I know this is probably basic and easy to understand but save before entering tournaments and if you get knocked out use the ps button and quit the game>come back. The same can be said about abusing the ballon, save when your stats are close to 7 on both ends (say one from) and if the balloon doesn't pop up, quit the game and come back and do it again until it arrives. Doing this you can quit one step before on the 10itemstreak you get from the balloon also and continuesly reap rewards.

Btw, after a while all of your items you can get from the ballon will be filled and the only way to get items will be through tourneys. Tourneys appear at fixed intervalls (certain number of wins+losses) so save continuesly until you get a tournament. Then, if it's not an item tourney, go back to your last save through the psbutton>quit or something and save again when you're 1 from where you got the tourney the last time - you will get it again.

Now just loop and do that last match until you get an item tourney and not a shitty emblem/gold one as the type of tournament that appears is randomized.

Do you actually have to lose matches for the next tournament to show?

No, you'll just be playing matches and it flashes up a message saying that a tournament has started at an arcade somewhere and do you want to break your streak to enter.

Hmm 100% items, and no Skeleton Biker Helmet - I'm getting teary-eyed.

I'm pretty sure that if you get beaten by an opponent and then challenge them again, there is a high chance that it will be an item battle. Probably to lower the chances of winnning an item (if they beat you once, they may beat you again).

Item battles also seem more likely if you challenge a far higher ranked opponent (if you are 3rd dan, challenge a 9th dan for example).

Bit mean of AM2 to give item battles when it thinks you will lose them. These 'theories' may not be 100% true, but it's happened so many times that I can almost predict when ITEM BATTLE will appear on the screen.

I am so confused. I'm told there's no online mode, and Quest mode works fine without the internet plugged in, so how did you find someone in the game at all?

Can you "beat" the quest mode? I was wondering if there was a final tourney at the Events Square that would essentially end the game like in Arcade mode.

My friend was talking about this huge final tourney in Evo that he finished to beat the game with a few characters.

The computer just varies the matches if you keep losing. In VF4 evo if you kept losing, they would offer mission matches or item matches. I think the CPU just kind of rolls the dice if you rematch.

If you want to keep your record clean, its quicker to quit the match before you lose and not save the data, then reload the saved data rather than quitting VF5 and restarting it with the PS button.
