Got a question about this Kage vs. Jean vid.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8iot5SGLMm0

What is going on starting at 1:16? I don't know squat about Jean so I couldn't figure out if the Kage player was just messing up or if this is some wonky stuff.
Edit: He also does it again at 2:08. Never seen that before.

I don't understand the full science behind it. But Jeans 66p gives him +18.

So if it hits in a side turned situation it becomes +24. Because of the move properties it keeps causing a stun rather than just a knock-down. I haven't seen a video with the frame data on it. The timing seems to be very tight.

Maybe Kamaage can explain how it works?

Thanks man. I couldn't figure out if he was neutral and getting stunned over and over, or if he was trying to do something each time he got hit and kept eating it.

    EDIT
As an addendum to the above, check out this vid.

It's the same Jean player fighting a Wolf and it looks like he infinites him using that move in the second round. Sorry if everybody already knew about this. It's the first I've seen it.

After some research, I've found some answers about the Jean 66P sidehit thing. The name for this trick is called Tsukamoto Style, I guess after the person who found it. Basically, because of the way the frames work once you've been sideturned, if you continue holding Guard while in the stun, you will still get hit due to the frame advantage. What you need to do is let go of Guard and then hit it again, from what I've read. Jean only has about 3 frames to get the next 66P in too, so it's not like it's a really easy thing to do.

For characters that have RAW-like moves (Wolf, Taka, Lion, etc.), Tsukamoto Style is actually useless because all of them can just use their RAW move and get out of it. Similarly, if any character has a mid-punch sabaki, they can use that to get out of it.

I assume it's a bug in VF5R, and hopefully we won't see anything similiar in FS.
According to the video, did that Wolf have any chance to use RAW on side turn? Does mid-sabaki work on side turn as well??

I guess if you use a RAW move or sabaki, your character "teleports" from sideturned to facing the opponent allowing them to work.

    There's no teleporting.

It's all to do with the fact that you're side turned and understanding what this means to your character.

When side turned, you cannot guard instantly. In VF5 this frame penalty before you could guard was 3 frames, but in VF5R it could vary to be greater than 3 frames depending on some factors (which I won't go into as it's not relevant).

However, when you're side turned you can attack instantly. That is, there is no frame penalty. Sabakis, reversals, RAWs, etc are considered as "attacks", and any attack from a Side Turned position is the same as if it were from a frontal position (until AM2 decides to introduce the concept of Side Turned Attacks). Therefore, an attack from Side Turned will negate the 3 frame penalty you would otherwise incur if you tried to guard from that position.

As Reno mentioned, it's this 3 frame guard (penalty) window which makes the repeated [6][6][P] from Jean a guaranteed sequence.

Great yomi by the Lion player, he must have ducked 3 throws in the last round. Also great yomi by the Ak to use 3PKG to sabaki the Lions low punch at the end of round 2.

A 5-round game with no floats. Seriously, all damage comes from throws and hit-throws. ; biggest combo is [6] [P] [K] used once by each player [IMG]
