After seeing that little clip Im now officially impressed. There are some aspects that didnt quite look right (Wolf's lip sync for example) but the rest is very nice.

Also that clear shot of Akira, thats what Im talking about. The detail is generationally beyond VF4. If you cant see that, you need to look closer. He's got friggin stubble-shading, bump mapped scars and viens. The only hint of polygonal rough ness is on the gi and overall he appears just a slight tad rubbery (common in most CGI anyway). The new models look to be many times what we previously had.

But I know what some people are griping about. These little details arent really revolutionary. But that time for games is pretty much lost. From now, its a steady slope towards photo-realism. Some of us are still apparently coming down from the high left from going from 2D to 3D. Then from blocky polygons to textured blocky polygons. Then smoother characters and 3D stages. VF4 was the beginning of this slower evolution, but it was still looking worlds better than VF3. Anyway, Id say this really marks the start of the next generation in fighting graphics.

Anyway, once again Ill say Im quite pleased with the returning looks. They are now classic and not to be messed with too much. Besides, we know the 2P looks will be much varied as usual, and it cant be said what sort of customization will be possible. Id expect a lot in that department.

Stages are a different matter. The revisited locales look better than ever, but I too hope for some new and unique stages as well. Im sure we havent seen it all by far.

I cant wait to see more, I hope we can get a decent quality direct feed video of the whole trailer ASAP. (which still puzzles me, Sega must know low quality cam shots leak out everywhere. Why not put out a definitive copy in an HD resolution so that we can really see the detail and leave no room for speculation)

check out the realism seen on wolf's gloves!
I love the details in the background.
Sarah's 1p costume actually looks good this time!

    Anyway...this is like VF4 EVO and VF4 all over again. For example;

    '''WAH! JIN CLONE!"" ---->unfounded bitching

""LOOK AT WOLF! CAN ANYONE SAY TIGER?"""-----> I still dun get it till date.

So guys, please...this is not even the final product~ All these un-substantiated "complaints" aren't needed. Just relax?

If anything, we should complain abt getting such a short arse trailer.

Why can't sega understand we wanna see more...not tiny bits of footage?

Wonder what style that new girl character uses, seems we got another Wrestling/heavyweight type to join Wolf & Jeffrey, and looks like no return of Taka !! /versus/images/graemlins/crazy.gif
Guess they still can' t handle "Fat Physics".

The talk we have here in swe / nordic countries is that the girl = monkey kung fu and perhaps the guy = dragon/eagle style? I know everybody auto makes him a wrestler due to the mask and the R.Mysterio thingy but look at his endpose - that's dragon style kung fu imo - definatly not something a wrestler would make.

Edit: Notice that there's a vf style "powermove sound" as the new guy goes into that pose. Fuck the mask, he's not a wrestler. How could a R.Mysterio char even work without going into Wolfs things or doing 360's around turnbuckles? He's not what ppl think.

*sigh* I watched the videos. Just seems like an updated graphics boost to VF4. When are they gonna get new OUTFITS!!!. Same outfits for 5 games!!! New girl looks cool but whats up with Rey Mysterio? lol Maybe a new wrestler for the light weights, lol.

I gotta see more before I like it. Won't stop me from playing the game tho.

The video was too short, i want more!!

If Shinobi is a dragon style kung fu fighter, i'm switching characters!!

The little girl, if she's a monkey style fighter will be like shun, really wacky.

I want to see the game , the only things that overly impressed me about VF was the fighting system , and the thoughtfulness put into the new techniques. The new stage looks should be cool i hope the add a bunch more. The voice acting still blows sideways though lol. .

I'm guessing that the girl is the long-awaited Korean contender.

Although the guy does look like a Lucha Libre wrestler (same as DOA4's new character), the way he's holding his hands (and his costume a little) remind me of Raven from T5. Maybe that's just a pose though...

Overall, I just wanna know how it will play. I'm hoping they continue with the "major overhaul" tradition that every (numerical) version has had. I don't wanna play VF4 with nicer graphics. also hoping for some variation to the stages, both in terrain and shape. Regarding Taka, I was told from several people at once upon asking in Japan that the real reason he wasn't in VF4 was that they couldn't balance him because of Tech Rolls, that since he's too heavy to make big combos on, and he could TR out of bounce combos, he had too much of an advantage that they couldn't figure out. This is just what I was told, but since 3 or 4 people all said "Ukemi"(TR) at the same time when I asked, I figured it was true.

I'm also praying that they make a character-editing system in-game like T5 for overseas markets. Perhaps due to demand in China and Korea we'll see some kind of Asian version of vf.net right at launch MAYBE, but for the rest of us, I'm sure it'll never happen. They should let us edit in-game.

I was wondering if people had seen screens of the new Def Jam fighting game. I'm not a fan of this series, but there are some screens around, only ones I could find are here:

    http://www.gameinformer.com/Magazine/

small pics, but in the magazine they're huge, and the detail on shoes clothes etc is insane. But, when I saw these pics, I was just impressed how it didn't look "gamey" at all. VF5 is basically what I expected, but the Def Jam screens somehow seem so much more real. I dunno, maybe it's just me.

I think fighting game creators have a habit of Over-Producing every little detail, which kind of gives this shimmering fantasy look (like how all the VF4 characters seemed to look "oily" compared to VF3, which was basically just to show off what they could do with the board, yet somehow VF3 seems more realistic to me). I think they'd do good to mix the over the top glowing reflections etc with some more simple, realistic things.

    Lets re-cap the new guy:

And this is the guy from the WWE called Rey Mysterio (quite young in this pic):

That has to be a pro wrestler, why would he have the elbow pads and wrist band like most pro wrestlers do? It's going to be amazing seeing how he is going to fit into the game, Sega always does a wonderful job when it comes to bringing in new chars. Still Taka would have been nice. :-( Also it is common for Mexican/Japanese pro wrestlers to do cheesy martial arts stances like that.

it's gotta be lucha mixed with something, mexican fighters have the habit of using a couple of other styles in addition to the wrestling

    Good clip.

It'll be interesting to learn the new gameplay changes. That Lucha Libre guy seems interesting, but it's too early to draw conclusions at this point. As long as they are somewhat unique fighting styles I'll be happy.

My other major concern is the stages. I really hope they go for VF3 style. I'm so tired of VF4 stages.

same here Dre. i finally got to play Vf3 a few days ago. i can say right now i really like sarah , jacky, and jeffrey's stages, it's pretty cool.

this would be a great if they added all the old stages into this game. as a going away present.

I will only be satisfied if VF5 makes little to no changes from VF4 /versus/images/graemlins/tongue.gif
