VF5 in SoCal! March 29th - April 1st, 2007

zomg!!! i did not realize that this was going to be an all out event... want does socal need in order to prepare? should we start some kind of inventory sheet?

 

Hey Plague, I enjoyed the previous Socal tournament. This is your event, so I would be happy with whatever you decide to go with. It takes a lot of effort to put together an event like that and whoever does so gets my automatic respect and praise!

I do however prefer a team tournament than a single tournament. Here are my reasons why:

- Newer players have a better chance to enjoy the entire tournament versus getting eliminated early and simply watching others play

- You can still get a competitive fire when playing in a team, but I have seen individuals get too worked up / overstressed when on their own

- Teams are fun! It's great to cheer your teammates on and boo other teams. It can get personal when you're booing individuals

- No matter how efficient single tournaments are, team tournaments are always faster. We might even be able to fit in two team tournaments (geographic and random, or geographic and seeded)

If we do a team, I say Yosuke is by himself or paired up with totally new beginners. Or he's on my team. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif

 

I like team tournies more than individual ones, but I'm not good at all so I'd just bring my team down. =( Plus this might be my first VF5 experience.

 

Hey, thanks for the respect coupled with your thoughts on team battles. Hopefully there will be time at the tournament venue after the double-elimination to hold team battles there. If not, they can be held at my house Saturday night into Sunday morning. It would be awesome if you and Srider want to run them.

 

I agree Team Tourney after singles at venue or home. Srider runs it. Then Socal beats Nocal. Nice and easy Japanesee

If people are up for it, I can run it no problem. Would be so much fun if people can stick around for it.

Sounds like an awesome event. Just the prospect of non-stop VF not against the computer has me jazzed. I would really love to get down there for this, even though I'm shite compared to 99.9% of the attendees.

Gonna see if I can make some arrangements for this, and hopefully can post an ititerary asap.

 

Awesome that you're trying to make the trip. If it goes even half as well as last year, it will be worth it.

I can't wait. Who wants to be on my team? (Wait... this is a team tourney right?)

Oh and I should be able to provide transportation the Friday before the tournament. Sorry I can't provide housing. =/ My mom's apartment is pretty cramped already. Oh and as far as I know, ONT is also an international airport for all you out of the country players. And LAX owns ONT, so you can probably work a connecting flight from LAX to ONT if you really wanted to (as in part of your flight already, not an extra flight you'd have to pay for). A friend going to NY for school had to go from ONT to LAX first.

Oh and the transportation I provide is only from ONT to wherever you're staying or Plague's house.

Hey all - I'm actually gonna be in California for the first time from March 26th until April 3rd visiting a friend from college who lives in San Diego. I'm definitely interested in showing up for the singles tourney Saturday night. And if there's a team out there with an open spot let me know and I might show up to the team tourney as well. Looking forward to seeing all you guys again.
