Virtua Fighter 5 Final Showdown

What a day that will be. If we get a release date for a console port I'll be making damn sure nothing is happening on that day.

I was told by someone, who still works for Sega of Japan by the way, years ago, that VF4: Final Tuned was getting a Playstation 2 release. He 'guaranteed' it, saying that a port was 'on the drawing board' at SoJ. Then a few months later he says that the PS2 port never got further than the drawing board. LOL. But 'don't give up', he tells me that Sega of Japan is thinking of letting Sega of Europe port VF4:FT to the PSP. PSP? How am I supposed to play VF on that thing? Of course no one gets the chance to try it anyways, because 4:FT PSP version is never started either (or maybe it was started then canceled, anyone remember how far it got?). And we all know how far VF5R got off the drawing board for a console port. Sega barely even considered it. Maybe they were waiting for 5FS? Hopefully.

Then again, we got VF5 Vanilla (with the 360 version being the good one), no 5R, and 5FS is a possibility. The Tekken community didn't get T6 Vanilla but got 6BR (though the port isn't the best). BlazBlue's console release dates by region have been at the worst times (they've missed being an official game at EVO twice now and the EU release was long delayed from what I remember). And now that community has to wait for BB:CS. And Capcom is taking damn near forever for the arcade and console versions to match for SFIV/SSFIV. Though for the most part Capcom has been on fire with promoting and maintaining interest in SFIV/SSFIV. And now of course Capcom explodes once again with MvC3 being announced.

What's funny is that if two years ago you had said "MvC3 or VF5R, which one is more likely to get a console release?" probably everyone would have said VF5R. Now it's a tossup. MvC3 has a hard release date (April 2011!) for consoles before VF5:FS is even confirmed for them. Most fighting game companies seem not know how to handle timing arcade and console releases to please the fans. But of all of the companies, Sega is by far the worst.

Instead of releasing VF5R in between SFIV and SSFIV, a period of downtime between massive Capcom FG launches, where VF wouldn't have been so overshadowed, they do nothing. And now VF5:FS, if rumors of a Winter release are true, will be sandwiched between SSFIV and MvC3.

I really hope Sega doesn't screw up the console release of 5FS but I have almost zero hope for that happening based on the past.

 

They arent gonna be sandwiching anything. The game will either come out this christmas or by march next year. Thats all there is to it. Wait till the announcement and then I can reply with the typical "I told you so".
There are many games that only get to the drawing board but I assure you FS is past that for the console side of things.

Hey don't hate on Wii fighters. TvC gave my wii some much needed love (also Monster Hunter Tri).

That said, I'd be pissed if it was a Wii exclusive. . . yeah like that would EVER happen.

I'm really pessimistic on this, especially given the news of Sega layoffs lately.

REGARDLESS of whether news next week (if it happens) talks about the prospects of a console release, I just want to know about the actual game. Looks like they plan to flip the script a lot, but I'm really eager to see in what way.

(Also I believe L_A 97.9 percent) Given everything else in the industry right now, the time that has elapsed between VF5 Ver. C for XBox and the release of this, along with all the potentially new content, it just makes sense this would hit consoles. Even with crazy SEGA behind the wheel, it just makes sense.

I just hope this and XIII don't come out at the same time- it will be Highlander if that happens for me, or I'll break my wrists from double hardcore training.
