Are you telling me it's possible, to block/counter punches when being mounted on? If so, how as I would like to know, with regards to my post, I didn't think it was that absurd, yes rather idealistic upon recollection, yet the responses have blown me away, I was saying it based on experience, to put my 'thesis' to the test I will try my methodology on Sarah (on Very Hard, and or Hard as well as in the dojo).

Dammit, I had a longer post in here and it's gone! I think it was during the crash of the site. But Chefboy had read it though, so it's all good.

    Oh, in DOJO.

We're talking about people... I've never seen DOJO A.I. escape TKD options.

    We all did. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/frown.gif

hit /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif on impact to stop face punches. hit/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/d_.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif on impact to stop vanessa's stomach punches, and hit /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif to reverse her submission hold.

Really, you should have bought the Brady games guide it has all the reversals and strategies. It eliminates all the guesswork and piecemeal learning from people in the forum. I heard srider was one of the writers. lol.

See? That's and advice against Sarah. Also very good against Brad /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/wink.gif (Or whoever else if you've got grat yomi /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/laugh.gif )

Anyway, evading and /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/df.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif is not such a bad option as either /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/wink.gif

Ok, I had some interesting matches against Tricky the other day. It got me rethinking about the nature of Vanessa. I remember that I couldn't really launch someone to well without counter hits. So I(as in myself, not the character) thrive on fighting an abare opponent. Unfortunately that doesn't seem to get me far against Eileen.

For one Tricky's defense was just on point that day, and also she has some really evasive moves that negate whatever advantage I have at a given time. I was really forced to delaying attacks and throwing a lot. Just because I was afraid his attacks would go through mine.

Knowing the mix-ups that Eileen has(I'm still working on punching her out of /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/d.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/df.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif + /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif on reaction) and her evasiveness what do some of the other Vanessa out there use against the monkey girl?

I can tell you that /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/u.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif(DS) is fairly important against Lei-fei as it's a move that he cannot reverse at all. You can stuff a lot of attacks out of his stances with that move.

If you're having trouble hitting him, it may be because of the few evasive moves he has.

Pressing /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/d.gif while in Hai Shiki stance(where he slaps the ground) evades many mid-attacks. I've also seen his Sweep out of Doku(Where he stands on one leg evade a few linear attacks. If gives you any space at all while he's stance dancing, you can use /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif(DS) to stuff his moves a few times. Also make sure you don't miss opportunities for guaranteed punishment. The recovery on a lot of his unsafe moves are a little quick so if you hesitate to punish you'll be punished for it.

A move that works particularly well against Lei-fei is /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/d.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif. The only time he can sabaki low attacks is Ko Ko Shiki stance(he's backturned with one hand in the air above him and one back below him.) You can usually count on Lei-fei players to attack a lot because they can't block in a stance, and that move works wonders against aggressive players.

I moved this from the "vanessa's weakness" thread. I tried to refrain from posting in matchup threads because i once read some of my older posts about VF4evo and was ashamed of my ignorance. So i'm trying to make this as diplomatic as posssible.

I don't know about other vanessa players but when playing jeffry I try to take his damage output into consideration and make a couple of changes into my gameplay:

I switch to OS. If i am standing i make sure i am punching. Otherwise i duck a lot. Or spam the old evade p+k a bit. I try to avoid eating splash and knee at all costs, eating d+k+g or the odd low throw is far less damaging. Backdash > russian hook is good if jeffry tries to pressure back. I definetly try to stay the fuck away from walls and use long barrel blow to push him back if he corners me. I also try to remember to throw the odd death scythe since his d+k+g is one of the few low attacks that special high works on. Most importantly, punish a blocked knee with pile bunker.

If i find myself in DS, remember not to rely on defensive elbow & throws cause the knee might beat them. Besides getting fuzzied under & -8 if blocked means 2-choice for half-my-lifebar so no thanks. Instead go for df+p if disadvantaged or f+k when in advantage. I usually try to switch back to OS ASAP though since punishing knee is my top priority.

Dunno, i must have been traumatised by his knee or something but IMHO jeffry must have been the main reason they gave her DS b+p+k in VF5R.

Great anti-jeff strats. I'll have to remember the pile bunker punish. Is there a decent combo that works against jeff off the pile bunker?

Another thing I've found in this matchup: using the Leopard strike when Jeff is in rushdown works pretty well. The two moves I find jeff uses a lot when trying to put on pressure is f+k and b+k, Leopard takes care of both. Also works on his insanely fast df+k.

Again though, there doesnt seem to be much damage that comes from getting this hit, as it is a back flop and jeff is heavy.

Sadly, there is no good combo against Jeffry with /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif unless you want to do heavy down attack which sucks.

In open stance you can do /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif+/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif which doesn't do that much damage, but it's something I guess...but if you don't want to check stances I suggest using /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif or /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif as +14 punish against Jeffry.

I would like to know how other vanessa players recommend dealing with shun's lie down stance  I can be patient but if the clock is running out and i'm losing i don't know how to approach him: my far reaching moves don't scrape and a whiffed move means i lose a chunk of my life and the lay down game is renewed :( Bonus frustration points if shun manages to ring me out with consecutive lie down > rising kick > high punch > low kick > lie down sequences

He is esentially lying on the ground so do down attacks, pounces, and Vanessa low leg sweep against it. I use that basic tactic with Pai when I see a shun that want stay on the ground on me.

Maybe i didn't manage to convey what my problem is exactly. Imagine the following scenario: shuns opens the round and scores some quick damage. Then spaces and lies down. Your sweeps will whiff leaving you open, as will DS [K] or OS [6][6][K]. If you try to pounce from a mile away, shun can retaliate on reaction. The clock is ticking. How do you close the distance?

/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/d.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif from OS or /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/db.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif from DS knocks shun out of lie down and has pretty good range.

Honestly though, when a Shun player tries a weak-ass tactic like that, I give them just enough rope to hang themselves with. I'll dash in and block. If they do /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/d.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/d_.gif, then you've got your free light ground attack. If you're a bit more brave, dash in with DS /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/f.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif + /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif to sabaki the mid kick. If you're going to do mids while shun is lying down, use downward mids; DS /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/db.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif + /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif or OS /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/b.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/df.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif + /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif.

Theres no denying that Shun has an advantage while he's in that stance, so just allow him to do his little attacks and punish him for it.

The problem with taking the guaranteed stomp is that i have been pushed to the edge of the ring with this pattern strategy one too many time. Ergo frustration. And leg bomber is awesome if shun thinks my attack will whiff and lies still on the ground. Unfortunately it's also so slow that my vanessa can be knocked off the air on reaction - his midkick is quite fast at 14 frames! Also that sidekick apparently has longer reach than vanessa's far-reaching moves so if i whiff that leg bomber or OS [2] [K] or DS [1] [K] or whatever his retaliation will nevertheless connect :(

Shuns low kick out of oushin is 13 frames... The Oushin stance is perfect for any of those damn turtles who kick on reflex to either mid (14 freams) or low (13 frames). Grr.
