I was at SBO and watched all of VF... Chibita's team got beat pretty badly by Joseph's team but all of their matches were close, even if the score indicated otherwise.

The finals on the other hand were a pretty big blowout. I don't think Anaguma's team won a single round in the grand finals, and the last player (Chutaro, a Jean player) got perfected in the last round. :X

I'll have a pretty big write-up on SBO and the other events on my site sometime this week.

Super Battle Opera = OCV Opera.

How many times have teams in games been OCV'd at SBO? I'm not just talking about VF either but every game seems to have one or two matches were one person wins all three matches for the team events.

Yeah, I hear he OCV'd 3 teams with Q. I also hear he entered from last chance qualifier and got as far as semifinals with a 2-person team. Mad respect for this man.

Ranked #1-3 for ALL characters in SFIII: Third Strike. Kuroda is a SF legend. Pretty much every top 3S player says "I learned everything from Kuroda".

Did this guy ever come to the states to play in Evo?

According to the results thread he's never been to EVO or at least he's never placed, but him going to EVO and being out of the top is unrealistic. That being said he regularly destroys competition at Japanese tournaments ranging from small turnouts to nationals like SBO. He put out a DVD set of him playing as various characters (one DVD per character for all but three characters) known simply as the 'Kuroda DVDs'. He basically plays as a single character for an entire day and puts every match on a DVD and he did it with most of the 3S cast. You can get the DVDs at just a single shop in Japan that sells them (no online orders, must buy in person).

Kuroda is also notorious for hating his matches being put online and said he'd pull the DVDs from sales if people start uploading his matches from them. It's easily instant-ban if you upload or link a video from his DVDs at SRK. But that being said stuff from the Cooperation Cups or SBOs from the past have found their way onto YouTube so at least you can see how amazing he is.

it's like the opponents have a hard time even winning one round. A side question.. what is the regulation rounds for third strike? I see some of the clips on youtube being best out of five, and some best out of three.

Thanks for the insight on Kuroda. Just amazing his game.

ST, 3S, SFIV, GG, BB, most of the 2D fighters are all two rounds (or best of three) for tournament rules. The reason you see some of those games with a three round (or best of five) settings in some videos is simply because many arcade operators switch the round settings for hours when the machines are set to freeplay.

If games are single match, meaning winner pays X coins, then less rounds means more money, so arcade operators rarely have best of five during pay-per-play. But for freeplay, where you pay an entrance to the arcade and it's unlimited play, they usually set the machines on best of five at request of players or sometimes just as a thing to do.

The Kuroda DVDs are actually best of five rounds even though 3S is a SF game where best of three is a mainstay. 2D = best of three, 3D = best of five, and then some games just have their own rules (like KOF, CvS, Marvel).

so who does he consider his best character? I just watched him use Ken, Q, Sean, and Elena and they are all flawless in many ways.

there are DVDs of him floating around (I had em) playing pretty much every character (only 1 or 2 are missing. Every dvd was him schooling dudes with a single character. There are like 17 or 18 dvds in total.

*edit* I see someone else already mentioned the DVDs

On pretty much every tier list for 3S, Sean is rated F-tier, meaning no one plays him ever, not even in casuals...except for Kuroda who has the best Sean in the world and can hang with top players like MOV. What's funny is that Sean was one of the better characters in SFIII: Second Impact from what I remember. The second video is my favorite, Kuroda red parries a point blank attack, and then goes directly into 720 SUPER.

Elena should have roasted Sean. Kuroda or not. Anyway 2I Seans normals(almost if not all if i can recall) connected with super which is crazy. Back in the day I mained Sean for the first 2 games. Seeing him gimped horrendously in 3S sucked.

A fine example of how its done despite the meter building. I actually think 2I was a dope game. It just never a good showing, seeing as it came out around A3 and all those other random fighting games that came out from capcom.

    Another fine example.
