japanese arcades (despite Yu Suzuki saying that 'five is enough for VF'). Maybe then, when arcades are mostly dead, Sega will put the game on consoles and charge a monthly fee for online play or costumes or whatever, like an MMO model. Maybe a Dreamcast 2? Who knows...we just wait and see if arcades die out in Japan like they did in the states.
Sega is focusing a ton of its resources on porting Dreamcast games for the PSN and XBL. DLC ports from older consoles are big money makers and have relatively little cost compared to a AAA title made from scratch. If Sega starts raking in the cash from the incoming swarm of Dreamcast games then they should be able to absorb a few minimal profit AAA games. Unless they are being greedy of course.
Because Sega feels that putting VF on consoles hurts arcade profits. Arcade profits are the lifeblood of the VF franchise. Sega is scared of releasing VF on consoles and losing money on arcades. Meanwhile Capcom was very close to not releasing SSFIV in arcades because they felt that not enough arcade operators would purchase the upgrade and that it wouldn't be worth it. That's why Capcom went ahead and built SSFIV for the consoles before they were sure of an arcade port. Both approaches are very different and both seem to be working for their respective brands. Sega makes a good amount of money in Japan's arcades from the VF faithful. Capcom brings in a huge amount of money on console sales of SFIV and treats the arcade as a secondary source of income.

If Tao's prediction comes true, and arcades really do die off in Japan, then VF will have no choice but to have a larger presence on consoles if it wants to exist. Either that or AM2 retires the franchise and their arcade division which is a real, though hopefully small, possibility.

There may be some truth to these comments regarding the way "mainstream" players (who never bought VF or any fighting game in the first place) might react, but its nothing that can't be easily overcome with more of the exciting trailers that show the game has changed.

More importantly it has been quite some time since the last VF5 release on 360, and the PS3 version even longer with even fewer features.

It's definitely come a long way since then and its a very easy campaign to talk it up.
