UK Players: UMSD version2.0 Tournament

I actually have a feeling Mike will want us to go back to his gaff after the tournie for extended play, although that's not definate, Mike can you confirm? We can all chip in for a taxi, it'll save a lot of messing about in the long run compared to getting buses.

Nearer the time, I'll post directions from Manchester City Centre to get to Chris's (and the relevant buses!).

 

Woops, should have pointed out by now to players (in case they weren't sure) but this is a strictly one character tourney as with last time.

Ade, with regards Mike, don't forget the majority of players will be travelling to Manchester only for the day. Even Shaun and Andy, closest travellers need to set off back around 5/6 ish for Leeds.

I know I for one wouldn't be able to make it back to Mikes. He can stay at the venue for a bit after others have gone if he wants but I'll be well too shagged out from all the organisation to go travelling around Manchester, sorry.

I'll post back a list of rules soon.

 

Btw i can bring my modded ps2 down if that will help or do you have enough already ?

 

Chris: Regarding setups, how many will their be? Cos we need to know if Will's coming first of all? How many TV's are we gonna have?

 

I'd just like to say that I'm genuinely disappointed I can't make it. I have never entered any tournaments, so it would have been a good chance to show everyone just how terrible I am. Though the troc crowd already know I feel it's my mission to spread the word, and the word is "failed throw escapes" and "bare teefed energy bars".

 

I actually think we'll be having another 'mini' tournie before Christmas, so you may still be able to meet us before the year is out.

I definitely want to stay in Manchester for at least the Friday and Saturday night. If worst comes to worst then I'll just have to book a hostel or something, but I want to avoid wasting time travelling up and down, so I'll need to know the exact location of the tourney. The sooner you can confirm anything the better.

Btw, what's the cheapest/most scenic means of transport from London to Manchester? I would prefer to go by train 'coz buses tend to make me ill.

As it is we have one guaranteed set up (mine) of pAL ps2 and tv (running at 60hz colour no less).

Now, if Nakura is able to make the meet, he did offer the service of his tv (and ps2?) as well. That's another set up (60hz colour).

I'm almots certain if Will (Lead) can make it he'd bring his Jap TV and Jap ps2 as well. Problem is, noones heard from him for a while. I texted him today but not had a rep...you guys are not going to fucking BELIEVE this but I juts this second got a text from Will!!!! OMFG!

Touch wood, I could probably put you up for both friday and saturday nights if required. The location of the tourney is actually the place I live at...

It used to be an official hall of uni residence but was too expensive to up keep and so was sold off. Bought by some business men it's now rented out to students and young professionals requiring cheap accomodation.

The room the tourney will be in, used to be the communal tv room in this place. In a room opposite is a (ruined) pool table, table football game and drinks machine (used to be the dinning room).

There also used to be a bar there but no longer.

Actually, what the hell, if you need friday night and saturday night then staying at mine is no probs. It's a place calle Langdale Hall, opposite a large Mosque in Manchester 14 (just round the corner from curry mile, Rusholme and around a 10/15 min taxi drive from Picadilly st or a 5/10 min taxi ride from Oxford road st).

As for transport from down south I've no real idea I'm afraid. Train is probably best.

atm I'm messing around with groups and how to run things. I may take another head count near the end of the week.

When the groups are sorted, I'll post them here so everyone can see what's going on long before they come to Manchester.

 

again Chris, just like to say that if you need help with anything, just ask.
as for the group thing, i can't help thinking that whoever are placed in Ryan Harts group are going to lose.
maybe we should make Ryan wear a blind-fold and make him stand on his head? (although then the losses would be much more embarrassing when he still wipes the floor with us......)
seriously, i can't wait to fight (and lose to) Ryan. i am hoping that he doesn't find it too easy, coz then it might get boring for him.

i have a small favour to ask of you Chris, and that would be,
when you are setting up the groups and tournament placings, CAN YOU PUT ME AS FAR AWAY FROM RYAN AS POSSIBLE!?!?

 

Funnily enough I've juts been drawing up some group ideas tonight. I know there'll be few who want to go in Ryans group...which is why I've put myself in his group. Here's a rough idea as to what is going on.

I think we'd probably only have time to have every person in a group players everyone else in a group once (ie 3 guaranteed matches). Then we have a straight knockout phase...

These will give us the top 4. Overall winner from top group plays overall winner from bottom group as do loses to decide 3/4 places.

The way I see the groups atm, it's all shaping up as fairly even as is possible.

Oh and for the group stage I was thinking you get one point for 1 "win". Now, by this I mean if Mye beats me 3-1 he gets 3 pts and I get 1pt . If I beat him 3-0 I get 3 pts he gets none etc.

Hopefully that method would give us a clear 1 and 2 in each group and it would (hopefully) be unlikely for more than one player to end in second place.

Yeah these groups may swell or decrease in number (between 3 and 5 I reckon) depending on who can definately make it.

I'm sure everyone will have some close, enjoyable games in the opening group stage.

Chris: It's looking good man, but if any problems arise with people not liking the groups or not agreeing with the seedings then I'm sure nobody (not me at least) will mind if you just totally randomise them.

I spent around an hour the other night sorting them out. I can't see too many people being upset with them though tbh. Here's what my thoughts were on the groups:

Well, all eyes are on one guy to take top spot. The other three players, myself, Mye and Maximum have never played so I see this as a 3 way competition for the second group place so I think this group hs potential to be exciting.

<font color="white">GROUP B</font>

Ade and Will generally tooth and nail it. Past matches between the two tend to be even and close. Steev is there as a wildcard, presenting the always real chance of a few sneeky wins and Jide is a strong Lion player making this group exciting too.

<font color="white">GROUP C</font>

Arguably this one is the strongest group. Andy has a proven track record against most northern players at VFDC but pinking came 4th at the UMSD tourney back in feb. Neither have played Ironmike and so competition for the top 3 places will be tough. Plus there's Darius' Lion too, always capable of sneaking wins.

<font color="white">GROUP D</font>

Yeah, two big hitters here, Shaun and Dan. A chance to settle scores in the group stage. Maz's Lion will be new to Shaun as will whoever RandomHajile uses and he'll be new to everyone. This group could go lot's of different ways.

I'm waiting to hear back from Shaun about all this. I'm pretty sure everyone will be ok with it as it is, though if there is any trouble, we could always randomise the draw.

i may be able to get Jericho_mpm (4hyperstreetfighter) to come down, but he will only come down if there is a serious crewteam for hyper.

As for SF, it'll only be a few games in the afternoon I reckon, the main focus is VF 4 Evo.

As for travel I really don't know.

If you want to come up on the friday, I could put you up for a night I reckon if you need it, save you staying elsewhere. You'd probably be on the floor btw, though my cooking would make up for that. I actually live in the place we're using for the venue so you could even help me set up in the morning!
