I'm afraid that's never going to happen. They say they can't replicate the seamless and completely lag-free system they have in Japan anywhere else. Wasn't VF.net running on some SEGA owned network or something?

I don't see where lag-free comes in. VF.net is not online fighting. It is a network that tracks ranks, updates machines with new items, etc.

I would LOVE to see a VF5 cabinet in Syracuse (where I'm at), but arcades over here are... um... yeah. "Slow" is an understatement.

No further comment if only to be a nice emperor 4 now... :meh:

I thought that, in Japan, more or less every cabinet in the country was linked to all the others...

    No?

They're linked, but not for multiplayer. It's a statistical network, not a nationwide matchmaker.

So you can only play with the cabinet opposite to yours? At least those two must be linked, I remember 90% of the cabinets having only one joystick+buttons...

Local cabinets are linked together by a data cable.

One cab will have an ethernet port to connect to the internet to reach Sega's VF.Net servers. A cab cannot link to another machine by this nature.
