There are ruby and orb items as well as diamond and emerald items.

As for the item thing, you can get a complete list on the Japanese item list.

Someone linked it in a post about a fox mask here.

This is all copied and pasted from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Virtua_Fighter_5#Gameplay ... I know those nutty Wikipedians tend to have a very poor understanding of fighting games, but this stuff is pretty straight-forward.

Different items are available in the XBOX 360 port of the game in Quest mode, as it is based upon Version C, however there are several copies with glitches and bugs including:

- Vanessa as a character being corrupted, causing the game to crash. Known as "The Vanessa Bug"
- Characters falling through walls or scenery, resulting in a ring out in an impossible situation, again with the game freezing and crashing, stating that the disc is unreadable
- Sarah's Flamingo stance reverts to standard moves without cancellation (online bug)
- Slowdown and framerate bugs including Eileen's monkey t-shirt alternative attire appearing as original, whereas the character had been edited beforehand.

A patch is due out to sort through these mistakes, however Sega have stated that you are able to return the game to the place you bought it for a new copy.

Does anyone know what the story/status is on the patching or replacement? Is this ancient news by now, or is this stuff that's only recently come to light?

I have seen one major glitch since picking up this game.

I was playing quest mode, I was Wolf and I was fighting Shun.

It was on the dojo area with high walls.

At one point I had him in the corner and was pressuring him only to find myself thrown through the actual wall.

He couldn't hit me and I couldn't hit him I took a few steps back, bounced off of the ground and the announcer said "RING OUT!"

It's only happened that once.

I haven't had any Sarah Flamingo problems online, unless it was through lag so excessive that it barely registered my inputs anyway.

I haven't encountered ANY bugs yet, and it's the first time I heard of an AM-2 game, such as VF5, that it may have these bugs what I sincerely doubt. I don't think that different copies of VF5 Xbox 360 (version C) exist. Who has written this wiki-article?

Yeah, I figured if you guys--the core VF community in the primary country for 360 use--haven't heard about this stuff, it must be old news. Either a bullshit hoax or maybe just the first prints or something... does anyone recall having to download a patch the first time they played online?

---

I have another stupid question.

Does anyone know why there are two different covers going around? Same art, different title printing.

One says:
"Virtua
Fighter 5"

The other says:
"Virtua
Fighter 5
ONLINE"

Is one the bugged and one the fixed version? Is one actually the PAL or Japanese region case? USA/Canada residents, what does your copy say on it?

I swear I've found pictures of real boxes, I swear I'm not crazy, I just can't seem to find any to show you right now...

the ps3 version and the xbox version are identical as far as cover art goes, except the word "ONLINE" on the xbox version

(which is actually bigger than the word "virtua" on the box)

maybe that's it?

I was playing quest mode the other day and got a Sega balloon at W:445, L:45. I fought 10 item matches at the next arcade and came back to the menu screen and saw another item balloon at W:455, L:45. So, it looks like you can get balloons on 5's as well as 1 3 and 7. Someone should check out 9, it could be just any odd number.

It works on all numbers, there's just a better chance of it showing up with certain numbers. 7 seems to work the best, It's there for me mos of the time if I exit on 7.

Also, about glitches... I've not come across any yet, in any of the modes.

I actually also think that there is a specific chance that it works, no matter which digit is in the end, as long as the Win/Loss ratio is equal.

Will change the balloon tips FAQ section accordingly.

Is there any way to do custom soundtrack for VF5? ie music starts at the beginning of every round, not just a playlist that overrides the in game music. Apparently there's suppose to be a custom soundtrack button but I can't find it. Thanks.

Ash_Kaiser Marly you no good jabroni I make you humble... Bronze Supporter

The custom soundtrack feature is on every 360 game. The problem is that like you say, it's basically a music player that plays music over the in-game stuff, and it doesn't work in the way that you want - i.e. you get a different track for the character select, then VS screen, then fight, then VS again, repeat.

The only way I can see you getting a true custom soundtrack is by flashing your 360 DVD drive, making a copy of the disc, hoping that the music on the disc comes in handy ADX/AFS files, extracting the music then inserting your own, replacing the old ADX/AFS files with the new ones, burning the disc and then playing it. However, there's a large possibility that it won't work, and it's way too much effort for something so trivial.

Thanks for the answer Ash_Kaiser. Looks like my dream of playing vf to jpop has been dashed.
