Maybe think of it as an exhibition tournament where anyone is allowed to compete and possibly get into some money. I doubt there will be 16 players from japan so that means quite a few non pro players will get paid.

New VF game at evo on a live stream with 100k people watching? To me it sounds like pretty good support for the game we love.

Sega could have not released the game all together and there would have been no VF EVO event to complain about. [IMG]

This. I just hope the hype can carry to next year's EVO where people will have more time with it under the belt. It'd be cool to video tape the play from this year's EVO and compare it next year's EVO as well.

Damn, what a totally awesome thing to do, Sega!

Sounds like this is going to be something VFDC is going to be talking about for years and years [IMG] .

I'm not gonna be able to afford spending the $$$ (€€€) to go Las Vegas [IMG] . Totally bummed out by that, but at least I'll be able to play FS by that time!

Hopefully FS will be at EVO 2013. If it is, I'll do my best to make it out to that.

Good luck and have fun to all those that will be attending this!

I said the same thing, Krye. If VF is there next year I'll be there.

      Suicide pact?

Whatever with this fear of Jp VF players!!! Some of you cats are talking like you're straight up scrubs or something... And even if that's the case, don't go up in that tourney with a losing mindset...

That's like if Rocky just said "fuck it!!!" and threw in the towel because Ivan Drago was too top tier for his ass. That's like Cloud just deciding not to save the world because Sephiroth was too dope, and he was a punk ass clone of some dead guy... Go Parappa tha Rappa and "believe" or something!!! Do a slow clap, or play "Momma Said Knock You Out", I don't care... Just get in there and make a damn EVO moment!!!

You don't hear about them crying about Top MvC3 American players, Top French SCV players, top Korean TTT2 players, or top MK players from Jersey or Chicago??? They just go in there and tear shit up... And we should do the same... I bet if they had a TimeKillers tournament and a sponsored player had to play that game and win a gangload of money, I know for a fact they're gonna be slaughtering without question, regardless of whether or not they had the game, or if they did have it, but didn't have enough time to play it... Fuck that!!! It's all or nothing!!!

Shit, we got em in both Melty Blood (a good game that they have in arcade for God knows how long), and in BlazBlue (dude crushed the comp with a low tier character at that!!!). Who's to say this can't happen with FS??? I mean damn, learn to outsmart them or something at least...

If it's not about money, then stop trippin' and hop off the whambulance...

When you start thinking about that type of stuff, fun can (will) just get eliminated altogether... That's what's wrong with 85-95% of the FGC right now... People are playing to get dough, and if the game isn't "tourney worthy", they stop playing it, unless they see some "big wig" playing the game, then it might get a little buzz and then fall off...

I'm mad I can't be there though, but best believe I will be hitting EVO up in 2K13...

Sega didn't have to do this, real talk... They could've kept that moment of silence going even longer, and we would've been still pushing out petitions and protesting and "occupying"... But that's not the case, so please be grateful, show your ability to adapt, and have fun...

This is a video of me playing in the 2009 bay area cup vs Napoleon (National VF4 champion) after playing VF5R for 3 weeks. Before that I had never touched the game and these guys had all been playing R for over 8 months. So if we get FS three weeks before evo, there is no reason some of us cant put on a good show. Right?

I think you all are taking things the wrong way from everyone who seems to have problem with competing in a tournament that will have Japanese players.

No one is scared of the Japanese players. It's all about being on even ground. It's funny that only REAL competitive people see a problem with this tournament and all the scrubs or individuals who play VF on a social level think this is SOOO cool. Yay let's go to EVO and get beat up by the Japanese players.

If you are already going to EVO then the announcent of this tournament is a big bonus for you. If you are going to EVO from a social perspective where you just want to hangout with people, watch the matches live or just be a part of the vibe then this is also a big bonus to you. But if you are someone like me, Denkai, Glory, SDS, etc this is not a bonus to us. Competitive people go to tournaments based on the assumption that they can WIN! Also if that tournent is in another region you then factor in other variables such as prizes or cash to be won versus your cost to see if the tournament is even worth your time.

I AM A COMPETITIVE PLAYER... Always have been and always will be. I don't go to tournents ( other than SoCal) to socialize. I go because I want to win and that comes first. I'm being referred to as bitch because I don't want to support Sega and VF at EVO. Why should I? To attend EVO it will cost $500 for a ticket to Las Vegas then roughly another $500+ to spilt between hotel room, food, registration fees, light travel around the city and to the airport. Sega and the VF community is asking me and all other competitive players to fork over $1,000 dollars to compete in a game that A) I've never played & B) is not released. Sure the change of me recovering some of my finances are there, bit again from a competitive mindset it's just not good deal.

I don't care about losing to Japanese players, because I've been to Japan before and lost hundreds of dollars a day to them in the past. What I do care about is how I look losing or playing the game and overall like any of you even though you are to weak minded to say it... I do care about winning as well! If I'm going to EVO I want to go with the mind set that I can win. Please no scrub post that it's possible because it's not and I don't care about it will be cool to hang out with the star players. I'veet Chibita before and I've stood over the shoulders of Fuudo watching him own people when he was coming up in VF4.

