VF 5 PS3 1080p rumor

Well that is an assumption. You don't know what sega have done in their conversion development of the game. It would be easy for them to use the same sized textures and simply increase the resolution of the game from 1366X768 to 1920X1080. People will just have to wait until it is released.

Well, as none of their previous games (even naomi) have been direct ports and have involved some sort of reprograming to suit different hardware, there will always be differences with arcade conversions. Some differences are for the better some are compromises for the worse.
For example, Vf2 on Saturn had a higher resolution than the arcade. So did Vf3 on DC compared to the arcade. They both, however, had less polygon detail and texture detail and both had no hardware anti aliasing. There will be differences between the arcade Vf5 and the PS3 version. With less than half the ram of the arcade, the PS3 version will be different. And it will most probably be better in some ways and one of them may very well be 1080P support.

How good of you to mention 'optimal viewing distance. Backtracking?
Higher resolution will always be of benefit. Introducing factors like how far someone sits from a TV set, if they are blind, ingnorant to detail, etc are variables that are irrelevant to the stated fact.

Your example is a limitation of the display device because of its size and pixel resolution. Reduce the size of the panel and a 1080P upscaled source will not look superior to a 480P signal displayed on a 480P panel. Scaling will always result in an inferior image. It is the nature of image interpolation which can be demonstrated basically in any image program like photoshop.

Sure, I'll admit 1080p costs more than 720p. Whether the cost differential is worth it is up to the person buying the display . . . at this point, its only about 10-15% in many cases, e.g the new jvc hd-ila vs last year's model.

Does that mean you're also admitting that its good that sega is at least providing the 1080p option?

Dude, geeseman, you're contradicting yourself, and losing track of who you're quoting. More resolution is always better? A 1080p big panel displaying a scaled 480p image looks good, but reduce the size of the panel and a 480p native set looks better? Make up your mind.

Besides, no one's paying attention besides me and shang at this point - why do you care?

VF5 arcade and assets are best for use in 720p, so the closest you can get to arcade exp is 32 inch 720p native screen. You can argue about how the resolution of the arcade is different, but you are not playing on a lindberg, you're playing on a PS3, which outputs 720p signal.

If you really want to be anal about it, then the only way you'll ever replicate the arcade is to buy a lindberg cabinet...

I lost my thought in the sea of Geeseman's posts. But this thread is awesome, even CrewTW tried to post his thought despite the fact I owned him 27-3 with my secondary character Jacky.

you easily can tell the difference between 1080p and 720p on the Dell 2407WFP and other similar monitors for one simple reason.

VIEWING DISTANCE!

at 2' spotting the difference on a 24" LCD is easy, but on a TV (what most people will use) most people's rooms are set up where they sit several feet outside of the recommended viewing distance from their set and won't be able to tell the difference.

Last I heard, it does have a scaling chip. More specifically, the Nvidia graphics card in the PS3 has the chip. The problem is that Nvidia locked the chip until Sony pays a fee.

No, the research that I saw was pre-Xbox 360 production, i.e. the hardware wasn't finalized yet. It was research to determine what capabilities to put into the box, and MSFT decided gaming wasn't ready for 1080p this generation. At that time anyway, though I doubt they'd change their minds today.

Hey shang, when were you unbanned? How long will it take you to get banned again? I see you are still loved.

1080p will not always cost more than 720p. At some point 1080p will become the default and you won't be able to buy a 720p display. The majority of displays are based on LCD or DLP technology. The same thing happened with LCD monitors. You can't exactly buy a new 1024x768 lcd monitor these days. When a size and resolution becomes standard, it will become the most cost effective as old inventory is cleared out. C'mon the expert in you should already know that.

Here is the most useful piece of information in this thread:

If you want to play VF bigger than 42" go buy a Panasonic AX100 projector. You can probably pick one up a bit higher than 1K. The AX100 is a native 720p 2000 lumen short throw projector. In laymens terms, this means if you've got a few feet you can display a huge bright 720p image that would cost you 15K+ in a fixed display to obtain.

http://www.projectorcentral.com/panasonic_ax100.htm (review)

If people aren't fans of projectors then waiting it out for a year or so is probably your best bang for the buck during 720p's run. By waiting you will get the most mature technology for the lowest cost.

Yeah whatever CrewTW. Here is the most truth piece of information in this thread:

So there was this guy Andy from NYC. He played with all the best of the talents in the USA; he invited the top players from Japan and even went to Japan to train his VF skill. Then this Andy started to talking a lot crap on line, saying he's "the best lau player", "the best aoi player", "If you beat me 51% then..", "you don't know what skill is unless you play vf in Japan", "Imbred play" (which is misspelled from inbred), and "NYC is the best".

Then he got owned by this other guy, The Shangster, 27-3, who hasn't played vf in 2 years, never had real competition. Andy was owned in his very home on his very own projector. Andy has to reset his PS2 to save shame before his pal Adam walked into the room. Andy was using the best character in VF: Kage, while The Shangster was using his secondard character Jacky. Andy then denied this ownage by saying things such as: "It never happened", when everyone know The Shangster would never make up something like this. and.. "I wasn't using my primary character", when in fact the only reason Andy resorted to Kage was only because The Shangster owned Andy's primary character, Aoi, with the worst character, Wolf. Andy could not Tech-Roll the air combo ending with Wolf's b+P from The Shangster and was crying like a little baby.

Too bad not a soul believes you, even though I never denied you beating me those evo games. I guess being a pent-up chicken from all those bets has given you a rock solid reputation.

Have you read my signature? Oh wait, you read between the lines.

What, uh-huh, sure, ok, nice, special woo-hoo!

I have a 40 inch Sony 1080p LCD and I can't wait for this game, it should look awesome. I really wanted to wait for the new "deep color 1.3 hdmi sets", but I needed a HD TV in a bad way so I got a smaller less expensive set. Havin BILLIONS of colors will be nice because the eye can tell the difference. I see color banding all the time. Wether or not the game is in 1080p makes no difference, just give me the game!
