well i was up 40 hours on the 1st day, then up again for another 40+hours for the rest, but anyways how many times have we played?

im adaMENT! this time around i will make people hate the game.

Here is a list of rules so far:

[*] One character only, not to be changed from going between group and knockout phase.
[*] Matches are first to 3 wins (ie only possible outcomes are 3-0, 3-1, 3-2) 200 life bars, 45 secs on clock, best 3 of 5 rounds.
[*] Players must both agree on which side to play on. If they can't a coin is flipped for them.
[*] Top 2 players from each group advance to knockout. The first round (quarter final) is a straight elimination of 8 to 4. The remaining 4 then play several more games to decide final positions.
[*] No smoking in the room. This is gospel. There are several places away from the room at which to smoke but no one is to smoke in the room please.
[*] In group stages, players pick up 1 point for every win. eg SlimAdey plays Lead and wins 3-2, SlimAdey recieves 3 pts, Lead 2. This will hopefully give us 2 definitive positions in each group and save us the hassle of needing further play offs if some people come joint 2nd for example.
[*] Pad players (I think we only have 3) aren't allowed use of buttons which have +, +, +, ++ commands. There was quite a stir with this last time but I'm pretty sure we won't have any problems this time.
[*] When playing casual matches, there will be a fairly strict time that players can play for. Please be considerate to everyone else and after playing a few matches with someone, leave the game and allow others to play. If anyone is seen to be hogging any set ups then they'll be forced off in order to let others play.

Oh and please bring along your own sticks too if possible.

Hi LM, it's nice that you are organising such a good event to keep gamers entertained, it's great to see someone cares about what they do. Good Luck to you, I hope it all works out.

As far as players not being great or whatever, that's totally fine. VF is an open game, no wins are guaranteed in my eyes. I have been around players much weaker than me and I have been around players much stronger than me. It's all the same, we are there to have a good time, so let's just do that. Maybe we can all share a thing or two, that's what games are all about isn't it? Learning and improvement. Whatever happens I know I'm gonna have fun.

Also, I see that i misunderstood about the flame war thing, my bad.

Random, yeah I see what you mean about the streetfighters and I really wish that troc would get Final Tuned in a proper cabinet with good sticks. I really would be happy.

About the train journey: I am up for getting the train down to Manchester but the thing is I think I will have to leave early that evening. Like 7pm or something because I have a big breakdancing event that I have to attend that same evening. It's a shame that both events are clashing on the same day. If anyone is having a VF session or something the night before, on the Friday I could come that evening. I could hang out with you guys a bit longer at least, I would need somewhere to sleep then though too. Anyone know any cheap accomodation around that area? Hey Iron Mike, will you be there Friday night? Could I stay at yours perhaps? Let me know. Thanks.

Hi Ryan,

I think Chris wouldn't mind you staying at his (as long as you don't mind a sleeping bag and a pillow combination! /versus/images/graemlins/grin.gif). At the moment there's meant to be LM_Akira, Jeffahn, Nakura and yours truly staying at Chris's the night before (the Friday!). We'll be splitting round's, talking about gaming, maybe a few beers (well, I certainly will be!). I'm actually booking work off on that Friday, so let me know if you want me to meet you in anywhere in Manchester (I live here) and we can go to Piccadily Amusements for some Tag (they unfortunatley DON'T have VF4:Evo!), if Chris isn't ready or you come in the morning. I'll PM you my mobile just in case.

I was talking to Maz, whats the deal with using the shoulder buttons on the pads? I personally will be using a stick at the meetup but I don't have any problems with my opponent using the shoulder buttons. I think the players should be allowed to use the controll pad anyway they wish, if it means having a much closer match-up, then so be it. I'm just asking on behalf of Maz because I know he's a much better plyer when he uses the shooulder buttons than without. I don't know how the other PAD players feel about this, but I think the players should be able to adjust the controls how they wish.

Apart from that, I'm looking forward to the meetup. Oh by the way I'll be using Akira.

 

Hey Muhib, thing is, there was serious beef about shoulder buttons last time. Dan was using them and caned pretty much most of us.

Thing is, it makes TEs, TRs etc far eaiser than on a stick and takes away any human element of mistake in pressing the buttons simultaneously etc. I'll wait to hear from what any others think.

 

Hi Ryan, yeah as Ade said, if you're looking for a place to stay on Friday night then I can put you up. I'm already putting up Jeffahn and Ade for the night (I think) and possibley another player called Nakura but if you don't mind sleeping on the floor in a sleeping bag or maybe not even going to sleep at all, then you're more than welcome to stay at mine on the friday.

If not I have a feeling there won't be much cheap accomodation nearby for just the one night, though I'm not sure.

 

I have no beef with shoulder buttons. I DO have a beef with multiple command buttons. It's cheating, plain and simple. There's no way around it.

As for Maz being better with this system, tell him to relearn. I changed my config in 2 days for the first manchester meet, the tournament is over a month away. Plenty of time.

Yeah I should point out the thing we're (nearly all of us) is against is shoulder buttons with +, + etc...commands on them. If you use shoulder buttons with just , , then there's no problem.

Like Andy said, there's still a whole month to go before we play. Try and get maz to use just P, K, G

 

There's a travelodge near UMIST (20 mins walk or so). I think. Depends whether you are made of money or not /versus/images/graemlins/smile.gif

 

i use vanessa btw. um i know its a bit late, but if this is gonna be some 2day thing is it possible if i could stay over too? i wont need sleeping. just a roof, cuz i know id be in for some late nite VF.....

 

Well, the tourney is taking place only on the saturday, the 25th sept.

If you want to come up on the friday, I could stick my head out on the block and say I could put you up for a night too if you like.

I should be free all day friday and I think Ade said he was too so we could meet you sometime on the friday if you were to come up.
