Practice and patience don't help you deal with pressure like tournament play does. And playing under pressure is what separates the person that takes 1st-3rd from the person taking 33rd.

Practice + patience + tournament experience + gathering experience is the equation I follow to improve myself. The biggest hurdle is time.

I value gathering experience more because it is when I get to play the best players in the country as much as possible and I get to experiment and learn more this way. Right now, tournament experience doesn't help improve my game as much anymore.

As far as Lei players I've played during gatherings and tournaments (offline mainly). I would say CIDKID, PhoenixDeath, Ken_I, and Akira_Zero are the best ones I've played. I won't say whose the best, they have to sort it out themselves in the next big gathering.

    Yeah Worst,
I played ya after a week off myself, and definitely did not show you anything worth belonging on that list. As anybody, i have my good days and my bad days, at the moment my bad days out number the good days, and I'm putting it down for a bit. I think my name belongs to be thrown into the mix, but not in the best 10, I get an honerable mention. I've beaten everyone on that list i've played, even if my juno synth record is like 2-15 in the one session we had /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif haven't played risen or cidkid yet.
o'well, when i get back to it, i'm gonna hit it hard and try to push thru that master wall into defender, then i'll retire for good, lol.

So this list is the top ten out of those U.S. players that are on XBox Live.. ?

If that's true, is the assumption that all serious VF players in the U.S. show up on XBox live?

Maybe some serious VF console players will only play on PS3....

The person taking 33rd need to go back to the lab and work on his shit.If you insist A video game is a video game period regardless. You still have to know your shit and trust yourself. Whats the sense of playing in tournaments and getting your ass taxed over and over cause your not practicing and trusting yourself? What you think KowTow that your gonna beat CidKid on the regular just cause you keep attenting tournaments that he might be around in? Who's to say that the number 1 player in the world can't have a bad game and get owned in a tourney?

Virtua Fighter 5 is a game of rhythms to me. If you find your groove early and you get hot there's no denying what you can do to your opponents. Be careful though in one millisecond everything can change and its all about how good can you weather the storm and regroup. Thats was Seperated CidKid from the rest that day.
Any good vf players that was at that tourny that participated had to leave with a bad taste in their mouth vowing to never let that happen again. Trust me they went back to the Crib and stared at the drawing board saying "Damn what the fuck i did'nt do?"

I feel the same way. Studying and practicing goes a long way to achieving greatness. Sometimes you have to acess the damage and fall back.

You're putting words in my mouth. I'm not dismissing practice and patience, I'm just saying that tournament experience is what separates good, technically solid players from great, technically solid winners.

When I first picked up the game, and I as COMPLETE trash. I met up with Flash and he took me under his wing. There happened to be a tournament in Richmond one weekend that New York even came down for. I played with them the night before, and I knew I was no where near their level.

Flash told me that regardless of how I think I will do I should go to the tournament. His exact words were that tournament matches/casuals are much different than regular casuals. He says because there is no room for error everyone is more cautious and attentive. There is a level of focus that top tournament players possess. I promise you that playing all the casuals in the world didn't teach them that. It was all of their experience that made them the players they are today. You can rape all the people online and offline you want, but tournament jitters will degrade any and everyones playstyle with out proper mental preparation/tournament experience.

I think thats what Kowtow meant.

I Felt like that in basketball tourneys during finals too but that still did'nt mean i could'nt have fun right? In tournament play im not tentative for no one. Thats when you miss your chance.
