I'm pretty sure it's a factor of risk vs. reward for vf tier lists but I could be way off. I forget the specifics between all the different fighting game tier lists. They all are made under diff criteria. I like Akai's version the best where you see who's winning more tournaments and those are the teirs. Player skill does vary but over a large sample of data it should level out yielding good data. Good stuff there akai.

Are you referring to the high that goes under mids or the sweep that goes under low punches? /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/grin.gif

Thanks. I am not home much to play VF, so I just mess around with the tournament data at school/work. I am always looking for a better way to present the data, so if anyone found a problem with how the data is presented and/or have a better way to present the data, I would like to hear about it.

    ---

As for the Japanese tier lists and like what others have mentioned, it is based on risk & reward. At least one of the tier list weigh in the amount of options available to the character.

Awesome read. Interesting how they organized the tiers, being that it was based on damage. It's really a small advantage. I've seen plenty of videos where Lions and Sarahs dominate the S class characters in the right hands. (Ex. Chibita's Lion) VF5's, hands down, the most balanced fighter.

OK, since some idiot resurrected a 2007 thread the same day i was discussing on the shoutbox how much i hate the "official" VF5 ver.C tier list i just have to say it again: this "official" tier list is obsolete and LUDICROUS.

I'd normally suggest closing dead threads like this but i'm aware that such a bold statement will inevitably incite further discussion [IMG]

    13. Yupa (SA) (lost to GoatCheeseBlues, Johoseph)

At the SoCal Tourney only 8 characters-->Aoi, Akira, Jeffry, Kage, Wolf, Jacky, Pai, and Shun finished ahead of Sarah. Meaning 8 characters finished behind Sarah.

Sarah took 3 of the top 13 spots, only bested by Kage (showed up 4 times).

    Only tied by akira akira.

Sarah is well represented and doesn't seem to suffer from balance issues.

Remind we aren't the best players, nope. Sarah's moves and properties just don't equally compare to others in this game. But damage is damage I suppose. A better player will usually have a better shot at winning regardless.

Sarah ain't nothing like Claw in SF4. Now THAT'S some BS. You will NEVER see Claw succeed EVER [IMG]

lmao social_ruin, are you for real?

Our competition pool(U.S.) is way too small, and non diverse.

Nothing to do with us being good or bad, nah, just small and non diverse.

What I'm saying is, it's a biased sample and I can't believe you used that as an example.

I dont really think anything can be done about that. People are aware that VF is a solid game. But there arent many people willing to put the time and the effort into playing VF. I cant say I blame them though. VF takes a really long time to learn and to understand properly. Where as playing a game like SF4 Learn a few basics and your on your way to improving your game. VF isnt really like that. So it generally will be alot harder for people to want to come to play VF instead of other games because of the investment of time invovled in learning how to play it to its best

Just keep enjoying the game and hopefully others will pick up the vibe. It'd help to have a flashy style for spectators too haha.

I really don't know how to change it seriously. You'd basically have to rock the entire foundation of players of other fighting games, cause this has a different way about playing and thinking.

Maybe if we get more stupid drama like this:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ty7VUjGiGoA
we'll get more players... and more money matches... and all the juvenile idiocy that comes with it.

    "I'll beat your ass!"
"Oh no, I'll beat your ass, bitch!"
"Who you calling a bitch? Bitch! I will [insert all kinds of bullshit that most people wouldn't actually do here]!!!"

Was that before or after Demon Hyo humiliated him at Evo?

That was before he was challenged to a $3,000 money match by ClockWork and then lost.

Money matches are terrible in my opinion but many people seem to love them. Alex Valle and Justin Wong considered a $10,000 money match in SFIV at EVO this year on the big screen before Wiz put the nix on it. EVO this year is going to feature probably some huge money matches in SFIV.

I don't gamble on sports, don't play cards, don't money match. To each his own.

I'm not sure but it's pretty silly to let it get to a point where dudes are threatening other dudes about being strapped like they really gonna bust caps over a damn video game.

I'm cool with some trash talking and even some money matches and all but after a while crap like that usually deteriorates depending on the maturity level of those involved.
I can tell that some of the fellas on this site could trash-talk all day without making it personal or letting it get stupid which is great cuz, let's face it, it can be fun and funny [IMG]

I hope 5R gets released and it attracts more players, preferably more skilled at actually playing than talking trash and making idle threats =/
If the VF community ever got as bad as some of the other fight communities out there... *shudders*

Marvel drama is hilarious. btw they've got a couple of other interview videos out. The history on DarkPrince is tooooo funny, you should've seen him crying tears about Wigfall at a tournament, I was there in person.

    --------

Back on subject though, I'll name some Sarahs for you guys that have wrecked strong opponents shit, in vanilla:

    Edomaru, YOU, K2

Unfortunately, come tournament time the footage I've seen, they've all been owned or had to play runaway from the opponent. Of footage I've seen only one Sarah in tourney on the giving end of intercourse without consent, and it was a Sarah from amusebeebee.

Only reason I said something initially is that people scream out Chibita's Lion(not Sarah) whenever it comes to the balance, but never mention a Sarah player... cause you'd be hard pressed to find it and footage.

Have a DVD of a 5 on 5 tournament from Beat Tribe where a single Sarah takes out the entire Eileen team (and these were/are the five best Eileens in the world). Even though Sarah is low tier there are a lot of good players who played her at a very high level in earlier VFs and still played her in VF5, just like Lion, so you'll still see Sarahs and Lions performing very well from time to time due to great players behind the stick.

It was a Sarah team vs Eileen team?

I really enjoyed watching the beat tribe Jacky team vs Sarah team from Evo, that was one of the biggest reasons I played and stuck with Sarah.
