Very nice meeting, maybe we should make a rule out of one tournament per day. Three was a bit much that time.

Tournament had ups and downs, still got some fighting game basics that I’ve yet to incorporate into my game, but there’s definitely improvement so I’m pretty much satisfied with the results, even if I messed up some combo’s that I always did right before. Practicing that long ducking double knee max damage combo has messed up my timing for the guaranteed one I always did before, it even got so far I started failing to combo at all from that one. I was so happy I could almost cry when I noticed I could actually pressure people with a wakeup game now and again.

Points for improvement: I told myself I‘d hitcheck my elbows, have been training to do so too, but completely forgot. I realized it only during the final round against Mike… I also told myself I’d try for clinch with every move that allows it, and I did on Saturday, then forgot on Sunday, free damage down the drain there. Oki can be improved in dojo with a cpu set to random rise, and mix in the Oki moves I forgot during the meet. Get my mind to actively track which mix up worked and which one didn’t so I can use that info in later rounds, try and build a mental list or something, will start on paper.

More importantly though: What were the round totals? I know I won seven rounds against Mike and lost six while losing the match. And I demand third place for beating Krye! Yeah, I’m fishing to make myself feel better. ^_^

    NGKrush:
I promised myself to wait for those delayed strings of yours (I learned from AI what his strings were) but screwed up, trying to backdash and failed fuzzy attempts and all, those cost me a lot of random hits. Ake showed me I’ve got a lot to learn about Lion. I want to train with him against humans (and in dojo) only and see if that makes a difference. I have no idea what happened to Vanessa, sometimes I can get her to work and sometimes I don’t. I only played Goh against Krye and got whipped. Demo’s a quirky but good comic, thanks again, and I remembered where I knew Wood’s name from, his Channel Zero project had me interested before but I had enough books to pick up already (he also collaborated with Ellis on the excellent Global Frequency).

    Sofiane:
Jacky requires hit checking from here to the moon, even more so than Brad, since Brad can be relied upon to combo to mid whereas Jacky has a lot of mid/low to highs, so the enemy can easily duck and punish a lot of the time. Those hop back mixups are extremely risky too, you really have to check for staggers, else take the reset and approach again. This is what makes Jacky hard to use I think, you have to reset and restart all the time, he’s like Yun without Jesus super. I think you can get him to work if you expand the mixups a bit though and use delayed strings a bit more to get people to block. When out of ideas with Vanessa: use the Vorty move! OS/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/d.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif FTW! /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/laugh.gif

    Sp00n:
Next time I AM picking Vanessa against you…
Oh, and punish me when I try /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif (jumping knee) at the wrong moment, I don’t want that becoming a habit.
I’ll come by your house in a week or two if that’s ok.

    Mike le Roi:
Masterfully solid, I believe I had to eat damage with every low punch I threw out that last match. I was completely on autopilot there and you read into it and punished me for it accordingly. Our matches on Saturday were a different story, with some nice back and forth adaptation and mixups. Lion caught you a bit unaware at first, but you got a hold on him quickly enough, having me look left and right for my moves. Probably the most interesting matches of the weekend really. Main lesson: having a sweep that knocks down on normal hit and evades highs is extremely liberating.

    Ake:
I put myself to the mission of using as many moves that couldn’t be evaded by that most annoying kick among annoying kicks and I think it succeeded and managed to get you on the defensive. Like NGK I don’t know how your gameplay changed with him, but it seems you weren’t making the same powerful decisions you were making last time around. Or maybe we’ve learned from the last time. Playing your Eileen re-taught me the usefulness of abare, fun games. Are you going to stop trying that other follow up (/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif was it?) from her back attack throw now?

