I know it was you man. I remember you told me after one of the matches. I didn't know it was a gimmick, I got pissed because you sent me some weird offensive message. But its cool. Im just messing with you on the "turtly style" stuff. But I hope we get to play again in the future. Peace.

Ok, im out. I just can't take it anymore.

First off, I spend way too much of my free time playing this game. There's much better things I could be doing with what limited time I have. So rather than playing a game which I do not enjoy at all anymore, I'll find something else to do. VF is going on the shelf. Maybe if another game comes out for consoles I'll pick it up again, but I'm done with VF5.

The second point I'd like to say is something that will get me boo'ed and flamed. But I really don't care anymore.

The biggest reason I don't enjoy VF anymore is the way its played. For about the last year, theres only been two types of players that I've run across online. There are exceptions to this rule, of course, and I'm not pointing fingers. The first type of player is the n00b. You know the type, can't block, can't evade, cant recover, ect. They might as well be a training dummy. Now honestly, I don't mind playing against n00bs, as long as they show the capacity to learn. In fact, playing against a player who is trying to get better is one of my favorite types of opponents. Its the ones that take a half life juggle for doing a stupid low sweep, and they do it at least twice a round for 10 matches straight. C'mon. You gotta be seeing a pattern here, right? I realize that not everyone wants to be hardcore at VF, but seriously, go find someone closer to your level or hit up dojo to at least learn the basics. Thats all I'm asking for, the basics and the ability to adapt. If you don't have those two things, its a very one-sided match. If you're not capable of those two things, then fighting games might not be for you.

The second type of player is the pro, but without any soul to their game. They are perfectly content with spamming the same move 10 or 15 times in a row if it connected once. Playing against this type of player, I just feel drained, like I'm not playing a game so much as doing math homework. These types of players also tend to be extremely cocky, and will try doing all kinds of stupid things throughout the match. Its just not fun for me anymore. I'm not trying to "outthink" my opponent, I'm just letting them go through their motions till I can do damage. Doing a fast, safe, mid poke over and over is not a mixup. Its masturbation.

And now I'm starting to see a rather disturbing trend. There's now many more players who will win one or two matches, quit, and send an insulting/disrespectful message. I hate to say it guys, but if you're wondering why the VF scene in your neck of the woods is dwindling, its because of this bullshit. It's not enough for some of these players that we can't get any new blood into the VF scene, but they want to encourage current players to leave? Well, I guess its a self-fulfilling prophecy then.

Maybe people have forgotten that VF is a game, at its heart. A competition between sportsmen. Now it just feels like a bunch of grumpy old men who don't want anyone else in their club. And there's huge amounts of judgment for "how" people should play. I complain about certain styles a lot, but always to myself. I rarely ever send messages or talk on the forums about how someone is doing something "wrong". Granted, there are those players who are simply abusing a flaw in the system, and thats shitty, but I just leave them to their ways. Theres no way I could change their mind anyhow, they're in the game for a different reason than I am. They want to win at all cost (mostly at the cost of fun and skill), and I want a competition, trying to outthink my opponent. Its a fundamental separation, and there's nothing anyone can do about it.

Well, there's my opinion. Feel free to disagree with it. It was good for a while, and there are quite a few players on here who I would love to play again, but its just not worth it anymore. Hopefully Sega will release a new VF and the community can continue to mature. Until then, peace out.

no offense, but this is how i felt you played whenever i played you. I kinda thought u did this, and then substituted defensive elbow and dmpk and 2p in place of real defense. But then again, it was a small sample size (like 6-8 sets over a year or 2). I used the bold because i wouldn't say it all applies to our games. I never felt like you were cocky or tried to insult me.

Social, you're right. I became that type of player recently, but now I'm starting to realize how wrong that was for me. Honestly, I became that type of player because I thought that would bring me more respect. I've just noticed (incorrectly, probably) that its those types of players who get the most respect.

