Again, to resolve clipping issues, while it takes time, does not present itself as a challenge for the gray matter as the problems I highlighted with the System. In other words, it's more of a complex problem to solve which has further impacts into the game as a whole than fixing clipping issues.

Does he or does he not Tech Roll?

    1. If yes, then he probably has to float. But if he floats, then this might go against their original design for the sumo fighting style.

    2. If no, then how do you prevent all the bounce combos, ground throws, etc, which are now guaranteed every time? Does this unbalance the game?

With each path you try to follow, it just leads to more questions.

Solving animation in terms of "problem solving" is trivial.

And I just want to correct you on VF3's hit detection system (BTW, what's Lion's 3KK?) But the undulation in VF3 did not cause ground based attacks to miss where they otherwise wouldn't. I think the example you tried to make was along the lines of: If an elevated character does a High attack, then if their opponent is standing, but lower in elevation, then the attack will miss. This never happened, and if it did, then the game would suck.

    Bottom line:

    1. Making Taka fit into the system --> a difficult and complex problem to solve

    2. Making Taka specific animations --> lots of grind work, but otherwise a no-brainer (IMO)

What about slimming him down a tad (less wide; i.e. more weight training and less fat) and making him more Dural's weight?

Ya, making him float may indeed go against their original design...but too fucking bad IMHO. Things change. Vanessa was a pretty different character from VF4 to VF4 evo (from my understanding, only started VF with VF4 evo). Would making him float really go against their whole Sumo philosophy? =/

Of course, if you don't want him to float, you can't let him TR. As Myke said, this brings up a bunch of issues with regards to guaranteed attacks.

Letting him float (low like Dural) would be a quick fix...but where's the fun in a quick fix? =P Do we really want Taka to float? =/

    1. No TR, no float, but change some moves properties around, etc to better suit this method. But now you're not following the VF4/VF5 system...and that's gay.

    2. TR, Dural style float...is this Sumo?

    3. No TR, no float, but give him tools to handle himself on the ground. Does sumo have these tools? If not, merge another style with his Sumo, one that has those ground tools. Would be interesting if we can "reverse" a low ground throw, etc...Sambo maybe? That'd be cool (Fedor Emelianenko FTW!). It would also abolish the whole "Honda clone" vibe I get off him. =/ I'd still want him slimmer (more built and down to a cool 350 pounds as a more modern/healthier Sumo wrestler). This new Taka would both be incredibly interesting to play as and against.

But again, that's not (pure) Sumo anymore. All this leads me to one conclusion: (pure) Sumo and VF simply don't mix. Like oil and water.

Either they need to change their philosophy with regards to Sumo to conform to the VF system (and make him float), or merge another style like Sambo with it to deal with the no float, no TR issue without messing with the system itself.

EDIT[/size]: Apparently Brazilian Jiu Jitsu really focuses on dealing with ground strikes and throws. Now that'd be damn interesting! Brazilian Jiu Jitsu + Sumo + 350 pound Taka.

Wow you guys are really into Taka. I dont really think that a character who complicates things would have a place in vf. VF has a really strong system that works extremely well so a pure taka or no float character is not IMHO what they should aim for. And don't bring the one and only character that got cut of VF. He's gone bring something new.

there is plenty of room left for tons of interesting martial arts but please try to come up with something different something new that no other game as come up with. That is in my opinion the best choice. Something really really new

Had to look up what that Wing Chun was, I remember it now. I think it's awesome, I just don't know if they could give it an entire moveset that would work with the VF system or not /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smirk.gif

Wow Evo already confirmed!? VF deffinetly needs more females to make it more balanced.

And for those who want a street fighter: KIMBO SLICE!

I suspect Taka's exclusion in VF4/5 is a combination of gameplay and animation reasons...but I do want to echo what Maximum wrote. Custom animations are a PAIN IN THE ASS and increases work exponentially. (It may be a no brainer, but it's a muscle killer). Sure, they did it for VF3, but perhaps with hindsight AM2 decided the benefits did not outweigh the costs.

Hm maybe I confused extra health with the character doing more/less dmg on avg. It also might be that my main Askua had the same combos for every character it didn't matter who it was. I've also never read anything about character specific combos. Maybe it changed in DR.

No more feeble female characters. Please don't make this game like DOA.

I was watching Dragon: The Bruce Lee Story last night, and I thought that this guy would be nice in VF (or someone using that style, not sure what it is), at 1:40:

due to vf4/5's single skeleton animation system every character's throw damage animations are animated once and shared by all characters - (with a few exceptions). this saves the animators exponential time and effort and keeps the memory required to store a character's animations within reasonable limits.

ditto for crumples, flinches and knockdowns.

to resolve clipping with taka, on the other hand, EVERY SINGLE throw, low throw, ground throw and throw damage animation for EVERY single character would require a custom animation to work due to his massive scale. add to that every single reversal and you can see why they ditched taka.

i have a sneaking suspicion the work load was the main reason am2 ditched him.

I understand the animation issue and clipping issues.

Taka was overly larger than larger in VF3, like XXL compared to the rest.

But, AM2 still increased the size of Wolf and Jeffry for VF5 non-the less.

The only saving point that we can make is that if they see fit to increase the size of some characters, why non REDUCE the size of Taka?

Reducing his size would be fine.

YOU KNOW what, screw all that. Why not introduce a new SUMO that is trained by Taka and make him smaller...... there problem solver

i agree...i'd sooner see taka re-introduced, albiet at a reduced scale, than not at all.

So is VF5 Evo real or not?

I remember seeing a thread about it awhile ago, but last time I checked it, its validity was called into question because the same site said VF5E was coming in July (this year), and I didn't see any other links confirming it was real this time.

    What's the latest?

I also found this on the internet a couple of days ago and I'm wondering how legit it is. I saw that it said Version D with new costume and modes - and now this has been announced it seems more likely that the Evo details are true aswell.

I was also thinking that the chance of this happening is fair as AM2 would have to wait about 2 years before they even think about making a VF6 (when technology has advanced enough to justify a proper sequel). What else would the VF team be doing in the meantime? Seeing as VF4 had 2 overhauls, I personally think it should get at least one. I've got my fingers crossed for a VF5 evo and a downloadable patch to purchase for the Xbox (I can't see them releasing it as a new game like they did for the PS2).

As for Taka, I am hoping that he is one of the 'new' characters for an Evo update. People say that he would be too large and hard to implement but half of the animation routines are already there from VF3 (Kage's special /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif, /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/u.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif and all the other throws could reuse the old animation data). Plus, they only just introduced a new body type in VF5; Eileen and El Blaze are super small characters, why can't we have a super large character? Eileen has to jump up very high on Jeffry or only slightly against herself or El Blaze when performing her /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif and /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/df.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/d.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/db.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif throws. They are already dealing with animation changes against certain characters. Plus there are loads of throws and counters that would be fine as they are against Taka - Lion's /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif, Vanessa's kneeing low throw (/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/df.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif in offensive), Goh's /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/df.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif, Jacky's Pak Sao just for 4 examples I just reeled off from the top of my head. It would only be a minor complication and will not be the reason he was omitted. Yu Suzuki said that Naomi 2 wasn't capable of displaying such a large character (processing wise), but now this shouldn't a problem for Lindbergh/PS3/360 (and beyond).

While they are at it, they should make Shun and Lion smaller to match El Blaze and Eileen in Virtua Fighter 6. Shun seems like a giant old man and Lion is a man sized kid. This seems mildly ridiculous (just look at Lion vs El Blaze - it's almost like Rey Mysterio vs Andre The Giant).
