Re: Masterpo and the Loss of Cool Controversy

Well Sunday you'll get a chance to meet a bunch of us!

Also most of our players are coming from Youngstown State University. It has about 12,000 - 13,0000 students enrolled in any given semester. Finding 20 or 30 players in the college scence is not hard. And in terms of the folks playing at the high school gym, Some of the players were very very good, a few were mediocre, but most where noobs. The highschool was just the venue, not the source of players.

You'll see my friend when we meet. The other advantage to a small city like Youngstown is everybody knows somebody you know. Where as in Cleveland or Columbus its a lot harder to bump into fellow gamers. In Youngstown, if there's a gaming event, Everybody knows about it. Word of mouth alone does the trick.

A lot of the conclusions about our group was just jumping to conclusions. Which is to be expected in a forum like this, so I'm not mad at yall. But our strange ideas will become
clearer over time. Just follow the developments on

http://www.chiquanshu.org

over the next 12 - 18 months

it'll all become clear. You going to actually find out that we're a good thing for the VF community. We represent
at least a small part of its bright future :)

I like your homepage that you put up. Your codex of fighting is most honorable. As I'm still stuck at VF3 (yes, it's better than VF4), and waiting for the 360 version, I'm looking forward to meeting more organized clans, or Virtua Fighter Academies, such as yours. A great idea.

The letter of challenge idea is just a classic :D.

Over the next couple of weeks we're going to be filling the content of the site quite a bit. Right now we just have up the basic framework. But some interesting connections and mappings between classic forms of kungfu, judo, jujitsu, jeet kun do, karate and virtua fighter are on the way.

We're hoping to just add to the VF community. Who knows We'll see.

Masterpo, do you guys record any of your matches?
If so, it would be really cool if you would put some of them up on youtube or just put them on a memory stick and upload them for other VFers to see. I'd really like to see at least one of you guys in action.

On Sunday July 29th, we have one of our
House of Ten Tigers Competitions

The rumor has it that,

akai,cw_ninja, maddy, possibly tribal will be there. We will be recording the matches that take place directly to DVD. It takes a day or two to do the add ons to the DVDS

Although we don't upload video, akai, maddy, etc, will receive dvd's of the various matches and they will be welcome to upload whatever they want.

Re: Masterpo and the Loss of Cool Controversy

It has been said that a man is three things: What he thinks he is; What others think he is; and what he really is. Place doors and windows in a house. It is the opening that brings light within. Set spokes within a wheel . It is the emptiness of the hub that makes them useful. Tribal be the space at the center. Be nothing. And you will have everything to give to others.

Its not all about how good you are or whether you win or loose, its about the possibilities in the match and what can be learned and the fun that can be had. Our crew is in it because of the quality of the VF simulation not just to count wins and loses.

Our crew has been taught this one fact over and over:

No matter how good you think you are, there's always somebody better. Always!

Those who surrender themselves find inner strength.

From the Korean, and Japanese standpoint having "mastered" Virtua Fighter is seen as if you have mastered a real martial art. Eliteness knows no end. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/laugh.gif

Re: Masterpo and the Loss of Cool Controversy

I agree with Leonard_McCoy on this one.

Haven't you noticed that the people's personality's, outlook's on life, sensibilities, prejudices, etc often come out in the midst of gameplay?

People who are conservative often play whatever game they play in a conservative fashion. People who are risk takers in real life tend
to play whatever game or sport within a risk type mind set. People who are dishonest in life often cheat (or try to cheat) at games.

Games and Sports are often a metaphor for life and personal conduct. How one approaches games and sports are often a reflection of ones own character.

The deepness of Virtua Fighter allows you to pursue it with a kung fu spirit.

I do have a lot of fun with VF but I also take it very seriously.

There are 5 fundamental levels of Kung Fu that be achieved in Virtua Fighter the game. We are ultimately going to cover them in great detail at

http://www.chiquanshu.org

1) There is the KungFu of the stick or pad. How one approaches the stick, hand position, dexterity, choice of key mapping etc. Which stick and why. Some players (have become one) with their sticks and couldn't play the game with another brand or type.

2) There is the Kung fu of the round. There are 45, or 60 seconds in each round I may choose to divide the seconds up
between observation, defense, offense, etc. There are 3 to 5 round per match. With Some players the entire match is decided
by the second round and the winner is known. For some players Round 1 is decisive and whoever gets the advantage both (mentally , physically, and in points) in the first round will win the match.

Some players present one style of attack or defense in the first two rounds, only to flip the script in later rounds. There is a science to the strategies of rounds.

3) There is the kung fu of the actual virtua fighter character's moves. Although there are not infinite possibilities in a fight, the number of potential combinations that can happen between 2 good fighters in a 3 or 5 round fight is in the millions. (That might sound hard to believe) But those of you who know something about permutations, combinations or discrete match know what 10! means. Even between two mediocre fighters we're in the 100's of thosuands of possible sequences. (Really!) Which sequence to use? Where, When, How many times, under what conditions can require many many years of practice, training and discipline.

4) Then there is the kung fu of ring size, of walls and no wall.
Knowing how to use the size of the ring to your advantage, or
to your opponent's disadvantage is an art. Properly using
Wall attacks strategic and tactical ring outs requires
a great deal of skill

5) Lastly there is the kung fu of mind games. To lull your
opponent into a false sense of security, or to generate
an environment where you opponent feels a great deal of
fear or trepidation. Or to present your B game First
and then pull a surprise with an A+ game. Requires skill
discipline, patience.

Yeah I have a lot of fun, But I do VF seriously.

Remember, (ITS NOT WHETHER YOU WIN OR LOOSE)

ITS HOW YOU PLAY THE GAME

It says everything about who you are and your character.

The Japanese and Koreans are absolutely right on this about VF!

Going to work.

Kung fu of waking up. I've master the kung fu reverting to my awake state. I usually wake up atleast once a day to make sure to hone my skills.

Kung fu of the Shower. There is soap, shampoo and sometimes even conditioner. There is a delicate belance between lathering and rinsing that must be acheived.

Kung fu of getting dressed. The combination of cloathing at my disposal are in the 20s! Not looking like a complete ass takes great care and mastery.

Finally Kung fu of walking to work. A lot of people think it's just a matter of using the kung fu of distributing your weight to the right foot, then using the kung fu of distributing your weight on the left foot. But that's not the case. You also have to use the kung fu of street lights, the kung fu of not getting hit by cars, kung fu of not getting hit by others using the kung fu of walking to work. The kung fu of walking to work is easily the most subtle yet most rewarding when done right. Or atleast the most punishing when done wrong.

Man I wonder what else I can apply kung fu to!

Pwning is a whole other kung-fu all it's own.
It can be done hard or it can be done soft.
Pwning has no shape or form.
The equilibrium of balancing chaos and mayhem with precise asswhooping and proper shit talking is the most complex of all kung fus.
Let us not forget that Peter Piper picked a pack of pickled peppers, therefore I ask you, how many pickled peppers did Peter Piper pick?
Verily, verily I say unto thee that Jesus Christ applied spoken kung fu and not Jew-Jitsu.
Nanu... nanu.
