It possible to be in the Grand Finals if you only attend Atlantic City if you place Top 4 in the Last Chance Qualifiers on Friday. The other tournaments are important for those who do not place in the Top 4 as they accumulate UGS Points (TM) that will be used to determine the Wild Card Slots.

Excellent. I would love to participate in the other tournaments, but since I'm far off in Oregon--it would be pretty costly and at this year it's tricky to schedule for me. But I appreciate what you guys are doing, and continue to wish you guys the best in getting this going smoothly.

And I'll try to make it to Atlantic City. It'll be tough, but I'll try.

it is easier to win the final if you win the other tournament, right?
I don't really care about it.

so, how are you guys going to determine which player uses 1P or 2P?

as I read the rules of JC Media, it looks like this media has NEVER seen VF matches. I did not expect it...less interesting.

according to the game rules on JC media web site...

    1. Game Settings: Versus Mode, 2/3 Games, 2/3 Rounds.

does this mean 2 out of 3 rounds? what the hell...they changed tekken's rules as 3 out of 5, but they did NOT change VF5'w rules. it is supposed to be 3 out of 5 rounds as well.

    2. Players must select 'Random Stage'. You can not select a stage to play. Electing a stage will result in a foul.

so 1P or 2P is also selected by ramdom...??

players are definitely influenced by stage (or may be 1P or 2P)in fact, I prefer using 1P or 2P whichever I feel better in 1P or 2P on the day.

on vf5, selecting 1p, 2p,and stage is also one kind of strategies

I hope they change the rules at least ''the number of rounds''

We all played in 2/3 matches and 3/5 rounds. The stages were also chosen randomly.

What we didn't do is pick 1P or 2P side randomly. We didn't really care, but you are right it should be random.

according to the rules, it is ok.

I uses Pai and other characters,so I feel ok with it. I have not decided my main character yet.

However, If I play on the final or something, I will probably not choose my character unless the other player choose if the rules are not changed. there is no rules for players when to decide. deciding a stage means you are challenging. this means, you can choose your stage since you are challenging. I assume it as a strategy. therefore,if stage is random, there is no reason to stop thinking about the character against the oppoment.

Example:Radon may usually use Shun, but when he faces me, he may use El. If he uses El, I may choose Kage or Lau. However, if his character is Shun, I may want to use Pai or Akira. Therefore,
    it will happens.
if his character is El, I would choose a half fance stage, but if his character is Shun, I would choose no-ringout stage.

    like this.

you may have known it or you may not have. since I have not played VF5 a lot, now I depends on these kind of strategies more than feelings and senses. this may be handled by players who can use several characters though.

Character change is allowed if you lost a match.

I have to admit, I did like the rules at the SoCal Singles Tournament (different from the Buy.Com Tournament).

I hope Plague or Matt K or someone can come in and clarify what those rules were, but it was a nice system.

I think it was a one-character tournament though, but it made the other decision easy:

The player who decides what side (1p or 2p) to play on, gives the other player the right to decide the stage.

The loser of a match gets the right to change the stage.

Personally, I would be cool with being able to change characters though. Winner would have to stay as the same character, but Loser gets to choose both stage and change character.

As for whether or not there is a procedure for who picks a character first on the first match, eh... I dunno. Doesn't matter to me because I always play Lion, but matchups are a factor in VF.

But I imagine the player who picked the side can be forced to pick a character first. Other player then picks character. Then the one who picked the side could then (because opponent was given a chance to counter their character choice) pick the stage.

If both players cannot settle on who opts to pick the side, they can toss-a-coin.

    Just an idea.

Also, I do assume UGS is using 3/5 rounds. Glad to hear from Oioron that that is the case. Hope they change that on the website.

I will definitely use Pai and Jacky on Evo final because of the Version difference between Japan and the US.

Pai is much stronger, and it is obviously different ahter pai hits PK. it may be confusing for not players here, but japanese.

I have to think over any strategies just for the victory. I may be too serious about it, but if I quit being serious,i would not be able to beat Japanese. I got changed after playing vf in Los and portland.