I can assure you that on the stream with the exception of Myke, Gerald and maybe 2-3 more people playing the level of matches will look absolutely terrible and uninteresting making VF once again look like a stupid game all while the Japanese players rape us. Guaranteed people watch EVO who thought about picking up this game will say things like " oh now I remember why I never played this game... It looks stupid. "

All of you who think this announcement at this time is such a great idea go on enjoy your time at EVO making VF continue to look dull and boring and full of nothing interesting but cock punches. Sega should have waited till 2013 to run this tournament. What they should have done is make the game a part of the road to EVO for 2013. That the game would get a lot of exposure and people would get to see live on streams how the community and players are growing. Then you would be able to hype up the whole can USA players with just 1 year of experience have what it takes to compete with the Japanese players and take them down.

I don't know how many people will attend EVO for FS, but I can assure the majority of the players will be scrubs. I wouldn't be surprised if EVO asked players to join for free because they won't have enough players to fill brackets.

Bash me if you all like I don't give a fuck. It's the truth and you all are to stupid to see it.

There's going to be like what? 3 or 4 Japanese players in this? Is for fun. Don't bash people for going to an event for meeting other VF'ers and enjoying a great time in Vegas. You think is stupid for folks spending money on this, and calling them not real "competitor's" on this, but is stupid for having an iPhone on AT&T when you could have it rocking on the Boost Network for 55$ a month with unlimited data and calling, with no reception problem, because is running on Sprint.

Regardless how much time anybody had with this game, people still will get scrape by Denkai, Flash, Adam and CidKid. But whatever, sounds somebody who can't handle 2P's....Oh wait...Can't wait for the tears and salt on XBOXLIVE Party chat, so epic. Congrats people, Tekken is finally and VF baby!

Rod, dont think for a second that everyone that enters the sf4 tourney looks like a pro. They dont. there are plenty of scrubs in that game but you never get to see them because they get weeded out before its time for the big screen. How would that be any different for VF?

You gotta look at the bigger picture. There is no bigger platform than Evo to advertise fighting games and I've yet to see another FG event where over 100k people are watching the stream. If people watch some interesting gameplay or even some cool movements like sarahs flamingo attacks or shun rolling on the ground in the top 8 on stream, there is a good chance some of them will be interested to give the game a try. Sega then gets the opportunity to sell some extra copies of the game and DLC which in turn makes it all of a sudden not such a big risk for them to bring out the next console version.

As for being on even ground, unless we have the same environment as japan (150 yosuke or better level players), we will never be on even ground. The only possible way this can change is to get more people interested which increases the possibility of finding that one in a thousand player like gentleman thief who brings everyone's level up.

As brisal said, I too am impressed you wrote all that on your iPhone. [IMG]

I agree with most of Rod's post but if no one makes the effort to go then we're just harming the chances for future VF events as big as this one. We've been begging for this for years so even if we don't have much of a chance at Evo I still think we should make the effort, beats whining from our keyboards [IMG]

VF should be at Evo next year. It should be there every year.

Even if it's not an official game next year we VF players should show up and setup our own tourney within the hall. This is what many other game communities have done in the past and present.

VF5 could have made a better impact if the community had stepped up after '07. I don't want see the same thing happen all over again. The past two months have showed me people will play VF if its presented to them even if they are not hardcore like members of this site.

im gonna repost what i said on shoutbox since im lazy: [IMG]

[x] Sudden_Death: i think it all comes down to the incentive, that you MIGHT get your money back from the trip. cause for some people, meeting and playing top japanese players its somethign they already did...so...theres not a NEW incentive...na mean?

[x] Sudden_Death: thankfully not many people think like this and ARE supporting the game! so I thank the people who either sacrifce it for the love of the game (super hardcore to the extreme!) or just plain rich (not really rich...but you got money :p)

      LOLOL!!!!!!

supporting the game is not the problem. you best believe i support VF. however, it's not easy for some of us to just spend $500-700, hop on a plane, and go to a tournament and pretty much expect not get 1st place. AND THAT'S JUST THE PLANE TICKET! hahaha anybody who thinks we can stand up to the japanese at any given time is fucking delusional. let's say we get the console version in June. that gives us only 1 month to play the game. you can play this game for 24 hours every day for that entire month, and guarantee you won't even come close.

i'm shopping for plane tickets now. if i do go, it should be pretty exciting to play against the scrubs! [IMG]

I think it's pretty arrogant for anyone to plan their travel arrangements assuming they are going to get first place. Even Koedo who imo is the best VF player of all time lost to Chibita in KS6.

Right I got that part. Everyone's mindset should be to win.

My point is that now that Sega has listened to our voice and are making an effort to get behind the game, it's our job to show them they aren't wasting their time by showing up to evo or at least watching the stream if we can't make it. Getting bent out of shape about not being able to beat itazan in a tourney seems pretty pointless at this point in time. We need to learn how to crawl before we walk. [IMG]
