Well this thread was never about winning an argument.

Also, i have to disagree with frenchakira's point on how tiers only exist on paper. In tekken and sf third strike the tiers are very, very clear. There is no jin of vf4.

It's the way the game is designed it's what sometimes makes tiers seem harder to pick out. I think it's clever the way am2 have designed the vf system. I still think there is tiers but it's not Jin like. But i doubt any other game is either /versus/images/graemlins/frown.gif

in 3s? the tiers aren't that clear. sure, yun chun and ken are the best but apart from that it's pretty much your own interpretation.

There are tiers but tbh it's more down to how a person uses a character but some characters do seem to have more advantages then most . Those characters usually tend to be akira, kage and jacky.

Imagine chibita cloned himself and played a first to 50 against himself with say akira. you reckon the result would be even? Tiers do exist. I think we can agree Akira, Lau, Jacky, Kage = top.

well i don't think chibita plays lion because he thinks he's so good he needs a handicap :p.

Mister C was an Akira player in VF2. I think Chibita started playing Lion in VF3 tb, because he could play so many RO games with him. In VF4/ Evo/ FT he continues playing Lion because... who knows? He can ream almost everyone anyway so why bother? I think he played Vane in VF4 and rocked anyway. That cloning matter just doesn´t feel natural. It doesn´t make things any clearer.

All in all, if there are any tiers, they are pretty much situational, showing only different advantages in certain situations. Kage is good with guessing games because his [G]+[K] and [3][P], for example. A good Pai like Tsuchikumo can still find a way to overcome this. Mid reversal throw escape anyone?

I think people are just putting up tiers to make up white excuses for some matchups being harder than others. By that way it is easy to diss characters one does not like or play and it also is a good excuse for losing to other player. "He had a better character" is just a tactic in my eyes. A tactic that has no value whatsoever outside the ring. Oh, I didn´t see any Akiras or Kages in top 9 in Evo 2k4. If they were so good characters, why were they not played? Simple. "The honour is in the man, not in the sword" -Donnie Yen- (Highlander The Endgame)

One can always win even with the hardest possible matchup in VF, there is no such thing as unfair match. Chun Li can throw repeatedly in SF II the World Warrior with middle punch to win, but first she needs to hit with it. Sweeping works against it. Tiers are just personal estimations that have certain proven potential to make one character win a match against the other one. They do not make the game downright unfair, just more interesting to watch. In the end, most players out there are not Chibitas in terms of pure skill level and people tend to fool around especially when they are winning. VF is a game full of surprises.

Are you trying to say there are no tiers?
The clone point does make it easier to understand as I was just trying to show that people of equal ability (I picked Chibita at random could have been anyone) if they were to train up and start on day 1 with a certain character would that person have an equal percentage against themselves, i.e what I think your saying is that tiers don't exsist to the extent that they affect match outcomes, so the clones would have close to 50% win ratio against each other if say one used Goh and the other Akira. I think we all know the case on that one.

As for Street Fighter World Warrior now that game IS downright unfair but fun!!! /versus/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Unless you have VF featuring 16 Akiras, and 16 Akiras only (and none of this B1 B2 moves in FT), you have tiers.

If I drive a Mustang GT, and you drive a Hyundai Excel, and we drag race, guess who is tiered higher. Now if I am a really bad driver, and you are 2Fast2Furious, then you may win. Just like Chibita's Lion would beat me, even if I use Akira. So yes, there is certainly a factor in the driver/player, but objective tiers outside driver/player skills, certainly exist.

    1. Itabashi Zangief (Shun Di, Japan)
    2. Shou (Sarah, St. Louis, USA) - Top Tier
    3. Kurita (Vanessa, Japan)
    4. Ryan (Kage, UK) - Top Tier
    5. Raoh (Lau, Japan) - Top Tier
    5. Adam (Jeffry, NYC, USA)
    7. Cappo (Pai, Florida, USA) - Top Tier
    7. Maddy (Akira, Ohio, USA) - Top Tier

Keep in mind that Itabashi and Kurita are in a different class just like last year with Ohsu and Chibita.

well kimble, if you can bring the entire tournament player list, then i think it would be quite obvious that there are more akiras/kages playing than any other character, but the fact that there is only one of each in the top shows that it's player, not character.