    Krye:
Our tournament match was really weird, I just kept hitting and was able to keep going from advantage to advantage. Maybe you started on the wrong foot because of the other matches or something, since you had me doubting my moves the evening before, catching my elbows everywhere. I did use more knees initially, but later on even /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif was hitting. Ah well. You definitely understand how to rack up damage quickly with Goh, with throws at the right moments and the mid enemy string sabaki/inashi’s were most impressive. There are a number of combo’s you kept messing up or forgetting though, particularly the stomach crumples and the counterhit knee, you need to be able to do those on reaction. I was shocked to see I fell for Goh’s back turned setup though I used it a million times myself.

And I believe NGK and I could write a book on these meets together…

well, i didn't note the roundtotals, i'm sorry(lets do that next time), your game results where:

    0-2 ngkrush
    0-2 mike leroi
    2-0 akebueno
    1-2 spoon
2-0 sofiane (you played very well in that match, great stuff seeing that high stagger to guaranteed pk in your game!)
    2-0 krye

yeah, you won your game vs krye, but only got 3wins, so i can't put you any higher :p(krye had 8round points in total and you 7 aswell).

damn those essay's...dont worry, i'm going to keep this short /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif

    @NGKrush
Don’t worry, i know what you mean. Yeah, I have been less offensive of late. Also to play shun stylishly you rely on fear of your opponent to attack. mainly because you guys keep punching me out of my cancel strings /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/eek.gif, I have been playing conservatively. But I have been ignoring shun a little bit so I’m going to invest some time in him for the next meeting.

again a fun weekend, already looking forward to the next one!

haha lighthouse is zo low budget dat alleen een klein kruisboogje gekocht kon worden, de rest moest maar een wapen met hun handen vormen =P

So about last weekend, haven't got all that much to say. i'll keep it short.
Sofiane: fufufufu, the hunter became the hunted. Many lols were had.

Ake: Like others already said before me, didn't felt much improvement. (Not that you needed improvement against me, since you still beat me :p ) You didn't gave away enough triple kicks to make up for Fulaani's absence though :p

    Krye: Beginners luck!
haha of course I kid, you played really well and suprised a lot of us. Come again on 1 march /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/wink.gif

Irvin: I can't beat you in tournaments, I desperatly need to learn throw escapes.

NGKrush: You have the most ugly fighting style of us all but it's ruthless and effective, at the moment you are clearly 1 or 2 steps above us all.

Vortigar: Love playing against you, mostly because for some reason I can read your moves better than with other players
End cat ended you and all you love. :p

Nr 1. Krye (aka ikzelf), 2 wins met Goh en 5 met Lau ("Cheap" said the little bird)
Nr 2.

i have no idea what happened. I became a little pissed of at myself cause I know I'm better than how I played that weekend. Nevertheless it was a fun meet though.

I evened out against everyone but failed to grab a few more rounds here and there.

Went practically braindead with Brad. Lots of random /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif bs in the middle of the tournament. I need to break my habits and create a more flowing style.

Had more success with a heavily undeveloped Lion than I thought I would and should (botched inputs across the board). Krye's Lau only lost one game in the tourney, to my Lion... (Implying that he beat Brad, yes.)

I feel I lost the joy I used to have with the game, right now I'm too focused on forcing my way through the opponent's tactics instead of around. I've got fighting gamer's tunnel vision or something, I'm just going through the motions most of the time.

    edit:
Krye was hitting an inordinate amount of Lau's /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/df.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif's against everyone (I'm tempted to say 'but me' but I'm not sure). Those games were really stupid to see. No, let me put that differently, they were plain stupid.

Hey Vort, I have noticed in the last few meetngs that you are very focussed on your own playstyle and character, you need to relax a bit more and just see what the opponant is doing. i think if you play a bit cleaner and focus more on your opponant you can punish their mistakes better and adapt your character to how he is reacting.
this is a complicated way of saying, just chill a bit and just throw out some moves, don't let it get to you, you end up making the wrong choices then.

i think your choice of playing lion and not playing vs the cpu(or have you broken this promise? :p) will be very good for evolving your playstyle
