Well Anyways SEGA can't be rboke. The have a New Game coming out call "Mad World" that there hoping put them in the green a little. VF5:R will be on a system plain and system. Why would they make a arcade port and not release it on platforms to make more Funds? This game i the same as EVO. 30$ release trust me.

The way I see it, you came here and repeatedly posted that based on your experience with Sega and your insights as a veteran VFers and a Journalist, mainly based on the way Sega handled FT, that you were sure that R will not make it to console and people should start playing SF2 and/or wait for SF4, like you're doing, because sega will disappoint us.

Then I challenged you because I see the fallacy in your logic, R is nothing like FT, it's more like VF4E and therefore it will get a console release.

Then I challenge you to put your money where your mouth is, and you come back saying that somebody should first check with Sega US if they are not going to announce something.

You are wasted as a journalist, you should go into politics, because the way you handled this discussion clearly shows that you can't stand for what you just posted.

At least post an Errata Corrige and admit you where wrong to post that rubbish about FT setting the trend for the future VF releases.

Okay Iron Man and Hulk had more gross sales than VF5.

But did they generate more profit? Doesn't Sega (Or somebody) have to pay for licensing the Iron Man and Hulk intellectual property? While each installment of VF offers something new, Sega doesn't start from scratch and I think they own the intellectual property of the fighters right?

From a strickly software development point of view, it seems like even if the gross sales of VF are not as high as other games, the profit on VF should be higher because AM2 is able to reuse alot of stuff doing the development cycle right?

Also I think there is a symbiotic relationship between VF in the states and VF in the Japanese arcades. Its probably complicated to explain properly but virtuafighter.com, the other VF players around the world all add to the mystique of VF and provide additional impetus for the Japanese to play VF in the arcades. This is a very scary (tricky) point to make but... The virtuafighter.com community, and the other VF players around the world outside of Japan although seemingly unnecessary are actually the Yin to Japanese player's Yang. Both are necessary for success of VF.

Zero Chan, I usually agree with your posts, but this time, I don't think that Beast Rider is a safer bet for Sega than VF5 R, because of the long term implications of selling VF5:R outside of
Japan on the consoles. There are no long term implication for Beast Rider, Golden AXE, Iron Man, or Hulk. On the other hand we will be celebrating the 20th anniversary of VF in a few years.

Let me [attempt to add] one more subtle point. Although VF is not the most popular selling fighting game it is the best. Every other game aspires to jump the bar that VF sets. VF helps Namco to keep pushing to get better and the old Tecmo (DOA) people to keep pushing. Everytime one of these new Soul Calibur, DOA, Tekken games comes out, it ultimately causes an increase in VF sales (thingz that make you go hmmm...)

Here's the paradox, and parable /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/laugh.gif

If VF ever stops coming to the consoles, then Soul Calibur, DOA, and Tekken will loose their Raison d'etre. Consequently the
fighting game industry outside of Japan around the world would fold. If the fighting genre outside of Japan folds then the
days of the fighting genre inside of Japanese arcades would be numbered.

For this reason, even though the US market and the rest of the world have to play second fiddle to Japanese arcades, they are necessary evils (if nothing else) and Sega has to put out console versions because the console versions and the virtuafighter.com com community indirectly contribute to the success of VF in the Japanese arcades. We are the Yin to the Japanese Yang.

I know this sound like a riddle, wrapped in a mystery inside an enigma, but, one needs a reflection in order to appreciate the mirror. Console ports of VF are ultimately necessary for the success of VF in the arcades /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/laugh.gif

Now B4 the flames start... Just remember, I'm an old monk often
given to crazy talk and ideas. I've lost many thousands of VF matches. Some of those matches have taken their toll and I'm now tired and hungry too. Its my job on virtuafighter.com to talk shit. It's all that this old monk has left /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/cry.gif

I am a fan of VF but lol @ it outselling and raising the bar for every fighter.

Wait till SFIV drops.

SFII raised the bar for fighters way back when then failed to continue to do so all that much after alpha3.

VF raised the bar for 3D fighting games (as their completely different beasts) and it continued to raise the bar every iteration, in terms of fighting engine. No other 3D fighting game can say that about itself.

lol @ you signing up from srk just to post this.

VF outsold and raised the bar in Japanese arcades. Not that that shit even really matters over on this side of the earth though hahahah

I dont know if this means that sf4 is going to raise the bar for fighters but if it does, then I disagree. The height of complexity for street fighter was the 3 series and 4 is more of a jump back to the more fundamental street fighter game with the addition of the focus. Capcom simplified the game to make it more accessible for old schoolers as well as new players but is hardly introducing anything revolutionary to fighting games, especially 3d fighting games.

I'm glad you are a fan of VF though. Did you submit a comment to segaJP? /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif

If we're already busy making bold statements here, let me add these two:
VF was the last revolution fighting games had, everything after it has only been evolution.

The greatest invention in fighting games in the last ten years was the successful/failed evade mechanic from VF.

L_A (expanded on your post really):
It seems they merely replaced parries with focus attacks, which are cancellable, allowing for parry-like actions for advanced players (setup the opponent to commit to a big attack, initiate focus attack, absorb blow, cancel focus and punish accordingly seems to me like a thing a novice won't be able to do, whereas parrying in 3S is way more easy to wrap your head around).

Right now I feel the difference between advanced and novice players will only grow with SF4. At best it will just stay the same. They've sort of merged SF2's gameplay with SF3's and hope the two types of players (casual and competitive) will keep out of each other's way. This is what happened with MvC2 btw, very popular for two completely different groups of players for extremely different reasons.

Just the way I see it right now, I might be hallucinating.

Honestly, I don't think VF5R is happening now, and even if it does, it will be too late to do anything.

Best hope would be VF6 in about 3-4 years.

By then, Japanese arcades should be suffering worse, so odds of a console release are much greater. (I think Japanese arcades are going to suffer the same fate as American arcades in the next few years- just with a time lag of about 15 years)

I don't know the state of the Japanese Arcades, but from what I heard, and read, they're doing fine, not super, but fine. I think a few members here could weigh in on this matter.

Faster version of EX is little harsh man. Give it a chance and it might just end up a slightly retarded cousin of Third Strike. Same ol' DBS.

Now this thread turned into a SFIV Bash...Awesome! I'm with SDS, I'm a fighting game junkie.

20. I just hope they make a SFIV expansion where you can actually sidestep. Until then its just shallow fan service to me. ONO is underestimating the public, trying to make it as simple as possible. Even Mortal Kombat Deception moved into the thrird dimension with sidesteps. Hell, I think even Mortal K 4 had sidesteps. Can't remember , I threw out my N64 years ago.

Street Fighter will take over 3-d fighters the day Virtua Fighter goes 2-d and takes over 2-d fighters.
