VF5 Aoi Thread

    I thought that a ground throw attempt was guaranteed after 33P+G, and even if you factor in the times you get your throw broken, it still does more than a 3P on a grounded opponent.

    The effective damage is less than 50%, since an opponent playing optimally will break the ground throw at that rate -- but the expected damage from a ground throw break is roughly 0 (since it ends up in a match reset situtation), whereas you would have had oki opportunities (which carry some positive value) if you never went for the throw.

    Another quick question that will not be answered like the other one:

    Does anyone have a list of throws that Aoi can reverse the follow up downed attacks?

    I know of Vanessa's 6P+G (at least in Evo), and one of Sarah's, but which ones can she reverse in VF5?

    I think the rule of thumb is that if the down attack is considered a true combo to the throw (look at the damage bar to check--if damage taken is combined, then it's a combo; if it resets after the throw and goes down with the down attack, then it's not) then Aoi cannot reverse the ground attack. If it is not a true combo then Aoi can.

    One example would be Akira's /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/df.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif. He can do the ground attack right away and the sequence would count as a true combo--in that situation, Aoi cannot reverse. However, most of the time Akira will choose to slightly delay the ground attack to avoid the damage modifier and thus get higher total damage. In that situation, the sequence is not a true combo and Aoi should be able to reverse the ground punch.

    Actually Jeff, even if Akira delays his ground attack after /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/df.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif, the damage is still the same(13pts).

    Akira players dash forward slightly before doing the ground attack to position themselves in a way that the opponent's mid rising kick will be half circular and the low rising kick linear.

    Lau will delay his ground attack(/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/df.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif) after /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif or /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif so that Lau does not have to worry about the opponent's rising kicks as he is further away. The ground attack damage is the same whether or not Lau delays it.

    Delay ground attacks to get the maximum damage are for combos(especially pouncing after wall combos) instead. Example in FT, Kage's TFT combo(the one ending with /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif+G:) against Aoi will be more damaging if he delays the ground attack but will risk being reverse by Aoi.

    Oops! I knew I should've tested it. I wonder where that thinking about increasing the ground attack damage came from...probably VF3. Or maybe I just made it up.

    Is the true combo/untrue combo theory about Aoi's ground reversal correct?

    Not really. Small ground attacks that are done immediately after throws like Lau's /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif and Kage's /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/df.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif[+]/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif will have the red damage bar combined together but I've seen many strong Aoi struggle and reverse the ground attacks. Of cos if any one trys to delay their guaranteed ground attacks after a throw, Aoi can reverse them.

    Your theory actually applies more to float combos such as Kage's TFT(ending with /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif) and Akira's As3 to evade the damage modifiers but risk being reversed by Aoi.

    Forget about the damage bar.

    If you're playing as Aoi, and you're able to struggle fast enough while on the ground so that you are able to start moving before the down attack hits (even if it does connect), then you're able to reverse it.

    I've decided on Aoi as my main character this time around. I picked up VF4: Evo late on the insistence of a friend and loved it, althought I never beat it and only started getting good with one character: Wolf. I'd grown tired of him as a character, but loving throws as much as I do, it wasn't hard for me to be drawn to Aoi.

I seem to only pull that off on instinct, but I would like to mix up the /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif ~/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/d.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif ~/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/d.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif ~/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/u.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif string I've gotten hooked on. Also, any other suggestions for combos with Aoi are always welcome, or just tips for aspiring Aoi players because I still feel (and probably still am) a VF newb.

    That Goh already beat 4 x 10dans defending title match and need just 1 more to rank up to Mersa but got totally crushed by the Aoi(who was going to rank down if she lost). >.<

    About SW reversal, it gives +19f according to the VFDC command list but I'm sure it's like in VF4 where you can get a guaranteed /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif, so you do have a free uppercut /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/df.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/df.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif ( and even /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif[+]/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif maybe).
    So as after high / mid circular kick reversal.

    So are SW reverse they are standing (though animation shows otherwise)? I wonder because, unless a CH, hitting a crouched opponent with a launcher gives it a shitty launch (true?). Does the SW-reverse break this rule or... ?
