lei fei is a very unqiue character. my lei fei training is dis changing stances to avoid attacks, learn ur sweeping attacks to deal with evading. learn the diferent attack moves from each stance that have special properties. practice ur sabakis and combo from head collapse in arrow punch from hai shiki to attack opponent from recovery and combo again if opponent doesnt stagger recovery fast enough. practice stance changing cancel into 0 frame throw or continue offensive.and lastly practice basic combo starters staggers, basic fundamentals like evading, guarding, throw escapes and recovery /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif

Well grass hopper if you consistently interrupt vanessa, akira, shun, etc they all become "quite harmless" /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/cool.gif

Any character can beat any other character if the quality of the players involved is high enough.

Players that stick with Lei Fei do so because they like the style
of his wins and that's usually the case with the selection of any character. VF is balanced. Once you get two 'high caliber' opponents that are more or less equally
matched then its just a game of 'chance and mistakes'

In the end the best players fight with characters that reflect their own personal styles.

I am Lei Fei stylist and always will be. I would rather loose
using his style than win using a style that's not compatible with my fighting philosophy.

If you train enough with the lei fei. Get the basics down (OM,DM, sabaki, inhashi, fuzzy guard, evades, throw escapes etc) If you achieve Kung Fu of the stick or pad(master whichever one you use). If you keep you own physical dexterity trained (daily) hands, forearms, eye-hand coordination. Then even if you use Lei Fei you can hold your own.

I've lost my share of matches using Lei Fei, but on the days
when I really come to play, even good (very good) players will have to rely on chance and mistakes and on those days mistakes are few and far between /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/g.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/p.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/k.gif

The timing on evading some moves is different too, depending on when it's inputted out of stance. A Lei player that makes smart use of delayed attacks to catch failed evades is difficult to step around at will.

Well said if you have a style that works then stick with it. A lei fei with skill and a unique style is well worth the time to play against. I will take your words to heart.

So right....

Don't know if you've ever played EVO but for the underground tournaments in single player mode they had a mirror match. So if you wen't in there with Lei Fei that all you would face during the tournament. It was interesting to watch some of the timing variations of similar attacks. I was lucky enough to spar in one mirror match other Lei Fei players and it was it trip to see
the same or similar move sets done with different delays and timing, really a trip..

Someone posted earlier that Lei Fei is only good for mashing up until 1st Dan. Agreed. If you lose to a masher it's more of a reflection upon your game than theirs in my opinion.

Ive never lost (an entire match anyway) to a mashing Lei fei, or any other mashing character for that matter.

If I were to complain about any character it would be Lion for sure! But of course, I dont- because I realize it's my fault if someone beats me with him, certainly not the person who beats me.

If someone is bad enough to mash mash mash, then just go duck punch crazy on them and you'll be good. It is a vulnerable defense but if your oppisition isn't very good it'll work. Interrupts all there punching combos. even better, if you have a rising stomach crumple, or some really quick executing stomach crumple, duck punch to break thier flow, do ur stomach crumple and they'll mash right into the counter hit.

Yeah I know but doing stuff like that is a good way to infuriate your mashing opponent and earn you a dirty message on XBOX live LOL!

i didn't meant 2 spam it, as that is effective and lame both!!!!, I just meant that most of his combos are disruptable by low punch if the lei user doensn't know how to mix up what he is doing.
If you can beat a lei fei user by interrupting all his combos with duck punch, than do it, b/c he is mindlessly spamming HIS combos on you, and is therefore the dirty player.

You may need more than a mixing it up and low punch:
