Is there any reason to doubt? I'm just wondering.. I don't know if Sega has pulled something like that before. The console hardware is superior to the arcade one this time. They both use Geforce GPU's, so porting should be fairly smooth.

Also, as I'm typing this, I'm looking at some other in-game visuals for another recently announced title for the console (FFXIII). It's looking superior to VF5.

Man, I don't beleive this! What have SEGA got against the 360? Why on earth will they not release VF5 on it?

Does it not have the power? The online capabilities? The fanbase? Or are they just thinking about asia?

I'm baffled at why they won't release it on both the consoles. I mean, surley they can't just be thinking about competing with Tekken, can they?

I'm very dissapointed about this decision from SEGA! /versus/images/graemlins/tear.gif /versus/images/graemlins/tear.gif

Question: What have Sega got against 360?
Answer: it is not selling well in Japan.

Question: Why will Sega not release VF5 on 360?
Answer: VF is not too popular in the US and Europe. It would be bad business to release a game where it can not be purchased by its major fanbase only to release it somewhere that it is not too popular.

Question: Does it not have the power?
Answer: The 360 has more than enough power.

Question: Does it not have online capabilities
Answer: Most likely irrelevant. No one expect VF5 to offer online play.

Question: Does it it not have the fanbase
Answer: Bingo, it does not have the fanbase.

Question: Are they just thinking about Asia?
Answer: Sega is thinking about Asia first.

Question: Surley they can't just be thinking about competing with Tekken, can they?
Answer: Of course they are. As I understand it, they kick the crap out of Tekken in Japan already. But it isn't just Tekken they are competing with.

I got a question for you? How many copies of DOA4 do you think have sold in Japan?

I smell bullshit from this press release. Couple of points:

      1) Given the similar architecture it would be financially viable for Sega to port to 360 in addition to PS3.

      2) I sinply cannot fathom why they wouldn't include online play. The fact that Street Fighter Turbo 2 can be succesfully played online implies VF could.

Wow, this line of reasoning has never come up before . . .

Oh, wait, that was 3 years ago, maybe the speed of light
      has increased in the meantime.

Seriously, I'd be willing to bet that SFII Turbo for the xbox360 (assuming thats what you're talking about) has its gameplay locked to 30fps, regardless of screen refresh rates. The same thing was necessary for DOA to be playable online. However, in VF's case where 1/60th matters to the gameplay == won't be playable online.

Somewhat back on topic, this announcement means I can pretty much ignore anything going on with xbox360 or hd-dvd . . . sony will own my next-gen gaming / movie dollars. Time to break out the ol' homebuilt joystick and warm up again.

Nobody's saying the online play will be perfect, but it should be present. It would allow for practice sessions and training with players from across the world - even if lag stopped those bouts being competative.

Have you played a first person shooter on line and looked at your ping? At the absolute best you're getting a consistent 20-30ms ping. Occasionally it drops as low as 10ms, but only occasionally. in VF, a whole frame is only ~16.7ms - ie. most of the time online you'd be lagging by at least one frame, not to mention occasional jumps to 50-60ms latency. Since VF moves are often tweaked by only a couple of frames in the name of balance, adding a couple of frames lag would screw up the game at the highest levels.

However... I'm not that good and I would actually like to see an online mode. Even so, in the name of purity I sympathise if the creators want to leave out online play completely, and won't hold it against them at all. I'll just buy another online fighting game "for fun".

Finally, regarding the PS3 exclusive, it wouldn't surprise me if it's just friendly rivalry, i.e. the Japs vs US. Nothing wrong with that, even if it is annoying. (For once in my life, I've decided that I'd actually rather back M$, even though I'll probably end up with a PS3 just to play VF5 /versus/images/graemlins/tongue.gif.) The same thing happened with loads of western classics on the XBox, like Thief: Deadly Shadows and Halo - it's a shame that PS2 owners didn't get a chance to benefit from these games and, what a surprise, american games running on an american console.

      I don't think so...
Those screens are from the PS3 version. Look at the aliasing!
    9. UmonDaisuke
      UmonDaisuke
Seems like the same amount of aliasing as the arcade screens actually.

For the guys complaining about the exclusion of online play, try a 2D or 3D fighter online. Even a game as simple as MK, which has offline lags during some animations, lags horribly. Like Hopkins and others said, an online mode would be a novelty at best.

Ever since Sega left the console market PS has been exclusive to VF series...i did hope it would also be on Xbox, but, with dismal sales in Japan, it's not a huge surprise. Thank you for breaking this news.

Whoa...VF is still king of visuals. =)

Also interesting to note are the segments in the middle of the clip showing various successful OM side options (throws, combos, attacks). Clearly this is where AM2 thinks the big gameplay innovation will occur. I hope they're right...

Fans of Virtua Fighter will be happy to know that Sega is planning to have a VF5 setup at their booth for E3, although we suspect that it will be one of the arcade test versions that are currently being used in Japan to help balance the game. Because the arcade iteration hasn't been finalised, we can confirm that the PS3 version of the game will definitely not be at the show.

Awwww CRAP I should've gone to E3. The lucky SOBs who get to play this game better write a lot about it.
