I'm hoping this is arcade perfect, there has never been a perfect port of a vf, in respect to either it's the gameplay, or in recent incarnations the graphics.

Speaking of that, just how fucking good would it be to have a re-released port of VF3?

No missing polys, no shonky joint blending, perfectly projected shadows, no slowdown, accurate lighting, proper VS play............ahh, heaven!

AM2 could even do proper skinning on the models, bump the poly count up on, and you'd have a better-than-perfect port.

Aye....and if I recall correctly it was the first and only arcade port using the fabled WinCE OS. They used it to get networked games up and running quickly, but didn't even launch an online service in the West to support it!

    Doh, typical Sega.

indeed the saturn version of vf2 was a joke

it had a higher then arcade res (700+ by 570+)
i mean that would make it rasterline inacurate!!! esp on a ntsc tv!

it ran to fast, with those damn small charicters!

i know there are to western versions, one blue disc one black, one of them had the fantastic bug of kages pounce never hitting!!!

sega rally was another joke conversion, the stages was actually thinner, on vs mode!

i hope sega make the ps2 version based on the arcade, wonder if they will have the diferent propertys of the test version in it as well!!!!!!

Yea, it was all so rubbish wasn't it? Did you know, btw, the Saturn port of VF2 had less polygons than the Model 2 arcade version? Yea, seriously.....what a joke eh?!

And yea, Sega Rally port was shit too. They never even released a full hydrolic sit-down cabinet for the Saturn port. Can you believe that?

Geez, we all should've just thrown out Saturns in the bin, such was the ineptness of Sega.

The main complaint about the Saturn version was it's NOTICABLE gameplay related differences. Graphical differences were expected, but since we've now a have a playable (hopefully?) and graphically superior port coming soon, why not jump in joy? The Saturn version sucked ok?

    It really did suck. Really.

Worst part about it though? We all played VF Kids with maniac fervor and when we went back to the saturn port of VF2 all we could see were these little tiny heads. It became impossible to truthfully recognize whether the heads were actually smaller than they should be or if we were just in SD mode.

    bah.

Jesus....Well I pity the fact you had such a bad time with VF2 Saturn, coz at the time I thought it was incredible. I think if you put the game in historical context is was a fantastic port. It also sold the Saturn in Japan at launch. I guess all those Japanese VF fans back then were blind idiots eh?

It’s kind of like comparing the original PSX port of Ridge Racer to the System 22 arcade version. Yes, there were severe gameplay and technical deficiencies, but the heart and sole of the game was intact….and it absolutely rocked.

Man, am I attacking you personally here? Are you the Saturn VF2 port posting under an alias? And no, the japanese weren't idiots (nor were the western players who bought the saturn entirely for VF1 and VF2), they just really liked the idea of playing VF2 at home.

It wasn't a fantastic port. I had tons of fun playing hour after mindless hour on Kbcat's Saturn but I gotta tell you the port sucked. This was proven when time and time again the hardcore group of players who had logged countless hours playing hyper competitively would travel from all over and we would go straight to the arcade; even though we had the saturn and VF2 and two arcade perfect custom sticks. I hosted a VFkids weekend tournament and the first two nights everyone went out to the arcade for VF2...Motorcity Jacky even had to bring his own stool to be comfortable.

Simply put, everyone knew the Saturn port was ass. Graphical and Gameplay differences--hugely apparant differences--disqualified it from being a "fantastic" port. It was merely, "okay".

But so what? PS2 version is coming out and hopefully they can work out all the issues that plagued their first attempt. If not, I'll continue to lug out the arcade board and hook that puppy up.

Let´s just hope they also put in some worthwhile one player mode as well. I know this whole site is bursting with elitist pissheads who only think VF is ever going to be worth playing in two player mode, against semi-gods who eat, sleep and shit VF 24/7.

Doesn´t it make you feel more expert to shit on Saturn VF2, because most of it rocked anyway? Hell, people still play Sega Rally too! Anyone really know how they screwed Sat VF2 so totally, or are they just entertaining their empty heads? Only thing I noticed was Kages pounce, which didn´t matter because he had [6][6][K] with better properties anyway. I mean that I still need PS2 VF2, but I have no issue against the great Saturn conversion, which I own in mint condition. I just get pissed after this unfare smashing of what probably still is the best 32bit title ever made. With knobs on.

Saturn VF2 had a great (if guite ascetic by modern standards) expert mode which really should be somehow included to the new version, with some bonuses on (ie VF4/ Evo) and great AI intact. I have always been one of those woodheads who enjoy fooling around with AI:s. Not because I´m stupid and mediocre player, but because it is challengive and downright different form of playing. Whoring is a part of it but balancing between a whore and style demon is what makes a good AI is my cup of tea. I´m also sure that the only way to popularise VF in west beside the never-going-to-happen network game is the better one player experience. I want that great and original and top arcade copy to my TV, but I also want a solid one player too. In case any of you were wondering, there is also actually some social context to one player fighting as well. I really want it all, not just part of it. Thanks.