I came up from nothing in vf. But now I have a few trophies under my belt and I can give any player a challenge, yet I still don't feel very respected. Maybe its because I've never been able to afford going out of state to play vf, or maybe I'm not nearly as good as I think I am and don't really deserve the respect. Or maybe I'm respected but not feeling it. Either way, its this that caused me to become that type of player. But now I don't respect myself because of how I play.

So let me apologize to anyone who I treated disrespectfully. I'm not above my own critism.

People dont play the game much anymore because its old and was never that popular to begin with. But you will always catch someone on player match if youre in need of a game.

I really don't want to hear this from someone who said they never wanted to play me again just because I used DMPK a few time. Eileen's DMPK isn't even that good. Block FTW?

Doing things just because you think it's what it takes to get respect is really the wrong approach. Do the right thing, and people will respect you on their own.

There will always be people that play to win. They'll exploit your weaknesses, pick you apart, and do away with you. Now, personally, I've never had the people who can beat me trash talk me. That's new.

Now my two bits is, when I do play you, you've always seemed to have what they call an abare style of play. It CREATES the environment of jabs and elbows to be honest. Vanessa players do this alot. Nothing but a constant flurry of strings without a whole lot of openings from what I can tell.

So I use my fastest moves to hopefully stop you from attacking eventually.

Well I hadn't really intended for this post to become a way for people to line up and judge my style, but thats fine.

Xzyx987x, I have a lot of regret about what I said to you. Too often do personal issues in my real life bleed over to VF online. I was really frustrated that day in particular, and your use of semi safe moves into DMPK (which is pretty good actually, avoids lows? C'mon) was really just something for me to take it out on. You're a better player than I, and you should win for it. I don't think I said I was mad about your use of DMPK, I was more frustrated with your poke/throw strat. Again, it was a good strat that took advantage of a weakness of mine (and the internets) and you played it well.
Thats the way I wish it was, but it simply isn't. Respect is given in fighting game communities based on who you know. The only way to get it beyond that is to actually win big tournies. I don't think I want to really dive too much into this issue though, because I can see it being a slippery slope that ends with everyone's name being dragged through the mud. There's too much potential for misunderstandings.

Worstplayer, I agree with your logic of using your fastest moves. In fact, I've never disagreed with that logic. I'm not here to lay judgment on anyone's playstyle. I do understand that I am abare, and I've never denied that. But from my point of view, abare is just another type of defense. Whats the purpose of attacking from disadvantage? To interrupt the next move your opponent will try. It is the riskiest defensive option, but it also has a higher reward. Its not like I'll just keep being abare if someone is stopping me over and over. And I do block on minus quite a lot. I just like to use a defensive mixup of block, or evade, or fuzzy, or abare. I simply don't see that strat as being wrong, but risky.

The best attitude right there. I'm kind of curious white worm, who are you trying to get respect from? There's hardly any people online nowadays lol! What matters is if they play you.

On abare play I could care less myself. It works better if your opponent has little knowledge of your frames and DMPK helps lol! What happens versus those win at all costs players though is they'll break your fundamentals down with mid safe moves and jabs which you have to read and evade etc.

I tell you I have little to no respect around here, but I get my games in. Whoop some ass, let them blame it on lag, and walk away with a smile on my face.

Hey guys. Well, I guess it's time to announce that I'm going into semi-retirement. I really haven't had the motivation to play VF at all lately. The online scene is all but dead, and despite some interest, no one has felt like getting anything together locally. Also, lately I've been either too busy or too strung out from being busy to feel like playing much. My Xbox has pretty much just been sitting under my TV collecting dust. Will I ever be back? Probably, but not unless Sega gives us something new to play. Until then, I'm not going to be on this site or VF5 online much, if at all. If anyone wants to get in touch with me, or maybe even wants to play some matches, send me a message on Xbox Live. I can't promise I'll respond in a timely manner, but I'll definitely see it sooner or later.
