Learned the hard way about how abusable Kage's side step attack is this past weekend. One guy kept using it against me ridiculously often because it clashes with throws. Mwa~h? I thought the whole point of throws was to beat out SS. Bleh.

I know, I know, I can use a full circular or block the SS swipe. But it's still weird. If I land a low punch or elbow, I'm thinking nitaku. Kage can effectively "beat" both options with the SS swipe. Bleh.

Kage's not the only one who can. I remember that there was a section of the VF:evo training mode where it talks about using the side-step attack at small disadvantage to beat both attack AND throw. I can't remember the name of the exercise, but it's always a good idea to return to the training mode now and then /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif

Take a look at the frame information Training mode gives you (indirectly), and also try searching the forums for more info on the subject (I tried but I couldn't find anything, but maybe you'll have more luck). If you have a high enough advantage, you should be able to crush his attack from DM... and if you foresee the usage, just block and take your guaranteed retaliation!

Hi all. im newish to the boards, at least i hardly ever write anything but i just got my arse handed to me by kage and i need some advice. i use lau and goh. anyways kages new stance is an absolute bitch! Ive been told if im using Lau at the time i should be able to beat almost anything out with a well timed 1+k,k but it aint happening. I also heard OMP should work well and at a reasonable range it sort of does but at close range (after kages P,K etc) there just isnt the time. Anyone whos got any ideas....id appreciate it!

OMP should be done only on advantage -- so after getting hit by /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif you won't be so you shouldn't do it.

Against Kage's new stance, just alternate between three things:

    - DM to beat out his linear/half-circular attacks (mostly his back) and either attack or throw if successful

    - Crouch and guard to defeat his catch throw and low attacks; punish with a big launcher like Lau's /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/df.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif

    - Big launcher once in a while in case Kage tries to delay-attack

Tailor the frequency of each option above versus your opponent.

Thanks for the tips. ive read and heard about omp only being used on advantage but ive seen people using it all over the place recently. also i just checked kages move list above and it says that his double sweeps are half circular but im pretty sure that at least the first hit is full. most of my mates at the game center are complaining about this seemingly perfect 2-taku.
I mean I only ever see people going for the lunging chop/uppercut or the sweep kicks. anyway ill try DM to his back.
    cheers..

Sure, Kage has nitaku, but there are two things to keep in mind:

    1. He has to hit you and go into stance to earn that nitaku, so it's not like he gets it for free;

    2. When you guess correctly, you must punish him to the fullest extent so that in the long run you minimize his advantage from the above.

    TFT combos against lightweights.
Kage's TFT, which allows for a range of different combos of different forms, while tossing them high into the air. Let's look for ways to up the damage.

This issue, let's introduce light weight combos. First, from /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif, /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/df.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/df.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif, /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif, /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif will cause them to bounce. After this, against Aoi, Pai and Vanessa, holding forward on the lever and doing /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f_.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif will connect. Against Sarah and Eileen /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif will connect. It might take some time until you are consistent, but there aren't any real tricks to it, just input all ASAP. If you can do the /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif without sacrificing a frame, it will be more consistent.

Against Vanessa, if you change the /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif for /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/d.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif, you can still get /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f_.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif. If you don't feel confident with the former combo, or there isn't much life left, you can go for just /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif. It is easy to transition into okizeme, and against opponents who don't tech, a down attack is guaranteed. You should definitely practice this to master it.

    - Do your best to buffer /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif
    - If the opponent tech rolls, you will be put in a particularly disadvantaged situation.

    Going for ring outs.
Among the stages in this game, the ones to look out for are the half fenced ones. By the ring edge, there are various moves that you can use to get a ring out. In particular, Kage could be said to be well able to do this. Of the fast moves, /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/uf.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif and /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/d.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif and /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif (which avoids the opponents moves while attacking) - if you have a chance go for these. Also, even if not at the ring's edge, /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif if used to its fullest potential will let you drop your opponent on stages like these.

    - If blocked the opponent can retaliate, but near the ring's edge it does have its value. (referring to /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/uf.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif?)

    hi jerky

talking about erimaki's video, i uploaded them. no offense jerky but i dont understand why is it disugusting? i think he is a great player, pretty skilled(see from that mid kick reversal combo, and its not easy to do) and we need appreciate he uploaded those vids. i uploaded them cuz i find some of combos in his matches are pretty cool, and want to show it for the other pplz, for study purpose of course etc. if u found disgusting dont watch it then...

It's a figure of speech. Saying something is "disgusting" can be like saying something is "sick"...as in "Erimaki Kage is so good it makes me sick" or "Erimaki Kage is so talented it is disgusting". Layered on top of that you have the 3/4 lifebar combo that, while nice, is a tad sickening... look at what kage can do to me if I screw up . Beneath this all, you must remember that Jerky is a Jacky player & everytime Jacky tried a rising kick (cheap shot getting up!) after the first one in that vid, Jerky undoubtedly cringed. And that Jacky KEPT TRYING RISING KICKS! WTF! Nice vid...

