VF5 Final Showdown Jeffry Discussion/Observations

I see your point, and I'm assuming that's why he could be considered "low tier" now, but in my eyes the game is still new enough that new setups, mixups or whatever could be found with him. I haven't really seen anyone try something different other than during the playtest period before the game was released on arcades.

It's not a bug and you also can do back crouching dash too.
These little delay can make TKOD easier to use.

Jeffry still has [K][+][G] though doesn't he? That move will work wonders with the new system of CH'ing evaders.

Abare KNEE (now with a purpose to beat throws) must also still deal decent damage on hit.

    Long [2][P] range.

Pretty much everyone has 12f [P] now and Jeffry has, what, 2 14f mids? You can't really call Jeff slow anymore tbh.

Jeff is heavyweight too. It may not make that much of a difference in FS but the difference is still there, right?

Low throw to beat fuzzy guard.

    New options from threat stance.

A big hitting full circular ([K][+][G]) and low throws alone open up different possibilities that, say, Akira cannot accomplish to the same effect.

I'm not calling anything yet but I don't really ever see Jeff being bottom tier.

Also, Jeff has a mid kick that is -8 on block and leads to an 80 damage combo on CH. 20 frames of execution, but good range.

Not sure if he still has Two Kay Gee, but he definitely has a Low Kick (read: foot stomp) with a deceptive animation (despite having 26 frames of execution) that gives +3 on NH.

It's good to see they're stirring up Jeffrey's pot.

His low game isn't looking too good.

    [1][P]

Special low and evadable on both sides. -10 on guard.

    [1][P][P]

Low and evadable towards his back. Knocks down on hit. -20 on guard.

    [2][K][+][G]

Drop Anchor. +3 on hit and +7 on counter hit. The replacement for his Ducking Low. Worse than his Ducking Low though I think because he remains standing, is slower, and has less range.

I agree with Libertine on this,

Also I want to add that Jeffry's standing low in vanilla was better then this new stomp anyways. It was a lot faster, it had different phases to mix it up and it was half circular. The best part was that the half circular was the opposite of some of Jeffry's stronger half circular directions such as kenka hook so your opponent would think twice about evading in the same direction.

Sadly it did get nerfed a bit in VF5R and it's completely gone in FS...

He couldn't have been that OP to be nerfed so bad... I mean Jacky doesn't get nerfed as much imo, or even Kage to my knowledge... I mean they get some changes, and it doesn't really affect them the way changes affect Jeffry. Threat stance seems like garbage right now, with the exception of that new kick combo starter, and of course the knee. Other than that, low game is meh (I mean it wasn't all that great to begin with, but it was still better than this), throw game is meh (only way to splash mountain is from [2][K] plus throw damage is nerfed), and being a heavyweight doesn't mean much now 'cause everyone does a massive amount of combo damage (combo fiends are gonna eat this up)...

That isn't to say that there won't be strats or whatnot coming out of the woodwork once (if) the game's released on console. I'm hoping that some moves get better pushback properties (or just pushback properties period). That could possibly allow for better usage of Threat stance... Seeing as how he got certain new moves, or some old moves where replaced, it seems as if you're forced to get in even more with Jeffry, rather than to poke from a somewhat safe distance, and let the opponent close in so you can either grab, stun to combo, or just ringout, but I could be wrong...

I won't call him low tier (seeing as many games have had low tier characters that jumped to B or straight up A- to S+ tier - like in NGBC or CvS2). And even if he was, I'd still use him, since I love taking lower tiered characters and crushing higher tier players with them...

Jeff can only do splashmountain from TKD? [IMG]

    Did they even FIX TKD?

ps. Has anyone checked that splash input isnt qcf+P+G now? Or is it truly gone?

According to the Master Guide he has two Splash Mountain throws, and I think that they're wall throws. They both do 70 damage. He has two throws without the wall dealing 60 damage, with the HCB and HCF notations. So he gets two decent damage throws with two different escapes.

His FBB does less then vanilla, and when you consider the fact that his Splash Mountain is gone it should be doing the same amount or better yet more then vanilla.
What do you mean by "FIX TKD" what was wrong with it in the first place? Also yes, it's gone I found out a long time ago from Reno.

Jinxhand, hopefully in version B of FS they make some tweaks to Jeffry and make him a bit stronger, also I agree to that I'd still play him even if lowest tier, I did in EVO after all as well and he's way worse there.

The standard Splash Mountain throw as we knew it no longer exists in FS. To elaborate on Libertine's reply, the only remaining forms of the Splash Mountain are:

    Toe Kick -> Splash Mountain
    [2][K] (hit) [2][3][6][P][+][G]

    Splash Mountain
(opp. back to full wall) [6][6][P][+][G]

    Splash Mountain
(opp. back to half wall) [6][6][P][+][G]

That its a hitthrow and only one of its kind in that its not guaranteed on hit?

If they changed the properties of the toe kick to complement the guaranteed hit throw then yes I agree, if toe kick remained the same as it currently stands and it was guaranteed hit throw then it would be broken which Manji doesn't seem to agree on. [IMG]

    (conclusion from shoutbox discussion)

If it were a hit throw like say [6][6][P]+[K]:[P]+[G], then it would be good, but if it were an auto hit throw, then I could say that would be busted...

Seeing as how that was a trademark move, I'd think they would've gave it a different notation or something, since throws have been changed drastically. Or at least give him something to compensate for the lack of Splash Mountain. I mean even if that compensation was better stage music, I'd be content...

Does Jeffry have a throw that does 70+ damage (that's not from side-turned or a back throw)???

The highest damage frontal throws that he has without a wall does 60 damage. He has two of them.
