TWP said something about a collective on their comments over there.

    What's that all about?

Their collective is full of bullshit logic and hivemind. I've been posting/lurking on the forum for years(2002), so I see it all the time. I don't want to blanket the whole forum or community over there, it's just mainly the loudest posters acting like this I think.

No one over there really cares about VF enough to actually play it. Instead it is either, trying to dismiss it as not as good as people say it is(so they don't play it), or just saying they'll play it(and never do).

Add to this the fact that, someone like Keits, who has control over the front page media, and just outright dismisses VF and VFDC in every article about VF that he can. What's on the front page of the forum has latest info that everyone falls for and believes, no matter what because some of it is true information(Capcom stuff) so it's a mix between credible articles, subtle full on opinionated unprofessional disses, and outright plagiarism(this new VF article). The whole VF thing is lame because he's going to continue to do it, and there's not enough of us over there to speak up about it to get it to change.

I remember what looked like the very FIRST news on FS and it was an article that in opinion, didn't favor FS, but it was from the perspective of someone that knows, plays, and understands VF. However, the article wasn't presented that way, it was presented on srk's front page to discourage players that would be interested in playing.

With these front page articles about VF, it just further stomps and kills off the VF community and possibility of players from SRK. Anyone with reading comprehension and an unclouded viewpoint can see what's happening, but Keits continues to get away with it. Keits even does it for Mortal Kombat.

Whether we want to believe it or not, SRK has a lot of control over the growth of communities it doesn't even care about. And it does that, but not caring about them. If someone on srk says they don't like a certain game, and can get others to believe them, they can effectively kill off the community for said game, atleast it on srk. And unfortunately srk is where most people will go to first, when it comes to fighting games. Those on srk in high places, should really have more influence over how the community treats games, instead of letting dudes like Keits media drive his opinion into destruct mode.

Well you have to remember that Capcom, Midway, SNK, Arcsys etc... actually, you know, reach out to these communities. I am not surprised that either site has games from above companies all over their front pages. If Sega made the same attempts other companies have then I am certain that would be somewhat of a priority for them to post updates. Also how often does VF news even come out?

    Just sayin...

SRK only Care about SRK. If your game do not directly or indirectly bring them money, or expand their fanbase, they look over you. It is clear when you look at their practices for what games should be at their tournaments. They do not care for the expansion of other communities, because you take potential players and money from them.

Yo this might be the very first time I've ever totally agreed with you.

Even with our discussions in the past over at DOAC about doa4 and such, whenever doa was brought up over on srk, it received the same treatment(indifference, both games are completely ignored in existence) that VF does now over there as well, and I found myself trying to defend some of the integrity of doa and I'm not even a huge fan of it.

It's pretty sad, when SRK has so much power in and over the fighting game community and misuse it, and it's biased and some members of the community hold too much clout with that mindset. It's kind of frightening.

I think its just because of the evo situation a few years back.

Exactly. This is why I feel communities like ours should not look up to srk as an example of what a fighting game community should be. They no longer are in it for the tournament aspect...the good game. At the end of the day, they only see numbers...Money and People. 95% of their community are wannabes and will be trapped in hive thinking until they start critically thinking about the games that are present to them.

    Personally I don't think it's that bad.

But for the record, I never got the impression SRK (as a site or even by a majority of its posters) dogged on Virtua Fighter.

I feel like they've more or less respected VF, but many wrote it off as "a very good technical fighter that I'm just not good at." Though some were good or are decent.

I played VF3tb with John Choi and he played a fun Pai. Alex Valle doesn't seem to have ever said anything bad about VF and even played it, but not much after 2 or 3 (though I think LA Akira always tries to get him in on VF).

But even if we bring it into the masses and maybe a "herd mentality" typical of forums... I've never gotten a feel of hate for VF. Maybe some people on Tekken Zaibatsu, but most serious players seem to be okay with VF.

That said... KoF used to get crapped on at SRK and still does because people will always complain about infinites (it's their right to), but I think KoF gets less respect on SRK than VF does. But KoF's status has been growing, especially after more fighting game players playing on MAME.

Guilty Gear seems to get respect though its community probably doesn't get as much respect (typically anime otaku crowd). Though GGXX was big it seems (I missed out during that time).

The game that really has had mud slung at them from SRK is Smash Bros. But even here, some people have dogged it (just not a ton like on SRK). I mean, Smash isn't really setup like a fighting game. But it's definitely a skillful competitive game in its own right.

So yeah, I've never felt that SRK was anti things that are not Capcom. But if they give Capcom special treatment, that's because it's a Street Fighter-centric community.

That's just my opinion though. I know it gets frustrating when you deal with the vocal minority who rag on a game you like, but I really think they are really in a minority on SRK.

Do we sometimes get a little ignored, sure... but it's not like we take it upon ourselves to post things non-VF.

SRK just happens to be really big because Street Fighter is very successful as a fighter in the US (the most successful) and some of their members have done a great job of really pushing that community forward much like Myke and many others (a huge list of names at different times before and since) have pushed the VF community forward.

Back to sourcing and what not... It should be attended to sooner... and it should have been done correctly... and I don't like it either. But I don't think we have to get prissy about it and start going off on the SRK community or even the whole staff at the moment...

But anyhow... about the FS Revision...

Smash Bros magically got alot of props once it was featured in Evo, so much so that it was dubbed "Marvel Jr". It actually wowwed a bunch of people and the scene started to grow quite a bit...

KoF did get smashed on heavily, but once people started playing the game, and saw that SF players can actually play it, people took to it a little... I mean what was stupid was that there were people bashing the game because of infinites, but those same retards play MvC2...

I will agree with the fact that SRK does have "some" respect for VF overall, but its one of those games that get written off because someone says "its too hard" and everyone else kinda falls in agreement, so no one has the balls to learn the system on their own... That, and you do have people that have "some" pull in the gaming media and they say a few things about the game that hurt the scene overall (Aris, Keits, etc...), which is strange because Keits plays other fighting games and they're not all Capcom games either... I mean if Melty Blood can get some love and more people to the scene, (and I'm not dogging the game, because I love it) we should be able to get the same treatment at this point... I'm surprised no one left SRK to come here because SF4 left a sour taste in their mouths... Someone prove me wrong...

Honestly, people really don't have a reason anymore to not get the game and play it... At the worst, you lose out on what $5... That's it... And the netcode is still better than SC4, T6, KOF98UM, and a few other games... But the one thing that kills me is people that say things like "VF's sound is still from 1992..." Umm, Morrigan's sprite is from 1994 and is still being used in 2000-something... The whole VS series has the same animations and same sounds with a few new moves added every so often... Get a standard punch blocked on 3S and tell me what that shit sounds like??? It sounds like Mokujin was the foley artist if you ask me... How long did it take til Tekken had characters reanimated??? I'd say T5DR is when shit was really starting to look somewhat different, and even then characters still had some cloned moves (no property change, dmg change, nothing)... Same sounds, same sparklies, same stair-stepping, wavedashing, mishima-dom...

Anyway, SRK is still "anti" everything not Capcom... They do put posts up about other games, and keep people updated, and there are some who are hyped about non-Capcom games (KoFXIII), but I always get the feeling that they only do that to "unite" people but with the hope that they can get them to play SF... I mean if they really wanted to "unite" the fighting game community, change the name for starters, or make another mega-site for fighting game enthusiasts to unite and converse about whatever game...