I'm having trouble pulling off a combo, can anyone give me any tips on how to pull it off?

I've been trying to do TFT, knee, 66P+K, 46P+K,P ... I can't get the 66P+K to hit after the knee lol (N00b)...

    So I've been using, TFT, 66P+K, 66+P+K, 46P+K,P instead /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smirk.gif

Alright... Instead I just stuck with TFT, knee, P, 2P+K, 46P+KP instead lol...

Markman, I tried the combo you mentioned in your first post on Lei-Fei and it didn't work at all. It seems impossible to get that bounce after the knee, except MAYBE against light-weights. There are two combos that I make the most use of, though:

    TFT > 66P+K > 66P+K > P > 66P+K > 7K+G (thanks Shang)
    TFT > 336K > 3P+K > 46P+KP

    As far as ring-outs go, I think TFT > 2P+K > P > P > 66P+K > 46P+KP

if you're feeling ballsy, you can squeeze an extra P in there I think, but the thing is, most TFT combos can float the opponent that far. For me, this seemed to take them just a TAD further than the others, with or without the extra P. If anyone's got a better one, please post it!

btw, is anyone else a little upset about how they made 8P+K, an already useless move, even more useless? Even after successfully baiting a rising attack, the move launches Kage so high that the opponent is well recovered from the whiff by the time Kage starts his (useless) descent from the heavens. The only use i see for it is to follow a RO'd opponent with style.

Also: 3P+K (wall hit, stagger) > 6K (crumple) > 46P+KP (wall hits) > 623P+K (OTB) for some 94 points of damage is pretty amazing. The stagger can be struggled, but it's not easy, and if you catch your opponent with this they can kiss their moral goodbye.

And finally, did anyone notice how, in the Brady Strategy guide, they put "Real Ultimate Power" as the header for Kage's portion?

Hi. Starting today (+few games yesterday) I have an access to PS3+VF5. I would like to share some of my thoughts about VF5 and ask some questions.
First of all SIXAXIS sucks but thats a good thing - I will have to buy VSHG so I will learn how to play on a stick - finally... the thing is VSHG is out of stock on playasia com /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smirk.gif i hope it will be back soon...
Back to the game - throwing seems to be harder (sorry I'm not a frames type of player so do know if throws are harder due to frames difference ..), techrolling is very easy to break (when I techroll with KAGE they stop it with some simple moves ... like 4hit combo by AOI for example..), OM (I mean SS+P+K+G) is very easy to track by a lot of moves and here is my first question:
is it VF5 characteristic that SS+PKG is so traceable or is it just me doing it in a wrong time ? truly I was abusing it to learn how to properly use it... but come on it cant be so easy to stop /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smirk.gif for example PAI 3+K(or other I do not know sorry) was just killing me...
    And here are my questions:
What is KAGE the best option after SS+P+K+G,K ? is it 66P+K,P,2P+K,K or 6K+G or some other ?
What is the real difference between OM and DM I mean in term of using (and command... is OM a SSP+K+G and DM a SS+P+K? sorry I do not have VF5 at home /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/frown.gif )
Is it possible to do a combo: Shippuujin 6P,2P,3K,P,P ? I can hit with 2P but I'm getting low down attack instead of 3K.. is my timing wrong or is it impossible to do ?
I'm sorry for asking some basic stuff but I think we could "start" some more discussion about KAGE, if someone would like to answer me you can of course send me to search, or give some link but we can also start to discuss.

DM is like old evade just by press up or down, after DM u can press P+K, its old evade attack(in vf4).
OM is after DM then press P+K+G, can followed by P or K.(aka OMP and OMK)

well about when to use DM or OM, normally u use OMP or OMK when u at adv, its meaning less using it when u at disadv, cuz u may get thrown. i use OMK against rising sometimes too.

mind just go here and check out kod's post:
    http://virtuafighter.com/forums/ubbthreads.php/ubb/showflat/Number/157268/page/1#Post157268

about the new stance 6p combo, after the 2p u need roll ur stick from 2 to 3, instead let ur stick go back to neutral. then hit kpp, it will works. its like jacky's 33k,p,3kpk combo, old kage tft combo knee,4pk,3k etc etc...

Thx for your answer Ogi. I have read that topic linked by you.
However I still have some issues:
To do an OM you must do SS+PKG P or K so is SSPKG without P or K after it working as just SS or not ? I think not (after sth about 80 fights)
Also while reading vfdc I have noticed that sometimes people say " do DM and than OM" so it means I should only input SS without P+K and without P+K+G and than do full OM am I right ?

About that shippuujin 6P I have seen nice ending for it in one of your moves -> shpj. 6P,OMK,2P,66PK,7KG /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif but on Pai I hope it works for more characters /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/wink.gif

    Edit:
I have one more very "important" question /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif
Ogi could you please share some link to a Japanese Kage player blog or ask such a player or maybe you already know it:
what is the input for KAGE "toes step" ? /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif I mean it I was trying to do it via 874 413 etc but couldnt get it /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smirk.gif
If any of you guys know it please share that invaluable knowledge /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif
