btw, don't know if Andy told you, but he is in London right now, playing some people, (I think he said he was going to get a chance to lose to Ryan Hart, but i don't know if that was for certain). i hope he does well at representing us, although his play is a little down, he seems to have found a way to solve his problem of spamming out attacks too much; pick Kage. this guy can spam out loads of moves and the are all safe! i think Ade mentioned this before (safe city i think you said, Ade.), and he also mentioned how most of his moves are damned half-circular, just to make things more difficult for everyone else.
btw, i am now starting to watch stance with jacky (we got an RGB so the game works in colour), but at the moment, i keep using the open stance combos, coz i still can react in time. does anyone have any stance watching tips?

 

Oh is kingsouther going on the early saturday train? I thought he told me he wanted to stay over night here on the friday...

Good to hear you're playing in colour now too. As for watching stance, just remember that all fights start in closed except vs Brad when you start in open (so with Jacky you can do the classic + > > straight away).

The most important phase to look at stance is generally before you start a combo. Just a quick look at feet positioning should be enough for you to say "open" or "closed" in your head and then you can get your fingers around what type of combos will connect.

 

yeah, but by the time i have say 'open' in my head, some twat using Akira player has abused the SDE and changed stance, and most probably landed a counter hit!
so much difficulty. i might start with something easier that stance watching, but there really isn't anything else to watch. i was thinking weather or not to just use combos that work on both stances, but they are like 10 points less damage. maybe Jacky isn't such a good choice for me, as ALL of his combos are stance specific. is there any characters who don't require alot of stance watching (that aren't shit like Jeffry)? i was going to pick up sarah, but i think she is stacne specific too, (plus she is lightweight which i hate).

So it sounds as though he'll be driving up ealy on the sat. Maybe he could give a few guys a ride? Dunno, anyone interested would have to get in touch with him.

Oh and anyone getting here soley on the saturday has no problems to worry about with regards timing. Well, that is presuming they make it to Manchester by 2 pm at least say /versus/images/graemlins/grin.gif.

 

Chris, me and andy wil probably roll in pretty early, get some warm-ups going and what not. plus, you should probably go over the rules and shit with people, and me and you could go over how you want things to run.....

 

Yeah I was just going over this myself this morning.

Firstly, would you be meeting the bradford lads again like last time (pinking and maz) and then get to mine?

Secondly, kingsouther, Ade, Ryan, steev (maybe) and jeffahn will be round at mine on the friday sometime. Will'll be coming early next morn on the sat I presume as will Ironmike with a tv and the rest of the london crew and an other travellers.

People are welcome to come as early as they can make it on the sat in order to get some games in and warmed up. I'm thinking of starting the ball rolling by 12/12.30 as the group stages will take quite a while to run and sort out.

Oh yeah, everyone will have to "formally" register themselves and their character when they show up, just so we have a head count of who is there and who they'll be using.

Hopefully around half 3/4 the tourney will be finished and then I'll start the mini SF one. The other set ups will be left with VF on for others to play some casual matches. Shaun, you can be in charge of the remaining VF set ups whilst I'm busy and make sure no one is over staying their place on the machines.

I'll have a print out with the rules and that on so everyone can see for themselves what is and isn't allowed.

 

Back on the issue of pads:

I will be using a stick for this tourney, but I do not have a problem with anyone using simple button-only assignments, P+G, K+G, ALL, etc. (no directions). I don't have problem with this 'coz i played VF1&2 for years on Saturn pad, and on stick in the arcade. If someone had a magic-box (or similar) and a Saturn pad (preferable American) then I would love to give it go on Evo, but this would have to be with button assignments 'coz it is otherwise impossible to play properly if you use your thumb for G (as opposed to the 'paino-style' -which I can't comment on).

I don't really see how button assignments can give you that much of an advantage, please explain? The way I see it now:

Multiple throw escapes -I don't understand how the advantage is gained. VF2 didn't have MTE's and I don't really do them that much in VF3 & 4.

Tech-rolling -I think that most tech-roll errors on stick more likely a result of mis-timing than failing to push all 3 buttons, so I don't hink there's much advantage to be gained here either.

All that said, the last person I played againest who used only pad was Sham; he was good then, but he's better since he switched to stick.

Can't wait for the tourney and meeting all the Northeners!!!

in a guaranteed situation, you input one direction --- whoops! i eat 70 dmg, next time ---- whoops, i eat 70 dmg, next one, ------- whoops, i eat 100 dmg, round over.

Jun and Kola (his girl) are coming too and im sure they want to explore Manchester too, that’s why it makes sense for us to go in the daytime + I’ve never been to Manchester too so........ get me

so our party will consist of:

and Me................but we all need to agree on a time which we'll do when we book the train tickets

It was optimus who said you were coming up on the saturday early morning train, not me, so I'm not sure where that assumption came from.

As for Jun...does he want to take part and play or what? I'd appreciate knowing who wants to play now as opposed to have a load of random peeps show up on the day and expect to be able to fit into a group somewhere or something. What does Kola plan to do during the day as well...does she play or something? (excuse my ignorance).

I'd suggest Manchester Central, I think, as Didsbury is quite away from my place...though I've no idea where the Central one is.

I'm already putting up a few at my place and I would offer it for you to but there's no way I'd be able to accomodate all 8 or so so I'm afraid you'll have to look into accomodation a bit more maybe.

If you can find out where the central one is, let me know and I'll be able to then tell you how close that'd be to my place (I'm pretty sure it'll be closer than the Didsbury one though).
