The retirement... err... stupid thread.

Tony, out of curiosity, how much VF were you playing anyway? This is something I have been wondering for a while, how much time is "normal" to play VF a day.

I play maybe one hour every 2-3 days, then a bit more over the weekend. More or less 2-3 hours, but maybe more.

I think I am kind of casual compared to some people on this forum...but then again, I have no friends to play with, so this is all time spent on my own ignoring my wife LOL. So not so good for my social skills...

My whole thing on it is that you need a balance, if you feel you're doing anything more than you feel you should(even if it doesn't seem like alot, to someone else) then you got to stop and rebalance things.

This isn't a career, and I got to give you alot of respect for being able to play up to the level you do/did, with the limited amount of time you dedicated to the game.

Once you give it a long break, you'll probably come back and be playing it the way I do whenever I play now, lol.

Yeah man, some of it goes really far. I was so competitive that I was getting upset at Happy Friend here, one time, but I got much respect for him.

 

I've thought about retiring too since when I usually do something I want to be the best in it.

Unfortunately I have a ton hobbies, VF included, and time is very limited and fleeting. I have now accepted that I can't be as good as I want to be in VF with the limited time that I give it. But I try to maximize what I learn and enjoy from the game when I do get to play.

I don't prioritize it anymore, at first it was very hard because I would lose and think to myself that I know what to do to improve. I just don't have the time to do that and it's okay.

I play theory fighter a lot now during my commute to work and back. When something arises that I'm not sure of, I jot it down and make sure to investigate it the next chance I get to play.

Anyways, like everyone's saying, you don't have to outright retire and you don't have to be as dedicated to it as you used to.

Yeah losing to you over and over and over and over and over and over and over again was the best time I had playing VF.

I really appreciate the feedback guys. Coz, Matt, Slide and Oioron. I know what yall saying and where yall coming from but VF is the only game I've ever played that I can't just play for fun. Once I went from casual to harcore and I started striving to be the best, I can't go back to just playing casually. It doesn't feel right anymore.

L_A, what you wrote made me smile man cuz, I'm pretty sure I told you this before, I wish to be like you someday. Owning a home, married to an Asian woman, learning Japanese and taking trips to Japan at least once a year. Awesome!
